Now that we're over six months into this thing, I think that we can all agree that the "new normal" fucking sucks! Get the damn vaccine done already, so we can go back to the "old" normal!

I dunno, I'm trying to insulate myself and my family as much as possible. I'm in agreement that we need the vaccine asap, but being risk averse where I live isn't that difficult. I'm a pretty good cook and don't mind working from home in the least. Our monthly expenses have dropped 20% or more and I could live like this indefinitely.

I traveled by air for the first time since 2012 in 2019... And took five or six trips in 7 months time. I sort of miss having the option to fly somewhere, but I'm sure that will go back to normal in 18 months.

Vaccine Study Update: I am no longer having any kind of potential reactions to the possible vaccine. Last week I had some odd skin sensations, like a low level sunburn, that traveled around my neck and head. Nothing crazy but definitely odd feeling. There was no fever or even increased skin temp per the thermometer, just a slight burning sensation that lasted a few hours each day.

My office is back to 100% open mandatory butts in seats this week so we will see how that goes. So far it is mostly annoying due to having to fight over parking spots and stand in line to use the one hand held thermometer to check temps in the morning, something seems wrong about that.

Damn, what kind of white collar job do you have that demands butts in seats 100% at this point?

My employer and my wife's have basically already declared in-office isn't mandatory until atleast mid-January (with it likely to expand further depending on what we know as we get closer to that time period).

Why not both? I am assuming I have the placebo and all these reactions are just potential real infections. Life is somehow easier that way.

Construction, totally not required other than that is what the bosses want to have happen because anyone working from home must not be working enough or something. In fact I do not know of anyone anymore that is not requiring everyone back. DFW seems to have rejected the new normal and moved back to the old normal, again.

OK, OK... I'm not looking forward to going back to sitting at my shitty little cubicle at work. I do miss going to the movies, live sporting events with fans in the stands, concerts, grocery shopping outings that don't feel like a prison visit, and not having to carry around a mask all the time.

Was just watching news real quick as I was eating supper before heading to work, not looking good here in Ontario. Looks like we're in a 2nd wave. Well, mostly down south really. Most cases are in Toronto.

I hope we at least get to have Thanksgiving with family here. And Christmas. They did reduce social gatherings to 10 people but that could change in the next few weeks if cases keep going up.

Meanwhile we have a mandatory offsite work meeting with 30+ people next month, booze and lodging included.

Hopefully you indeed got the candidate vaccine and this meeting is at least a week after the 2nd dose.

You might be Omega Man-ing your way though the office in November however.

Wife said CDC was urging people to stay home for Thanksgiving holiday. Sucks because we have tickets to fly to Texas to visit my sister for a whole week...

In fiscal stimulus news the WH and House are talking again. House put up a 2.2T plan, WH moving towards a 1.5T plan. They pretty much have to get it done this week for there to be any relief this year. A lot of major employers are warning about mass layoffs in early October if there is no more aid.

They might get something done this time since from each side's perspective it only has to get them into January.

Amen. This has been The.Worst.Year.Ever as far as I'm concerned.

Not just the pandemic, and the lockdown (I'm surprised anyone still has a job, given that almost everything seems to have shut down, including services that would seem to me to be kind of vital), but a long string of personal disasters have afflicted me and everyone around me.

I used to think it would be easier to cope with problems if they were shared, if everyone was suffering equally, but it seems like the truth is everyone has their unique problems and when it happens against a backdrop of global crisis when things are tough for everyone, there's even less support than there normally is.

Has anyone flown in the past month or so? I'm curious to hear experiences if so. We're contemplating flying somewhere in November that would require negative covid tests for us take 3 days prior to arrival.

My buddy just flew from MD to SF for work and said it was fantastic. He said it was super clean, airport was empty, flight wasn't crowded due to no middle seats being sold (unless it is a family).

Aid or not - theres already a huge chunk of renters that are 4+ months behind on rent. No amount of forebearance on evictions is going to put the money in their pocket to pay all their current rent and all their prior rent.

All thats being done is delaying the inevitable until January 1st when magically the eviction courts will get tens of thousands of cases all at once.

New UI boost and more checks are part of the conversation. Will it bring everybody in the country current? Probably not. Will it make them a lot less behind? Probably.
