I already deleted their Android app. I downloaded it back when I posted about their new test weeks ago but it was glitched on Android and there was no way to sign up (text fields were locked).

Wonder if they ever fixed it.

$5 tests with 15 minute results could be a game changer for the travel industry.

Sounds like Mnuchin was sent by himself to talk with Pelosi about COVID relief. That's what you do if you want a deal.

The house is going to pass their bill tonight but apparently the caucus was told they may be kept in town for negotiations. If something's going to happen it needs to be this week otherwise nothing likely till at least the lame duck. Big layoff figures are piling up from major employers and the airlines are about to swing the axe if they don't get aid.

Language from Pelosi and Mnuchin seems different this time so maybe they'll work it out. McConnell was complaining about price but he's irrelevant to the negotiation. Hope they do for the country's sake.


Edit: Apparently the House will not vote tonight. A favorable if not definitive sign some progress is being made.

That South Park Pandemic Special was such a let-down.

So much wasted potential considering where the series had already been at the end of the season last year (China's oppression with NBA/Disney kowtowing). FWIW, the put the blame on an American in China without a peep of criticism for China's early handling of the outbreak. Nothing about the WHO. Nothing about the CDC. Nothing about guidelines changing.

Given the decent likelihood one or more of the mRNA vaccines will be deployed before the end of the year people need to start preparing themselves for the possible side effects. For some minority of people it's going to be pretty uncomfortable. This is not at all unusual since after things like a tetanus shot my arm feels like it's going to fall off and when I got the HPV vaccine it throbbed and I had very low energy for a couple days. Still more than worth it though.

I'm going to pass on the initial vaccine. The side effects don't seem to be worth it. 104 F fever and chills isn't normal. That's actually very dangerous.

There is absolutely no guarantee that subsequent vaccines won't have similar side effects for particular age groups. A small minority are likely to have effects like the above and many people will have more moderate symptoms. This is not unusual for a lot of vaccines. Having looked at the publicly reported antibody and T cell data there is very good reason to believe that the vaccines are protective and the phase 3s should bear that out.

Anybody who doesn't want their shots is extremely welcome to move out of my way. I'd certainly rather take 2 mRNA shots than the two dose from Oxford which looks much rougher on people.

Mnuchin already said $1200 payments would be a part of any new agreement, should one be reached. I suspect Trump deeply now wants his name on checks that go into voter hands before 11/3.

Of course this could all fall apart today but this is the best shot I've seen in months.

I think they were also talking of an "escalator clause" whereby if certain measurements aren't met by a certain time (e.g. unemployment isn't at a certain point) then it kicks off another stimulus check.

I'm too lazy to lookup what the measurements - but I know that is baked in to the current bill. We will see if it makes it out to the final one.

Yes, escalators could keep the initial cost of the bill under 2T for the GOP to stomach it but end up over that if conditions trigger them which would give the Dems a win.

Disney is planning to layoff about 28,000 people. Airlines in US are planning to lay off about 45,000 employees and Airlines outside the US are not doing well either. Allstate insurance is planning to layoff about 8% of its work force. Movie theater companies are bleeding red (93% of them are losing money).

So? We'll be alright. I wish the US government would quit giving loans and money to these loser airlines like American and United and let them suffer and fail if they have to. Supporting these zombie companies helps no one except the terrible management who will continue to pay themselves outsized compensation. Let these loser companies fail and let the bankruptcy courts do their work. Propping up loser airlines and other companies is not the answer.
