Wuhan just had thei first pool party with thousands in attendance. Look at all those people. They can't all not have COVID19.

Lol that's insane. Even social distancing aside that's an insane amount of people so close together, that can't be fun lol. Then again I guess it's not any different than the wave pool at Wonderland. I just go in there to cool off and come right back out.

Ran some errands this afternoon and today is the first day I've seen that looked like normal. Stores were all full. Streets were all busy.

If it weren't for the masks you could almost forget Corona happened.

Totally off topic, but we went to Wonderland a few times when I was a kid. I think that was the park where I went on my first roller coaster loop.

Not knowing much of the geography of NY, curious what are the demographics of those areas with high prevalence? Mostly latinx/black low-income populations since those demographics have been reportedly hit hardest?

Yes, lower income neighborhoods with more household crowding predominantly minority. There are a couple clear cultural standouts like Borough Park which has a large Jewish orthodox population who mostly ignored the virus.

The Upper West side is so extremely low because it's wealthy so few people to a home and a lot of them bolted for the Hamptons or Hudson Valley when stuff went south in March.

I am cared. I have not been tested. No way for me to know if I had it and just asymptomatic or just hadn't been unlucky enough yet. But the wife, who teaches at one of the area state universities, goes back to work next week. Only one of her undergrad classes is in person. Normally meets twice a week and she'll have to go in twice a week but with only 1/4 of the class each time.

I find this stupid because the incubation time is now around 7-9 days so if an infected person comes on the first class of the first week then it';; be after the first class of the second week before that person feels ill, and probably something like the third week before she'll get notified. Also, the University System of GA, run by prayer Kemp, prohibits instructors from telling students if a student, faculty member, staff or administrator she is in contact with catches it. If one is doomed, they are all doomed. That is Governor Kemp's pray-to-go-away stance.

But the wife has decided to tell this one class on the first day if they do not want to come into the classroom they do not have to since everything is already online. The in class aspect is just so the university can CHARGE in-class tuition. Nice, huh? Your prayer dollars at work in the mighty [stupid] state of GA.

In good news the vaccine candidate Pfizer-BioNTech advanced to phase 3 has less adverse effects and appears effective in the elderly

It's good to see low rates of adverse events, but it's extremely inappropriate to directly compare incidence of adverse events between trials. For one: how adverse events are collected and reported could be very different between trials.

The same applies for directly comparing efficacy across trials (albeit for slightly different underlying reasons)

My understanding is that Pfizer trailed 4 RNA candidates in phase 1/2 looking for the best immune response and lowest adverse events. I presume their methodology was the same so they could determine which one performed the best and advance it to phase 3.

Okay, I read it a little more closely. I see they were comparing it to their own candidate, which likely used an identical protocol, study sites, and whatnot. So that's probably not so bad, but my statement will still be important when the results of multiple Phase 3 trials readout.

Yea we're probably going to hear from AZ, Moderna, and Pfizer around the same time this fall so this is good to remember.

Friends and business associates in Asia say things are not looking so good over there. Cases of infection are going up in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Philippines, Vietnam, S. Korea, Japan, etc.

Rough water out there.

well i work everyday with people that have covid, not sure if i got the virus as it seems testing is pointless unless the results where the same day, by then i would have infected my family. i wear a face shield n95 and a surgical mask over that. i eat in a storage area where no one goes in so i dont have to worry about taking my mask off, seriously overweight DR has contracted it and is now negative after working with me for 4 straight days before going home . guess im Asymptomatic or haven't caught it yet. he explained it as headache for days, being really cold then the fever started.. it took 10 days for his test to come back :p everyday more and more people are positive, i have been wearing n95's for over 5 months now, why doesnt your wife just wear a GOOD mask (not cloth) and face shield? with a microphone clipped to her, people can hear me just fine talking through the mask.
