What research has been done says probably little to none. This comports with the reporting of health departments around the time the incubation period would have caused cases to show up if a lot of transmission was happening. Masks plus outside is just not at all a favorable environment for transmission.

Got my 2nd drive-thru test yesterday. Not sure if I can expect the results on a Sunday but I got them in one day before.

Arrived on-time for the first appointment but a bunch of others were there early. They had already formed a line of cars where there normally isn't one, forcing me to the end despite having the first appointment.

Note to self: Save 10 minutes by not going for the first appointment next time. They will have a small line of early-birds when they start testing for the day.

Anyway, I don't recall them needing to twist the probe in my sinuses for 10 seconds before but they said they would be this time and then, yeah, they did. Very uncomfortable. Took everything I had to suppress a sneeze with that thing in there.

Another thing that was different was they had a second person screening cars right before you pull up to the testing spot. This person was just asking basic questions. I was one space away from getting the test and had taken my mask off in anticipation but this person asked me to put it back on.

The actual tester told me to pull my mask down but leave it covering my mouth while she probed my sinuses. The last time I was thinking they would disapprove of my N95 mask since they kind of need them themselves but this time they made it seem like a requirement. I had to remind myself that there is no mandate here so I wonder what would happen if you showed up for testing without a mask.

Once again, they went uncomfortably far but they definitely didn't reach the back of my sinus cavity. If anything, they were angled UP instead, which mean the swab bottomed out early. I figure they know better than me how to administer it but everything I've seen shows them going almost straight to the very back of your sinuses.

Side note: Is there a betting pool on whether or not Trump will contract the virus despite all the pre-testing they do for the people he meets?

I haven't seen much about the science concerning masks, at least not enough to guide me in choosing any. Some sites explain how to DIY. You look around on TV, etc. I'm sure around, you see recently a lot of "those" light blue pleated masks that look pretty much alike, although there are differences. I've not seen or heard anything about those. They are relatively cheap and they are everywhere. How good are they? Are they better than the DIY masks? Obviously they are inferior to N95. I see this:

There they have a video showing some characteristics trying to make the case (grahically) that they are well designed for the purpose: hug nose some, waterproof, several layers of something.

I find it odd they opened it so early, are they trying to finish this year's semester so they can start new one in September? I would have figured they would at least have started the year at the normal time if they're going to start it back up. Not that 1 month really matters at this point, but just seems odd they would have opened it right in summer.

Apparently this is a normal time of year to start in parts of the south.

Also this school has been closed now for at least the next two school days due to escalating cases. What a surprise.

Yeah. Back in the early '90s I noticed that they were opening about a week earlier for a few consecutive years and I always commiserated with my friends about it being unfair... like kids were entitled to 3 months or something! I remember several Georgia school systems experimented with year-round schools but it seems most went back and settled on a 2-month summer break.

That sucks to lose out so much of your summer then. Glad I'm done school. School was way more stressful than work and also took up more of your time (homework and studying etc) so having July-August off was definitely needed to recoup.

My state says you have to attend 180 days of class, annually. Turns out to be 6, 6 week periods. When schools started pushing for more Fall break and extended Christmas holidays, they started the Fall semester earlier.

I have mixed feelings about it. Parents have the burden of Summer care. I remember being home in the Summers and my parents paying a high school girl to watch my sister and I...other Summers, I went to work at my dad's computer shop (Commodore Repair Shop). These days, I feel for people in jobs where they don't have flexibility or options. I'm extremely blessed/fortunate....because I work in an awesome state job that allows me to work from home and my wife has a decent job that would allow her leeway too, of needed (at the expense of earnings)....but that's cool....we're ATOT 1%ers.

Antibody testing is covered under CARES if ordered by your doc AFAIK.

Results came back negative for me too. Tested Friday, got my results Sunday. Kinda weird, I actually feel like shit today. Did a ton of physical work over the weekend and I'm sore and just tired. Saw my parents yesterday, and my mom did not look good. Said she was having body aches and sinus issues. I figured it was just her allergies acting up because they just moved and their adjacent to an almond orchard. I stayed clear from her, wore my mask and used wipes and sanitizer whenever I could.

People are short sighted. Easy for me to say because I'm SIP period. I miss sports, sort of. Would have been watching the Olympics. I did watch the PGA Championship over the weekend, have been watching weekend golf on CBS since they started up.

I miss playing golf this year. Maybe I could but I haven't investigated it.

I wish Americans were more patriotic. Real patriotism now would have them behind concerted efforts to contain the pandemic, drive it down like sensible countries have all over the world. But what passes for patriotism in America these days is most often laced with bigotry, hypocrisy, selfishness.

I haven't given up hope. Obviously some areas of the USA have done much better than others. I mean look at NYC! They were on fire and there have been what? 30,000 deaths in NY? But right now they are IIRC having 1 case reported per day per 100,000 people! That's stellar. They're opening the schools!

We could do that nationwide if we had true patriotic spirit, but we don't. Too many people don't give a damn about the greater good, they are fundamentally selfish people.
