Here is another thing to consider. How many of those peiople who complained actually read the article. Most people today have the attention span of a gnat. I bet most of those people who posted didn't even read the article. They went straight to the comment section because they have to be heard! They have to get their voice heard, like it even matters.

It's because Americans have it good and live a sheltered life. They don't perceive risks the way typical people do because they don't think anything bad can happen to them.

Let's just say that some people make really stupid decisions. Because of that, social distancing won't work for a decent percentage of the population because they fear too little.

And this is why this virus is so dangerous: not only is the percentage of people infected that require hospitalization high, the amount of time they end up being in the hospital is also high, regardless of if they recover or die, which aggravates the 1st problem further.

This is the MAIN REASON this virus is NOT like the flu: when you get a strong enough flu that requires hospitalization, you generally don't need to stay in the hospital for long, which is why "normal" flu never clogges hospitals like COVID-19 does, unless ofc it's special cases, like The Spanish Flu.

While i agree we do need to take any long term damage into account, it's hard to talk about unknowns. We're only 7-8 months into this.

Our neighbors are have a HS Graduation party for their kid tomorrow (our son graduated with her also) and are having a rather large party to celebrate - friends, family, classmates.
It's really ticking me off. It seems incredibly selfish.

Karen's confront over minor things with little to no justification. Was I a "Karen" for noticing the fifth block party my neighbors have had since the lock down ended and saying something about it here? Just confiding with Internet friends about the stupidity we see does not a Karen, make.

It's not the "noticing"

It's the judgmental attitudes.

You have no idea who all will be there.
You have no idea how far apart they will be, if they will wear masks.
You have no idea how protective they will be. How much they will social distance, take temperatures at the door, etc...
You have no idea if every single person there has previously had the virus and are now no longer susceptible.

That's 100% Karen. You're judging them because YOU wouldn't do something. The reality is you have zero clue other than "They are planning to have a gathering of more than 2 people"

Considering the severity of COVID-19 and the fact that any gathering with children is putting them in harm's way (let alone the elderly), I'd say even with social distancing and masks this is a bad idea. My 2c.

It's about as dumb as trying to resume the sports season mid-pandemic.

Nope.

The Karen meme was born from "customer is always right" CS nightmares, since it started out by noticing the trend in "excuse me, I'd like to speak to your manager" haircuts. Invariably, a Karen always involves confronting someone with even the flimsiest reason for the Karen to believe she is right to do so.

That's it. It was never an insult to be levied when anyone judges anything without all the facts. That's not "a Karen."
