I'm glad they published it. I don't like science by press release.

Yes and the delay was really unacceptable. Supposedly they were worried about a leak of material info but I think it's just Moderna being Moderna from what I've read.

Some people online are already "but there are side effects". I got the HPV vaccine last year and lemme tell those people: if it works then you can deal. Felt like someone had been punching me in my upper arm for a few hours especially on the second dose.

I dont know why, but when I read that, this came to mind....

Let's talk about masks for a second - because I'm running low on the surgical masks and want to do something re-usable. This is what someone posted about surgical masks which make them superior (you tell me if you agree).

Surgical masks have a layer of electrostatically charged fibres that induce dipoles, causing polarity in the viral molecules so they are attracted to and stick to the fibres even though the layers in the masks have much bigger gaps than the diameter of the viral molecules. This is the same principle as how rubbing a balloon on your hair and sticking it to a wall works.

Now the cotton reusable masks all over Amazon are supposedly inferior because of this. But in real context of being outside and going to the local store, does it really matter as much? I can be an asymptomatic carrier, not coughing/sneezing, and wearing a cotton reusable mask - am I really spewing anything into the air?

Secondly, let's switch and talk about protecting yourself. I know these masks are meant to protect others from my droplets rather than protect me from airborne droplets, but what is the science on this as far as percentages? I'm sure people "feel safer" by wearing a mask because you're not directly breathing any spores in from open air, but is that even true? Is it the same as breathing it in directly anyway? Or is there still some level of protection?

The science of the electrostatic masks:

...and here's why cloth covering help:

That said, the virtue-signalling minutephysics video is way off about why the viruses disproportionately affects people of color. This is wildly assumptive for a science channel, even if they can cite an equally assumptive source.

The likely reason that explains most of the disproportionate effect on people of color is Vitamin D deficiency. Double-blind placebo-controlled studies ("real science") have shown that correcting Vitamin D deficiency can decrease the risk of infection by 20% and reduces the severity if infected since the vitamin regulates/modulates the immune response. What typically kills you with COVID-19 pneumonia is a "cytokine storm," which is essentially your immune system over-reacting and hurting your tissues.

Melanin (skin pigment) blocks natural production of Vitamin D requiring more sunlight exposure than someone with lighter skin. Indeed, this may explain evolutionarily why people in colder climates developed white skin: more time spent indoors, seeking warmth; more clothing when outdoors; different angle of inclination with the sun even during warmer periods; more susceptibility to infection from Vitamin D deficiency = adaptation that produces more Vitamin D with less light.

85% of African-Americans are Vitamin D deficient compared to something like 25% of the population as a whole. This looks like a HUGE factor for the disproportionate CFR.

Even if you're just breathing yes but the droplet load goes up dramatically when you sneeze, cough, talk, sing, or cause heavy exhalation from exertion. In Japan they found that nobody has been infected on mass transit because a) everybody to a man was masked and b) culturally people do not talk on trains at all. I can personally attest to B having ridden the Tokyo metro a few times. Except for train noise it is silent as the proverbial tomb.

The governor of OK, who supports masks as a personal choice, has tested positive for coronavirus and is isolating at home.

I'd like to understand the mental gymnastics it takes for folks to be so passionately against masks. If it didn't have widespread implications, it would just be hilarious.

Great news about Walmart and Sams requiring them -- tend to think the majority of their patrons fall into that no-mask-patriot-karen category.

People who just want/need to be different or "don't-tread-on-me". It's sad they have to be ignorant.

Conservatism in this country has completely morphed into this ultimate version of FYGM where people don't feel any responsibility to the duties that come with living in a society.

I have to say, as divisive of a place atot can be, it really tickles my taint to see everyone come together and agree on this.

I saw a tweet earlier today that I believe came from Faucci saying if everyone in the country wore masks for 6-8 weeks we could have this thing under control. That is 2 months at most and people won't do that shit. 2 fucking months max.

Our country is so fucking stupid. But then remember who our country also elected president.

I think that was Redfield but yeah we could probably cut reproduction substantially under 1 if there was near total adherence.

There absolutely is a level of protection considering the mask would reduce the initial viral load, giving your body an advantage as the immune system can learn to recognize the virus and start responding before the virus reaches the same numbers as someone who ingested the droplets directly.

One good analogy for masks I saw is imagine a line of forest between you and a target and you shoot an arrow through it. The arrow is slim and can fit between all the trees, but by going through the forest, you will still eventually hit a tree and the arrow won't make it on the other side, or at least, the chance of it is reduced.

Does the body really start to "pre-respond" with a small viral load?

Governor Tom Wolf (PA) has reduced the capacity of bars/restaurants/other food related businesses from 50% down to 25%.
You can't sit at the bar & drink. You have to sit at a table & can only get a drink if you're ordering food.
Indoor events and gatherings of more than 25 persons are prohibited.
Outdoor events and gatherings of more than 250 persons are prohibited.

There are other measures too.
