Absolutely, during Pandemics there should be a full crackdown on CEOs as well where the company is fined millions of dollars if safety measures are not put into place and enforced if the company serves and closely interacts with the general public. And after the first fine to the company, jail for the leadership group of that company. There needs to be a full stop of placing profits ahead of human welfare. It always pisses me off seeing people who to go work sick because they end up getting everyone sick, making everyone miserable. And since everyone is sick, then everyone has to come in because if everyone takes sick days, the whole place suffers. Now with Corona Virus, there is a much higher chance of death (x10 more lethan) compared to the flu.
yea they should give everyone sickleave with out sick time and pay everyone to stay at home with no dr note just cuz they say they are sick!.. so then no one shows up to work and everyone expects to get paid?

(one job i told them i had diarrhea and throwing up they said "come in anyway" was so funny and memorable.
everyone already calls off sick and isnt really sick so it ruins things. really depends what type of job you are in, some jobs they say oh you want to call off we will mess up your schedule forever, other jobs like mine you can call off sick anytime you want and they dont even ask if you have symptoms or anything, then the next person gets stuck working extra and it becomes a domino effect of people calling off because they are worried they will get stuck working extra hours. so until we have robots working for us as surrogates this will be a mess.

They also need to make it the law that companies still need to pay them, I think it goes both ways. But yeah going to work sick should not be the norm and they should still get paid, and also don't require doctor letters. The last thing you want is people who are sick filling out the clinic waiting in line. Laws really need to change so that people stop feeling obligated to go to work when sick.

Tim Hortons for example is forcing people to get a letter from the doctor, so most are just showing up to work instead... and these people are serving food product. Stuff like that needs to stop. If you're sick you should be able to stay home and should get paid and not be required a doctor letter.

Some companies are better than others especially those with unions, but it needs to be across the board.
Which is why I'm not eating out and cooking everything at home. I don't eat out much in the winter time anyway because of the increased risk of cold and flu. Now with the risk of coronavirus? Nope.

Many restaurants operate on very thin margin. This virus is going to put many restaurants out of business. Lot of small businesses are going to fail. Domino effect might cause the commercial real estate market to crash. If I apply what if worst case scenario, things start looking very grim.

That is why companies have employee reviews, if a person who is usually reliable and performs well calls out sick, why should the employer be distrustful? And just because the employ is not being "productive" at this time when they are sick, they have given plenty to the company of their time of employment. Also, this shows how the "lean" company model is extremely harmful to society and is only pro-company at the expensive of the employees. The lean model works only when all conditions are green, when you have pandemics like this, the company will suffer greatly. Instead of focus purely on profit, focus on a healthy work environment where the well being of both the company and their employees are the focus.

what job on earth have you seen where people dont call off because they want the day off for a party or wedding etc? i guess its hard for you to know why someone calls off unless you know them personally.

So are they going to remove all the hand dryer blowers from restrooms all over the world?
Honestly I hate those damn things. You gotta hit the button (guess you might be able to get it with your hip ...don't kick it!), they make a shit-ton of god awful noise and it takes too damn long to dry your hands. Meantime there's apt to be someone behind you waiting. Yeah, paper costs money. I try not to waste it. Shake off what you can, you can do a semi-dry on your pants, the rest with paper. Then use the paper to get out the door without picking up some virus!

Or they could just give everyone an appropriate amount of PTO (4-8 weeks) with no dedicated sick time to end this discussion once and for all. But profits are obviously maximized with the population slaving away with 2 weeks of PTO per year so actual sick time will overlap with work if one wants any personal downtime.

I'm not your typical guy in many respects. I never took a vacation while I had a job! In fact I've never had what could be called a "vacation!"

My last full time job I had accumulated vacation and when they suddenly laid me off (2 days after 9/11) they gave me IIRC a couple weeks severance but I insisted they should pay me for the 2 1/2 years worth of unused vacation time, and they did. Never no surprise parties. I've had girl friends, but never took off work to spend a day with her and told the boss some fib. Nope, never a fake sick day. I was a damn good employee too, reliable, conscientious, didn't steal stuff, on time. I had no ambition to be anybody's boss, though, and never have been, so never felt like a favorite son.

I was underappreciated. I guess I hate the corporate life. I tried to get my foot in the door in the financial industry in the late 1970's but got no job offers. One interviewer told me I'm too introspective. Probably exactly the truth. Worked temps for the next 10 years after a stint on the docks servicing yachts for brokerages for low hourly wages. Then studied computers and got what to me seemed wonderful jobs, but never really had job security.

Donovan Mitchell's father, who works for the New York Mets, tested negative.

its less likely you will get an office interview when no one is in their office.
But I'd bet telephone interviews at this time are a wonderful opportunity.

Oh if you are unemployed now you are megafarved.

Don't have a membership but we went to Costco for the cheap cafeteria food since they are supposedly going to stop doing that the day after tomorrow. I made it a point to glance at everyone's cart and it seemed absolutely everyone had a single case of bottled water. One person also had a case of alkali water, perhaps a way around the 1 per customer limit or whatever.

I also looked for TP and all I saw was a box in someone's cart that said "2-ply." Turns out they were buying stacks of tri-fold paper towels, presumably because they were totally sold out of TP. Now, there's an idea! ;) Just remember: you shouldn't flush it. Us? Well, we checked Lowe's for a bidet instead and it seems those are online-only. Oh well.

Wut? When has Jeff Bezos screwed people over on TP and Diaper pricing?
I'm talking about business as a whole.
The guy is brutally efficient and smart and for that matter so is the mastermind behind walmart.
When a lone man looking out for his family is smart and efficient and takes advantage of people all of a sudden its a mortal sin.

Lots of pics on Twitter of crammed bars for St. Pats day. Unfathomably stupid.

oh i take 8 weeks paid time off each year, i never call is sick because i like to take it in a row, i have the entire month of October off. no problem there, people just dont want to use their time for any type of sickness, i can work through a fever or what ever but if i had the corona virus i would worry more about passing it and take time off.
