Wooo rest of my travel is cancelled and we’re packing up and going home. It’s going to rain the next week straight on Oahu anyway so nothing missed. Work is concerned we’ll get stuck here if we stay

The cats already out of the bag...

Yes, we need to limit large gatherings. Colleges and schools should be closed. Events should be canceled. But, what difference will this make in a 2 week time period? IMO, it's too late. We are now seeing community spread. This 2 week closure is nothing more than our government saying "look we are doing something about this virus." And, it's only a bandaid on a very large wound. The only two options are you just let the virus run its course. We engage in everyday practices, etc. Or, you take the most drastic approach and close EVERYTHING, and test EVERYONE! You isolate the prople who are sick from everyone else.

It'll still smear out the ICU load more than if we just continue going to work/having social gatherings. Everyone's mindset should really be 'become an introvert for a month'.

Broadway theatres to close by order of the governor.

Jersey City declares 10pm curfew for bars and clubs. I guess the COVID-19 mostly comes out at night. Mostly.

It's an example of government who can't do the correct thing because of money. You either close the bars, clubs or you don't close them. What is it? COVID-19 isn't really an illness that afflicts the young anyway. And, I doubt 70 year old men and women are bar hopping. lol

Oh no doubt. I agree. I'd like to see more drastic steps taken. Like they did in Wuhan!

Young people at the bar don't stay at the bar. They go out and infect those 70-year-olds.

True .I forgot about that. lol. They should close down the bars though. Seems silly to have a curfew.

The fact is bars are filled with people. Close them down.

Agreed, but not sure they have the authority to do that... Pesky constitutional right to public assembly and all. 😉 Surprised the governor had the power to close Broadway.

One of the employees from the local electric company (bill paying division) is down with the virus. He/she is in quarantine. This is too close for comfort because the building of that bill paying division is next block from my office building, less than 50 yards. Yike.

Managed to get a refund for an Amazon order. Ordered it before this whole thing started and it probably got stuck somewhere in transit and I didn't really want it anymore at this point anyway. It can wait. 😛 It was just a cam lock thing for 2 of my servers. Want to replace the locks with just a knob so I don't need to keep using a key. I might just put small magnets and just get rid of the mechanism altogether. Just need the front panel to stay in place so small magnets might work. Like fridge magnets.

Italy is tracking an 8.6% mortality rate. This is what happens when your case load outpaces ICU beds.

That's actually not as many cases as I thought? How many ICU beds do they have in Lombardy? That death rate is pretty bad though.

Enough heat will kill anything.

Smoking trashes your lungs, been known for many decades. The inside of a smoker's lungs are black from tar (so they tell me, but I have ZERO reason to doubt it). They say stop smoking pot for the time being until this blows over.

Aren't smokers 4x as likely to die from Covid-19 as non-smokers?

Young people at the bar tend to go out and infect each other with all kinds of things.

I can't imagine they have anywhere near 10k ICU beds, that's a herculean medical response.

I know alot of us on AT are tech people, so this is of interest. Our company (health insurance company no less) got our first coronavirus phishing attempt today. Im in security so know quite a bit about these, but the attempt was VERY good. It appeared to come from Cigna, and stated "you are now covered for coronavirus. Please log in to see your new benefits) The english was perfect, no obvious "Nigerian" phrases or improper use of words. We distributed it to the entire company as an example to keep vigilant.

Surprised it took so long. Disseminating to the rest of my team.

While I agree we should try to close as much mass gathering places as possible...

What are people's thoughts economically? Anyone working those events are going to be broke. Restaurants will have no one attending and many will fall.

Even if a restaurant does try to stay open and do something like home delivery of food - they are going to have a nightmare trying to get all the supplies and food that they need in order to make the meals.

I'm just sayin' - this all sounds good on paper, but I honestly don't think we can pull it off....

It didn't.

First heard about it weeks ago. My own company sent this out last week:

Note "phishing emails ... already started to run rampant."

Wish I had said something here.

Household bailout, $4k to all households from uncle sam?

It'd cost a little less than the fed just injected into the markets.

I dont care for many of Trump's proposals, but his idea of halting payroll taxes I think is appropriate for this very reason.

OK OK I KNOW NOT POLITICAL!!!!
