Sorry, comparing the ineffectiveness of multivitamins to conspiracy theories?
Eh the thing that annoyed me was the "is terrible for you" part.

The worst that can happen is you piss out what your body doesn't use, hence your pee being a dark yellow shortly after taking a multi.

That doesn't mean they are "terrible" for you.

The world is now in full panic, so now I'm hopeful this virus can be contained by mid May to end of June. It looks like China and South Korea are on the road to recovery. It took them like 2-3 months so we should expect similar timeframe for the rest of the world. I'm feeling pretty optimistic.

Did you know that there's evidence that over-consumption of certain vitamins can actually exacerbate existing conditions, making them worse?
At the study’s conclusion, the researchers reported that the mean annual rate of visual decline––as indicated by ERG amplitude––was slower in subjects who took vitamin A supplements.10 Interestingly, subjects who ingested higher quantities of vitamin E exhibited a faster visual decline. The authors concluded that adult patients with the common form of RP, as well as those with Usher’s syndrome, should take 15,000IU of vitamin A palmitate daily, while avoiding high levels of vitamin E intake (more than 400IU per day).

The US isn't going to wrap this up in 2-3 months. We can't even get accurate numbers on how many are infected let alone how many have been tested. We haven't rolled out testing anywhere near the levels that these other countries have. We've got A LOT of ground to make up and it doesn't look like we've even begun to start trying.

Multivitamins can be dangerous. Going a bit more abstract, lots of people likely take them due to real, treatable medical conditions, but they think that multivitamins will "save" them. It's one step above all those essential oils.

You should only take certain vitamins if your blood results show deficiencies, or if your doctor explicitly tells you to take them. No real harm in taking a multivitamin every day, but you shouldn't feel good about taking them for no reason at all.

We have lot of advantages. We don't rely on mass public transit like most of the world. And people don't share food like in China, SK, and Italy. I think we'll be alright. States can setup drive through testing stations like South Korea did. Americans are strong and resourceful. There will be lot of screwups but we'll be alright.

I get it. But your average person takes a simply generic daily multi. It doesn't have anything remotely close to a dangerous amount of anything.

Suffice to say though, taking one doesn't make you feel terrible... Again, you just piss out what you don't use.

I heard on TV that U.S. movie theatre attendance is fine and has not dropped as of this past weekend. So I do a search for reputable articles about it and I can't find anything. Can anyone check out that story for truth? If it's true maybe it's a signal that things will get better overall as far as public concerns?

Found Elderberry zinc lozenges at GNC but their payment system was down. Probably for the best because they worked out to $0.53 each ($10+tax for 20 lozenges).

Also, I'm not totally sure I trust that guy about zinc. Need to read up on it/him.

A lot of the public is still tuned out so biz mostly as usual outside the tourist destinations. That is likely to change as more cases are identified and things locally start to scale back. Restaurants and entertainment will get hit hard.

I'm not. Though, to be honest, I seem to have wild mood swings about this.

I _was_ feeling optimistic, as the weather appeared to be changing, and there seems some reason to suspect warmer weather will indeed suppress the spread (yes, Trump may have have been partially right about that, deal with it!). But now, watching the death toll rise in Italy, I'm feeling pessimistic again. It still keeps coming back to the key question of whether the healthcare system will be overwhelmed. I don't see anything is going to _stop_ the virus spreading, eventually we'll probably all get it, the question is will we all get it at the same time?

Italy doesn't seem to be doing too well, and isn't that where we will all be before long?

.

China has only contained it with extreme measures that have screwed its economy and which democracies can't imitate. And it's not even clear to me that it _has_ contained it. What happens when they let all those people out of the apartment blocks they've been sealed into? You can't say they've contained it till they've started to return life to normal.

PS I don't care about vitamin supplements and zinc - that discussion makes my eyes glaze over.

Given how exceedingly infectious this seems to be, I'm very dubious about the idea of warmer weather having any noticeable effect. Pretty sure we get to just ride this one out, and hopefully enough people are intelligent about quarantine procedures to keep most people out of harm's way.

I don't think that zinc stuff is working for me. I sucked on zinc candy all day yesterday and my condition worsened last night and this morning. Feels like bad cold. My daughter was sick for couple days about week and half ago. She passed that to my wife who was sick last week. Now my wife passed it to me. I feel like death this morning. Ugh.

It's only meant to shorten the length of the infection, and it takes fairly substantial doses to maybe work. And yeah it may make it harder for you to spread the disease. You won't get overdose until maybe 150-300mg/day levels of consumption. You have any idea how much zinc was in the lozenges you had? The target amount is somewhere north of 78mg/day.

Amazon says they're working overtime to eliminate the sellers who are price-gouging popular coronavirus items. All that vigilance must be why I see Cold -Eeze sugar-free zinc lozenges 36 ct for $99 (they are 18ct for $7.79 at Walgreens.) Or Equate (Walmart's generic brand) 18 ct zinc lozenges for $74 ($2.97 at Walmart.) 🙄

Good job Amazon. Good job!

I've had good results with Zinc + Vitamin C, but I'm fairly certain I was deficient.

Not sure about that. The latest Bond movie will be out in Oct/Nov instead of next month (April) because of this virus.

Mulan is planning to do the same thing, plus theaters in mainland china are mostly closed for now so that move (based on a chinese legend) was counting to cash in a lot of money from that market.
