Are cruise companies like Carnival and Royal Caribbean allowing people to cancel their cruises and refunding their money like the airlines? I haven't heard any official statements from the cruise industry so I'm assuming no. The cruise industry should do the right thing and allow people to cancel and refund or credit people for future cruises.

yes, i know a lady who just cancelled a cruise that was a couple weeks away

well actually postponed - they won't return money, but will let her take it any time she wants in the next year or so

dude, you need a bidet + more fiber (citrucel is actually god) in your diet, because your poop shouldn't require that much wiping.

I mean, unless you also drink like a case of budlight or coors every night, because then that would make sense.
I love bidet. I should really install one in my bathroom.

My poop doesn't require much wiping. I'm very regular. I just enjoy making hand turban. I wipe several times even after I'm clean. Just habit.

My wife grew up in an environment where she was always told to conserve TP and told to use like 2 sheets total. Not going to happen.

Which is incredibly fucked up. Things like vacations often have to be planned out far in advance - even to the point where a year may not be enough for some people. It should be full refunds IMO.

Though personally, with how crowded cruises are - I would contemplate just going now (if they are still running) depending upon how empty the cruise would be.... That would be friggen awesome.

Lombardy region of Italy has already become the next Wuhan/Hubei province...103 dead in just a day.

uh, my concern in that linked video is the report of how easy it was for that evacuee from Milan, during the height of corona propagation in that region, to just hop on the plane and stroll through customs in Newark Airport without any care, or anyone waiting to isolate her, check her temperature...well, anything, really.

They just send people open seats wherever they find them, or do they at least just buy up seats on specific planes, or large blocks in a flight? That I can, but it'd be wise to make sure you have them grouped for deboarding and simply jetted off on one of those tarmac buses to quick processing area to get their temps, let them grab their bags, and get them off to shuttle-service to their doorsteps. I mean, that's the least you can do, and it's completely reasonable.

you get some quick data when they deboard, explain and process the quarantine orders/contact throughout, then cart them off with their baggage straight home. can't be impossible for basically any airport to have a quick stash area that can deboard and process groups of passengers, for specific purposes.

HEY DUMBASS THIS ISNT P&N CHECK YOUR FUCKEN FACE YOU DOUCHNOZZLE!
Wut?

Neither I, nor highland145, nor Dari were political in the posts that triggered you. It was a relevant and on-topic discussion about how this outbreak demonstrates the need to keep enough manufacturing capability for self-sufficiency as we become increasingly globalized.

No hugs for nut jobs, I simply stated there was a mountain of water at Sam's and he goes off on microplastics, BPH, and has a melt down. I keep my distance from those that have that kind of reactions.
Liar.

You said you understood why s0me0nesmind1 was stocked up on TP but did not understand why he had bottled water. I explained the obvious: some people prefer bottled water. You went off the deep end telling me to STFU, demanding apologies, and calling my post "ignorant hysteria." Here it is again:

Please document when/where anyone has contracted COVID-19 through drinking water, of apologize for your ignorant hysteria then STFU.

You obviously assumed I was talking about getting the virus from drinking water because you asked me point out when/where that has ever happened. This means you completely misinterpreted what I said. You projected your assumptions about "stupid" people buying bottled water onto me instead of questioning your assumption about them.

Are s0me0nesmind1 and others really buying bottled water because they are afraid of the tap or are you just as clueless about the "fad" of bottled water as Dagwood was in that nearly 20yo Blondie comic strip? Yes, there probably are some morons who are buying it for stupid reasons. Regardless, you and I and s0me0nesmind1 all know it's ridiculous to fear COVID-19 from the tap. So do most people buying bottles.

Now, let's re-read s0me0nesmind1's post:
Honestly I'm glad in general that I just keep an emergency stock of everything by default.

I always keep a good supply of TP.
I always keep a good supply of Paper towels
I always keep a good supply of bottled water.

Therefore, I don't have to ever over-react to this type of stuff and go to a Costco and fill 3 carts of this stuff.

"Always" means it had nothing to do with recent events (COVID-19), so your response saying you didn't understand also had nothing to do with it, which means my response that some people prefer bottled water was also not about the virus... and then you went off the rails telling me to find examples where people contracted COVID-19 from drinking water. That is one heck of a non-sequitur.

You're still doing it too. I didn't say a thing to you about BPH, BPA, or microplastics. You seem to be having a difficult time following, so maybe we should review.

Many people don't like drinking tap and don't want to get sick because they went out for a drink. Simple as that, really.

Maybe now you can tell me where I said anything about people who "contracted COVID-19 from drinking water" or implied that there was some concern with the tap (other than preference). If you can't, maybe I should demand an apology and tell you to "STFU." I'd certainly be a lot more justified in demanding that than you were.

I patiently await your apology.

I grew up making hand turban too, so I'm very familiar with it. It's my default, but I've toned it down quite a bit.

but I just lol'd because that's the first time I've heard "hand turban"

didn't even know it was a thing. 😀

Yesterday morning slathered a little moisturizing cream and put on a pair of disposable nitrile gloves and wore them pretty much the whole day and the skin is much better . The nice part of wearing the gloves is that you could actually wash (your glove covered hands) with a diluted bleach solution which is probably the cheapest most effective sanitizer there is.
I was down to my last 20 or so nitrile gloves. Most places didn't have my size but I found one ebay seller with the exact boxes I have and I sprung for it: A case of 10 boxes with 50 gloves each! 8 mil.

I have several hand/body lotions, never use them, but guess I should start doing that. However, if I don't leave the house I figure not so important to wash my hands. I was in the habit of almost always washing hands when I get home anyway to avoid colds and flu. I'm going to look into my lotions. Most are old, hopefully not rancid, stale or ineffective.

What do you consider a "good supply"? Enough to last you a week, a month, a year?

I would say enough to last a few months... 3+ or more.

Again this isn't so much a means of saying "OMG THERE IS AN EMERGENCY, HOW WILL I SHIT?!". It's more along the lines of "Oh wow, TP is never on sale to this amount, I'll buy 5 which gets me a $20 gift card equaling an amount of $xx.xx per sqft. That's a good deal to stock up on"

  • Haha
Reactions: pmv
Since so much hand sanitizer been sold and assuming people use it, and I'm sure heard the news about avoiding touching your face, mouth , nose. I wonder if there will be a substantial reduction of the common cold and regular seasonal flu that may offset some of the illness/death that covid-19 virus is bringing

I put it in my Amazon cart. I'm wondering if I could use those drops on the back of my throat, maybe by adding to some herbal tea and sipping? 10 drops ~= 15mg zinc. Don't know if it's appropriate formulation, it's in ionic form, I believe.

The zinc in these drops is zinc sulfate. I think what's in the lozenges is zinc acetate.
Hey, I'm getting it. The top review at Amazon points to a site that recommends under certain circumstances actually squirting zinc sulfate solution onto the back of your throat. Check this! ... where it says:

"Keep a bottle of high-quality liquid zinc sulfate on hand at all times. If you have the slightest inkling of symptoms, squirt zinc directly into your throat and let it coat the area. If you're sensitive to zinc, use just a few drops. "

Wow! TP doesn't concern me - I could go 5 years with the TP I have plus cut-up rolls of paper towels (have 6+ rolls of that).

Sorry, what? Water doesn't dissolve steel?

Someone should probably let reality know, so water can stop dissolving iron into rust.
I dunno. Iron rust is no more iron dissolving into water than it is iron dissolving into air. It's a chemical reaction in which molecules themselves change into other molecules (Iron Oxide). That isn't what's happening when you dissolve salt or sugar or whatever else into water.

Just watched this ~45 minute documentary on the covid-19 crisis from beginning to I think about 10 days ago. It's pretty well put together:

i haven't a clue whether or not zinc sulfate or zinc acetate makes a difference. I think an herbal tea may be a good idea. People are saying elderberry seems to help boost immune system ( again I cant say one way or another if its true). Dont think it would hurt to try a herbal elderberry tea with however many drops of the zinc you choose. Another alternative would be to make some type of solution you can gargle with.
I ordered that zinc supplement you linked, 1.6oz. To round up to free shipping I added an elderberry homeopathic cold remedy with 30 tablets and it contains Zinc Gluconate (2x, 6x HPUS), which I think is the same as is in the Zicam homeopathic lozenges I bought yesterday. Won't be stocked until Mar. 16. But I seem OK now, knock on wood. That Princess cruise liner is docking about 10 miles from me in a few hours! 😱

Eh, I've quit twice now without having my next job 100% lined up.

Ultimately I cannot stress this enough to folks... If a hospital..doctor...whatever... sends you a bill that is without insurance or even "out of network" it means nothing. Barter with them like it's a craigslist deal. Start with - I'll pay you 20%.

I've had those in my life (namely, "out of network" bullshit), and that's what happened every time. They just hope you don't question shit and just pay it. The bill total could be $342,623.44 - that doesn't mean that it's a reasonable price. That doesn't mean it would hold up in court. They know it's bullshit, and they are hoping you just bend-over.
Yeah, happened to me when I had an outpatient procedure using Cobra. Some of the billing I got was just OMG, I can't believe this. Got most of that waved, it was obviously ridiculous. The surgeon, IIRC, fine. But one or two of the attending staff had ridiculous bills. I got out from under that stuff.

Yeah, those Spring Valley 50mg zinc tablets are OOS. I signed up for an in stock alert.

Dunno. I think the zinc works better for this virus if it goes directly to the throat, as in a lozenge that would dissolve preferably while you're lying on your back.

The pills would probably not be the best solution, but you can always grind them up and make a tea out of them for the same basic effect as the lozenges or drops. Seems like you've got a product on the way, which is a good thing.

Overall, I would say having high levels of zinc in your body would be better when dealing with Covid-19, so if lozenges aren't available, you make do with what you can. Please read this before administering large quantities of zinc:

Looks like 150 mg/day is doable, but toxicity has been observed at doses around 300 mg/day.

Please don't anyone try using multivitamins as a large-dose zinc supplement, since multivites have things like iron and vitamin A (whatever isn't in the supplement as beta carotene; that stuff is mostly harmless) that are overdose risks.

Someone should probably let reality know, so water can stop dissolving iron into rust.

The other reply is probably better, but there is a lot of solid steel at the bottom of the ocean and the Great Lakes. Some of it is remarkably rust free despite having been there for many decades. Something about the interaction of water, steel and air. Lack of air slows the oxidation process.

I am flying tomorrow. I am curious to see how much hand sanitizer is everywhere in the airports. Heard they are all over the place from my buddy who's coming back from Europe as I type this. I'll have some hand sanitizer with me and some wipes. My mom dropped off some N95 masks too I'll have them but not wearing them initially or anything.

I'm mainly going to just be cautious of what I touch and stuff and make sure to wash the crap out of my hands. It's going to be hard to get my 4 year old to only touch what we tell him to.
Safe travels.
