You sure like writing, "commie China" even though China dumped communism over thirty years ago for capitalism a-go-go with the enthusiastic participation of American capitalists. If you want to write rotten things about the party dictatorship of the CCP have at it but the CCP ain't even slightly interested in communism anymore. They making way to much money for that.

Since when regular chinese could pick and choose their own leadership by free and fair election? Since when censorship is gone in china? Since when oppression is no longer exist in china? Do you know what happened to Dr. Li (the one that tried to pull the alarm when the virus first hit in Wuhan) by his own government, right?

Shall I go on? Uh huh.

PS. Here is a hint. Commie china vs. Democratic China (Taiwan).

It wasn't created in a lab. No one is saying that. Matt made that very clear.

It's "mandatory" because anything The West discovers in China linking the outbreak to a lab accident is going to be censored/deleted very soon, just like the the South China University Technical Institute research paper I first mentioned a month and a half ago.

It "ultimately matters" particularly because history will repeat itself if we let them get away with censorship, false scapegoating, and cover-ups. Disregard the impact their lies have had on the rest of the world: If now is still not the time to confront China on the underlying issues that caused their own people to suffer far worse than if they did not cover it up, then when?
Last year, when more information came out about their massive concentration camps?

The economy is largely capitalist but the governing party isn't.

The CCP is using their totalitarian Communist powers to suppress information, arrest doctors who discovered and privately warned each other about it, force them to sign statements to recant their discoveries to preserve social harmony, etc. It's the remaining Communist power that allowed this to happen. It couldn't happen this way if people were allowed to speak freely.
Communism is an economic system. Party dictatorship is a political system. China has one but not the other.

Communism required that power to impose. Communism gave them that power. They didn't give up that power when the "economic miracle" happened. Their continued power hinges on continuing to get credit for "the economic miracle." They are still the Communist Party. Communism is why they still have that power.

The CCP's power hinges on controlling the security apparatus and the military, same as in any other dictatorship. The only communism in the CCP is in the name.

So, when are we going to be able to buy "Coronavirus War Bonds"? With all of this deficit spending, you would think that the government would be hurting for some cash.

Come on, fellow Americans, it's time to get those Ventilators rolling off the assembly lines, and fight the evil Chinese virus (insert vaguely racist looking Chinese virus mascot dude here)!

From what I read and hear, the 2T spending bill that Trump signed recently would not be the only one for this mess. Pelosi was saying that there could be more spending bills on the way. YIke.

Georgia governor is going to keep all public schools, K-12, closed until fall. That's what I figured would happen when this whole mess started and it's turning out true. All of this still feels like a dream. My daughter is happy, but she's going to suffer academically. Those classroom lectures and interactions are important.

We live in a nice area that has low crime. My dad told me that cars are being broken into, and that I should be locking my car door.

His neighbor had his car stolen the other day. He left his keys in the car though.

Anyone afraid of crime returning?

Pro-tip, just because you live in a nice area does not mean your car is safe.

terrible way to draw a conclusion from that data. Just look at the bubble tea vs no bubble tea comparison. it's just as accurate.

I'd like to see a PCA. Some moron drawing circles around 2 factor charts and labeling them as variables that aren't even part of the data set is horribly incompetent. And, in this case, dangerous.

People that suck at data shouldn't be advising people as to what data means.

Also, we aren't Asian countries. We don't have the culture and infrastructure where the best advice would be the same. Here, we live in a different reality. People on average don't know wtf they are doing--that still hasn't changed in one month. Because our infrastucture was never where it needed to be, we could never tolerate every American running around with masks. It simply doesn't make sense. Magic doesn't exist in the world. We can't give everyone masks. They belong on the front lines in the hospital and the EMS. That has never changed. It's the same now as it was back in January.

depleting the supply of masks from the sectors that need them the most actually makes this worse for everyone. It just does. Simple asceptic behavior when in public, when you absolutely can't avoid it, is going to give you 90-95% of the protection that a mask will give you. When you accept this plain truth, and together with the fact that the same masks should be in the hands of medical professionals, we could begin to flatten this thing.

We won't get there if laymen continue to tout shit arguments from data they plainly don't understand.

...and damn it--now I've wasted 2 posts on this mask nonsense. Get it together, people! :D

No one really knows yet, but there's a paper from Nature that gives a bit more insight:

"The genomic features described here may explain in part the infectiousness and transmissibility of SARS-CoV-2 in humans. Although the evidence shows that SARS-CoV-2 is not a purposefully manipulated virus, it is currently impossible to prove or disprove the other theories of its origin described here. However, since we observed all notable SARS-CoV-2 features, including the optimized RBD and polybasic cleavage site, in related coronaviruses in nature, we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible."

Even if it is a natural virus it could still have been released from a lab. It's far more racist in my opinion to say it was because people are eating bats and such than to say it was an accidental release by someone studying the virus.

I wonder if there's any correlation as far as what factors cause some people to have no symptoms. Ex: blood type, race, strong immune system etc. Or if it's just completely random.

Wait, you can replant those?! I've been doing it wrong all this time and throwing them out!

How does making an improvised mask deprive medical professionals?

Per CDC, about 25% of infected people may have no symptoms.Yike.

"A significant portion of COVID-19 patients may never show coronavirus symptoms at all — a key factor aiding the spread of the virus, according to a top U.S. health official."

Ya know, this wouldn't be as much as a problem if we actually had enough tests available to test everyone. But, we're not even close to that point yet.
