People need to work. I just don't answer the door though. If you're knocking on my front door, I don't know you.

I'm 99% the same way. Two doors into the front on my house, one that looks like the main entrance and one off the driveway that friends and family use. Anyone knocks on the other door they're a stranger and I don't answer. Today though I felt the need to go out the other door ask him if he thought it was wise and safe to be doing what he's doing and he really looked like he didn't have the slightest idea of what I was talking about.

That's why I asked the question about 2 pages back - how many people do you think in the US still don't understand the severity of the issue to the point of continuing to do shit like door to door sales, and going up to neighbors to shake hands and say "Hey Bob how have you been?"

I honestly think the answer is higher than we realize, because while we might be fully aware - there are plenty of Americans that are just obliviously stupid.

This can clearly be seen every election as over half don't show up - or even know that elections are occurring.

Agreed on both. Guy probably doesn't have any choice, but I wouldn't answer the door either. (Wouldn't have even before the virus!)

Also as far as door to door solicitors.... This is what's on my front door lol. I've had plenty times where I see on my Ring camera people coming up to the door, reading the sign, then walking away.

Well, I think there's cause for concern for almost all of us. The incubation time for this is 2-14 days and I saw it said from a presumably reliable source that it can be longer. I am NOT assuming I'm not infected at any time. In fact, I have my thermometer right beside me and have been taking my temperature daily. OK, nobody blow up on me, OK?
well when i have a fever i can tell with out a thermometer but its not a bad idea

just ask them to put you on the list of dont ever come back, i have done it and they never came back, of course i have a sign on my door usually saying "sleeping go away nothing is for sale and i dont want to buy anything" ((i say sleeping in case on vacation to outsmart burglars ;P :p ))

Not shown in picture is the M1A1 phalanx that dude built ahead of time lined up behind him.

Or the fact that IT warned the king about what was coming, and the king chose to ignore until last minute. "We'll be fine".

WTF is wrong with people? Some asshole shows up on my front porch today trying to sell me solar panels. His fucking job is to go from stranger to stranger to stranger and he doesn't understand why that might be problematic.

And solar panels, at this time of year? lol. I would say yes in spite, and I want them installed now. "Here's a shovel". Then change my mind when he's done shoveling the roof. Speaking of snow I don't know if the snow we got yesterday is bonded by the strenght of covid-19, but I swear it was like trying to take spray foam off my truck. That was brutal. There is still a lot on there, I just cleared the windows so I can park on the street to do the driveway but it's not in a drivable condition at all. I don't even know what I'm going to do, not that I need or should go anywhere at this point.

It's definitely solar panel season here in Georgia. Spring is fully here and we've even had 90° F days. My car is covered with layers of pollen since I haven't been anywhere for days.

you know there is no snow on my roof, and it has only snowed in my city maybe 3x in 30 years, never enough to use a shovel, we dont all live up north or in the mountains. its a great time to install solar actually before the hot summer. im sure he just makes commission why not knock on doors just stand a few feet back dont breathe the sneezes you should be ok!

can anyone explain this? it is practically saying that the virus can barely be spread through contact from surfaces...
wish i could click the link, from what some say yes thats true, that you have to rub it in your eyes or nose to get it froma surface. others think you can get it from your hands from touching a gas pump /shrug. i have been worried about eating out since someone with the virus might handle the food or set it on a surface they sneezed coughed etc on DrMrLordX thinks that restaurants are so clean and immaculate that the virus simply cant be spread from teh food served. (i think its total shit, that no place is beyond a cough or sneeze)

ok i read the article, i guess we are safe to use our tongue on the ATM and open doors etc with our mouth, (that way you wont touch your eyes or nose and infect your self) i was kinda worried i would touch something that someone else was going to put in their mouth and have them get infected. now no worries (well according to that article probably funded by restaurant associations or something hehe)

Good read. Expert epidemiologist

Edit:

I notice he doesn't address mutation and if this will be a seasonal thing like influenza
Thanks for the link. It was good read. It made me more pessimistic about our and world economy short term though. I was hoping we bounce back sooner. I'm going to have to do some more thinking about how I want to play the market short term.

And for all the mask effectiveness doubters like @Amused , here's what he said about use of N95 masks.

Should we be wearing masks?

The N95 mask itself is extremely wonderful. The pores in the mask are three microns wide. The virus is one micron wide. So you get people who say, well, it's not going to work. But you try having three big, huge football players who are rushing for lunch through a door at lunchtime—they're not going to get through. In the latest data I saw, the mask provided 5x protection. That's really good. But we have to keep the hospitals going and we have to keep the health professionals able to come to work and be safe. So masks should go where they’re needed the most: in taking care of patients.

My state is locking down on Monday at 8pm:

Businesses that don't comply could face civil fines, Lamont said.

The closures will take effect at 8 p.m. on Monday, March 23 could last for weeks, he said.

Looks like it's gonna be a busy 3 days in the tech world!

So 'flattening the curve' may not be all it's cracked up to be?

Makes sense. The diagram as shown makes it clearer to see. However I think the longer we can buy time, the more they can prepare for it too. So the dotted line technically actually goes up a little bit over time. For example they are trying to retool factories to make masks, ventilators etc. That's great as far as supplies go but actual nurse and doctor resources is another story. They are pulling doctors out of retirement and even sending 2nd year university medical students to help. Way to get thrown to the wolves! lol.

I've been skeptical about getting food from restaurants but this article makes it seem like it's not a worry. It's worth a read when you can, though some of it still sounds questionable.

Even if a worker sneezes directly into a bowl of raw salad greens before packing it in a take-out container for you to take home, as gross as it is, it's unlikely to get you sick.

I'm not eating any restaurant food. I owned and worked in restaurants. I know it's impossible to keep the place and staff clean. If the virus can attach to surfaces, it can attach to food, bags, receipts, napkins, etc. Nope. The reason why government keeps the restaurants open is because otherwise some people would starve and we would have mass riots. If they could close the restaurants without massive social unrest, they would. All hell would break loose if the government closed restaurants. That's the real reason restaurants can remain open.

The way I've seen it explained as well, it's like trying to shoot an arrow through a forest to hit a target that is far into it. The arrow is small compared to the spaces between branches, but because the forest is thick, you are bound to still hit a branch. Basically the mask material is thick compared to the virus so even though the pores are bigger the virus may still just get lodged inside the mask instead of making it to you. Does not mean it won't though, but it reduces the chance at least.

Lot of them are resorting to take out only, which helps as it means less people going in and out of the building. I would think they are using extra precautions with food prep now but yeah, I'd still consider it a risk. I did end up ordering a poutine the other day though... but I am greatly reducing the amount of take-out I'm getting in general.

One issue though is that they don't allow foot customers at take out windows, something to do with insurance. The insurance companies should reverse that rule for now. Truckers are kinda being screwed right now since they can't go through the drive thru with their rig and fast food is their only real option when on the road.

to be fair, the question wasnt answered. its a yes or no question really. if anything it supports amused's stance.
