delay of game....FML.

and Saints friend pointing something else out: Another obvious no-call PI that decides the game, of course fucks the Saints. :D

Great game, came down to the last play and less than a foot, that delay of game penalty was a HUGE mistake though, it looked like Beastmode was going to finally get his shot but from 6-7yds out they had to pass.

Yea, you gotta call that, if both players are hand-fighting down the sideline that's one thing but Hollister was grabbed by both shoulders and stopped from going anywhere. It was clear Wilson expected him to slide to the left, that's where he threw it.

The margin of victory was, well, nonexistent. 2 inches? PI or no PI? That delay of game.

Wilson really is a great QB. What he does passing off of scrambling. How many times was he sacked? I remember one, Deforest Buckner early on.

There is no question on the PI. It was defensive PI.

I think so too, but under the circumstances, the refs considered it a "play on."

Upon retrospection, the delay of game wasn't that big of a deal. With 22 seconds left and no timeouts, would the Seahawks really risk getting stuffed on a run play? (Hints of the Super Bowl ending where Carroll & Co. got cute and ended up throwing the game-losing INT from the 2 yard line.)

Also, if def PI had been called, they'd advance 3 yards with under 15 seconds to play. I don't think that makes the TD any easier, but it does give them an extra down.

In other words, these two plays didn't decide the outcome (nearly as much as say the fumble reversal call that went in Clemson's favor last night). They both reduced the Seahawks chances a bit, but it still took a great tackle to seal the goal line stand.

I think the best part of that ending was when they got up to the one and everyone is running around super excited, you had Al and Chris in the booth yammering at each other and they didn't even notice the play clock expiring. Then when it expired they were like holy crap what just happened?

But getting stuffed on the 1-inch line was quite the end.

Yeah, previous three weeks were who, the Bengals, Jets and Giants? Squeaking out a couple of ugly wins there doesn't mean much. They were not impressive, they just beat some awful teams.

The answer is that the difference between the best team in pro-football and the worst team in pro-football isn't nearly as much as one might think, hence the phrase "on any given Sunday"?

And Miami did play much better over the course of the season. I have nothing but respect for Fitzpatrick he played his heart out and willed that so-so Dolphin team to those wins.

Also the Brady-Bunch have aged and bled talent to the point of being done at least for the 2019-20 season. They MAY be able to get past the playoff-inexperienced Titans at home but after that they run into a buzz-saw.

Agreed no question about it. LONG way from the first time we've seen nonsense like this sadly. Really takes away from
my enjoyment of the NFL.

Having said that however, it was fairly consistent with the way the ref's have been "letting them play" with non-calls this season. For awhile it went too far the other way with PI so I guess this is a correction?

Be nice if they could just focus on getting it right.

Doesn't the defense player have a 5 yard cushion allowing physical contact in that circumstance? Even if not applicable for that situation, that non-call was nowhere near as egregious as the PI non-call that bounced the Saints from the playoffs last year.

It was in the endzone. There is no cushion. Also, there is no cushion that allows you to wrap your arms around a receiver and trap them. The cushion allows you to bump them a bit and slow them down/alter their route.

One may argue that it wasn't as egregious, because it wasn't as instantly visibly obvious as decking a dude from behind, but by the letter of the law, it was no less egregious in execution.

I do tend to agree with olds that it maybe didn't make as much of a difference, in the end, though. The delay of game really was bad, though. It happened because Wilson wasn't paying attention or thinking, and there was just too much chaos in that moment, in a situation where you should have about 2 options ready to unload. It was a killer in the sense that it revealed Seattle didn't know what they were doing at that moment--probably influenced by some karmic desire to put Lynch in that situation, against their normal gameplan. One of those rare moments where Wilson was thoroughly lost.

That wasn't olds, that was manly in post #237:

Yea, that was WAY overdue and I think Ron R will get them going in the right direction.
WAY overdue is right.

He fired the entire medical staff too.

And from what I heard, he has been doing all of this in person in his office. Prior, he would send one of his cronies to do the dirty work.

So it looks like a legit cleaning house and culture changes are coming.

That is a possibility. I just hope Rivera has full control of his staff. Rumor has it that his agent would not even allow the interview meeting until Allen was out of the picture.

Ron was a Golden Bear. Did you see the Cal/Illinois game? Cal might actually be good next year, 10 offensive starters returning... Chase Garbers was pretty great yesterday. I hate to get my hopes up about Cal, there's good reason they call the Cal faithful "The Blues." Shit, they haven't won the Pac 10 or 12 since the late 1950's! Cal has had a lot of great players, and in the NFL, but as a team hasn't stood out for 60 years!
