We’re currently investigating an issue related to the forum theme and styling that is impacting page layout and visual formatting. The problem has been identified, and we are actively working on a resolution. There is no impact to user data or functionality, this is strictly a front-end display issue. We’ll post an update once the fix has been deployed. Thanks for your patience while we get this sorted.
Simply click Internet Options/Advanced and uncheck Use inline AutoComplete in Windows Explorer. Then "apply" . . . no more popups.
After the problem with the popoffs are over, you can turn it on again. (Or else you can look through some locked threads for "Adds-Off" and similar freeware pop-off killers.
Popup = suck
I hope this is just someone's idea of a practical joke and not a permanent accessory to the forums....
I renounce these popups in the name of all that is good and sacred!!!!

I get no more popups after this simple trick. However, once this problem is resolved here, turn it back on as you may be missing something intrinsic in some webpages.
i have finally decided to use Nutscrape and they are gone. don't laugh! the only reason i even have it on my computer is to test my forums which currently don't work properly with nutscrape. 🙁
IT is possible to specifically disable javascript in IE for just these forums by adding forums.anandtech.com to you black list and then setting different permissinos
I've seen at least 5 different posts on how annoying some of the new ads here on Anands are supposed to be.
Unfortunately, I cant give my opinion on how annoying these advertisements really are because I have yet to see
even one of them.
Here are a few tips on avoiding advertisements:
1) Turn off javascript -- This will stop all pop-up ads.
1b) Get mozilla -- I believe there is a bit of code out there that blocks certain javascript functions. This may be
linux-only, I dont know.
2) Get junkbuster. (www.junkbuster.com) -- Junkbuster is an ad-busting proxy. It is fully configurable and can
stop your system from GETing files from known ad sites like ad.doubleclick.com and known ad paths like /ads. It
works on windows and unix. I dont know about macs.
