No popups with Netscape Navigator, just for all of those people that said there was no use for it.

I did open up IE and got the Visa pop-up.

Normally I can tolerate the simple unobtrusive ads, but these things freakin' suck!

🙁

Oh Ricky, where are you...

😉

Viper GTS

GAH!! Windows popping up everywhere! This is REALLY annoying, if they have to put ads, they should put them as banners or something, popups suck.

so like when did anandtech switch to hosting their stuff on geocities 🙂

man i've got like 3 aria windows open now.

Extremely unprofessional.

I just got it 30secons ago. Its a visa ad. Anyway, I have a screen shot if you are interested. I don't have the address though. I'll copy the address if I see it again next time.

It's 7:20pm PST and I just logged in and got assalted with them. I shut down for about five minutes and now I don't get them.

The pop-ups are still here. Every page visit ("BACK" and "FORWARD&quot😉 pops a new ad. This is more annoying than tripod! (IE6 is used here)

HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I AM NOT TOO MUCH IN DEBT!!!!!!!!!!!! I dont recall this ever happening before.. WHY TODAY?????? I have 5 boxes I forgot to close and about 15 I had to close !! my goodness every move performed here on anandtech results in an annoying popup!!!

Yeah, got the popups. And they suck big time, but let's be realistic on the issue.

I'll say bluntly, that you can't blame NextCard or Aria or Debtconsolidation.com.

It's 1) whoever they've hired to serve their ads (Looks like 24/7 media and advertising.com), AND 2) freaking Anandtech's web-design! These things just don't get served for no particular reason.

A bug in some code somewhere, but not the companies that bought the advertising, the webpage & ad-servers.

In most, if not all, cases NextCard/Aria/Debtconsolidation/etc are not even told by the Advertising Networks they hire what sites their ads will be placed on. They can choose "catagories" of sites (sports, news, computer sites). That way the companies can't go directly to the particular site and undercut 24/7 etc and buy ads for cheaper.

Can you tell I'm a little bit sensitive about this? I used to buy banner ads for a website and got complaints from customers about where they saw our ads!! First off, if you thought the site was inappropriate, what the H*LL are you doing there in the first place, second off, I wish we had that kinda control!

OK. There was a little bit, so we could ban serving to a particular site if we got a complaint, but we'd never know all the rest of the sites being served our ads without other feedback.

damm my computer can't handle all these popups 😛

TAKE THEM OFF PLEASE, not everyone have a Ghz system here 😛
but seriously, 1 popup for every page that you load is a bit much

Hmm, dont tell AT is having financial crisis. damn economy

the reason you netscape users aren't getting popups is because netscape sucks so bad with javascript(and just about everything else) that it is unable to display the stupid popups. 😛

on another note i have now killed 45 popups! :|
