As just said by Sen. Harry Reid. This should make things rather interesting.

This is the best news I've heard regarding UHC since it's become a headline topic. Maybe, just maybe, they'll take the time to craft logical legislation rather than just passing something in the name of passing something as many in here would like to see. IT IS ABSOLUTELY STUPID to pass legislation without actually planning it out and at least giving a cursory glance towards the possible ramifications of it upon our society. Oh, happy day.

Congress will be thinking about 2010 election when they get back from their summer break. Perhaps the Healthcare bill is truly dead.

If they are thinking election, they should think about what happened to them when they failed to get health care reform done in 93.

Damn, I was hoping they'd finally be able to get something done this time around. Honestly, I think that waiting until after the break will just give a better chance for those who either want to kill the bill or those who are good intentioned but ignorant to amend the bill and make it even more convoluted than it already is.

It really is 1993 all over again. The ads against healthcare reform are eerily similar...

Thank fucking gawd.

Well thought out, limited, reasonable, specific, cost-effective healthcare reform FTW!

I watch more History Channel than anything, but even that and Discovery have a few of those ads...

You are right though, most of TV is crap nowadays. I spend far few hours in front of that screen.

I'm for HC Reform but I feel that it needs more work, hopefully they can comprimise and find a way to appeal to the Moderates. As for the Wingnut Republicans, fuck them, it seems they have nothing to offer.

Too subjective. Which is why Republicans are never going to get health care reform done, and we'll have UHC adopted eventually.

If it happens in the fall, so be it.

Regardless, passing major reform like this in his first year in the White House will be monumental for Obama. He has the necessary Congressional seats to do it until at least late 2010, so a few months delay won't matter in the long run.

I've said already that I don't mind more time if it makes the bill better. I am not convinced it will, but I guess we'll see. More time is more time for lobbyists to mess with this bill and tip off American taxpayer.

Obama = owned.

Maybe next time he can push for a bill that isn't a total piece of sh*t. We can hope, right?

Should something so damn important be unable to hold itself up for a month while they BBQ, though?

This piece of legislation sucked. Congressional budget committee said it wouldn't save any money. Go back to the drawing board and come up with something better.

And maybe an extra month will give Obama ample time to actually read the fvcking bill...?!

Wait, you actually think that the country handed over congress to the republicans in '94 because the dems didn't pass health care in '93?? Serious question, btw.

I readily admit that our current system could stand some improvements, but this steaming pile of dung that is festering in congress right now isn't it. And no, I'm not some flaming wingnut drooling at the thought of an Obama failure. It's only logical that if we feel compeled to do something, let's take some time and think it through, including the downstream ramifications of whatever gets implemented. You can't blame people for being skeptical when all you hear is 'Pass it now!! Don't read it, sign it!! We can't wait another day!!' Totally not the right way to win friends and influence people.

I'm afraid I can't go with Obama's rush to get this done by August. It is too damn important and I fear it will be a disaster if costs are not an important factor. I think the best minds in the country should be tasked to tell us how to cover people and Democrats, Republicans, doctors, insurance companies, hospital's be damned. The notion of getting your health care from an organization whose profit depends on you getting as little care as possible is total insanity as is the throttle hold doctors have on how many medical schools there are and now many doctors we create. You are a fucking worthless piece of shit if you get rich of sick people.
