Sony already said long ago that they support being able to take your disk and play it in any system. If you have the physical media, you can play it anywhere.

There was no "but only friends on your list for 30 days and only once"

yes, but its just market speak.. SONY wont do it.. but they wont stop it.. here is his exact quote.. "left to game devs"

According to Yoshida, "At a roundtable this morning, Sony's game studios chief, Shuhei Yoshida, told reporters that any requirement for users to register a game online in order to play it would be left to game publishers. Sony won't require that."

So, raise your hand.. if they do it ON the MS console.. who thinks the devs wont do it on the SONY console? So what if sony wont require it.. they wont stop it either.. Of course some of it will be differnet Xbox has "friends list" sony has something else.

it has nothing to do with SONY.. it has to do with DEV's.. money.. Im no FAN of MS.. in fact the only company i think is worse is APPLE and the locked down Over prices BS.. But the only thing I can see MS doing wrong right now that sony inst

#1 not being clear on this to start...
#2 keeping on talking, Sony has effectively shut its mouth and let MS do all the talking (excellent move sony) MS is taking a beating, but in the end when both do the same thing, was it justified?

again.. only time will tell, but it appears the same to me.. and since this is a discussion forum, please let me know where Im wrong.. I dont plan on buying either console if I am right.. but If im wrong I will be happy.. I would love to get a PS4.

I am not bashing MS or loving sony.. I'm just trying to see where I'm wrong on this..

I'd wait awhile before joining the 'Sony is the DRM savior' circle jerk. They announced first and wisely avoided being too specific on this. Now that MS has announced some DRM I expect to see more out of Sony soon. If they don't have some sort of solution in the wings they're dumb. The game devs will demand it. I will be shocked if Sony is only media locked like current consoles.

I don't think anyone was confused about that. Obviously there will be differences between platforms, always have been, always will be.

Pretty sure what he's saying is, if MS is going to implement strict DRM, there's nothing stopping Sony from also enacting some sort of DRM. They might make it less restrictive to appear better than MS, but there is a good chance they'll have something.

this logic simply does not make any sense to me.

basically you are saying "since X is doing it, Y will do it too" without any reasoning behind it.

No, I'm saying "since X is doing it, Y could do it too." That's all I'm saying, can't speak for the other guy.

Nothing is confirmed yet so I can't say for sure what will happen. Just that MS implementing DRM opens the door for Sony to do it as well. If they do go with a used game DRM similar to MS's, they will definitely keep it quieter than MS did, and they will probably offer a little more freedom. And hopefully they will actually know what they are doing since every MS employee apparently got a different memo.

I think that Sony would be smart just to come out and say what they are doing right away. In fact, if they were going with something similar, they should have done it before the conference so they could leave on a high note with games, like MS did.

sorta.. but you are using X=MS Y=Sony

x and y = DEVS in my version

sony and MS make very few games in the big picture.. IF EA makes Madden 2014 for MS and its locked to a specific console, I cant see them making it for SONY and not locking it too, after all SONY SAID "its up to the devs", same words MS used. There is no upside for EA not to lock it on both consoles.. OH sure the PR "the customers will love us if we dont".. good argument.. when the shareholders come in, use it and see how far it gets you.

I truely hope the backlash from this changes thier minds.. but I cant see it.. we all sit here and type "i wont buy it" but of every person who typed that, 95% will buy it, and soon the games will be locked so hard playing them will require a phone in to a operator.

I can promise with 100% accuracy if they lock used games out in any way or form I wont be buying, don't care who manufactures the console.

all this "wait and see" is correct.. but blindly hoping its not true when all actual quotes and data point to it being true is silly too.. There is no Doubt Both SONY and MS are doing the double talk and not giving us EXACT workings (ea should clear up some). and no I'm not saying Im right.. I hope Im more wrong then i have ever been .

its been "up to the devs" the past gens of consoles to do this, and no one did except ea last gen, and it backfired on them and they removed it. other than everyone fear mongering, there is absolutely no reason to believe sony would all of a sudden do it now.

Here's the quote I'm talking about

"Yes. That's the general expectation by consumers," said Yoshida. "They purchase physical form, they want to use it everywhere, right? So that's my expectation."

Except there is speculation everyone is doing it on the Xbox One. Why would they do it on one platform and not on the other? It just makes sense for publishers to do it. They already want to. MS is taking all of the flack for it, when in reality it is EA, Acitivision, Ubisoft, etc that are pushing behind the scenes.

It makes perfect sense for them to do it on both platforms. Sony might pretend they are the champion of used games and consumer "rights", but in the end they don't care. They will play up their role and push the blame onto publishers (if they are smart) and let them take it. "We'd let you sell your used games if it were up to us" means about as much as "I'd buy your game if it were only slightly different."

I guess we will see in a few hours, but I am leaning toward Sony going the same route.

I will buy the PS4 because it matches my Sony TV... But seriously, I've been a PS fan since they launched the 1st PS. Tried the Wii and X360, sold both, went back to PS consoles. I do like Nintendo's handhelds though. I have almost all of them since the original Gameboy. I'm just not a huge PC gamer. I play a game here and there, but I like to play my games on the big screen.

I'll most likely get a PS4 day one. Will wait before buying an Xboxone. None of the launch titles are must buys.

I'll end up with both at some point.

I'll be getting a PS4 and Xbox One probably. Probably not both at launch as $1000 is a big investment. Maybe neither at launch considering most games are coming Spring 2014.

Considering how many people were saying that their games wouldn't be launch titles, I really don't feel an urge to purchase at launch.

I'm going to assume that I will own a PS4 and XBone by the end of 2014. I already have a gaming PC and smartphone, and I have no interest in the Wii U.

honestly at this point, i dont' know if i will be purchasing either of them at launch.

ps4 has absolutely 0 games that are exclusive to it, ps+ for online which is more than live even, but has a great price point.

x1 has much better games, but has all the stupid ass drm shit. the $100 price difference doesn't bother me at all.

I dunno anymore. I'm going to wait 3 months and see how games look on EACH console. But, Sony took the hat with that press conference. Like I said, I was extremely surprised.

This was a DIRECT SHOT at MS. Just every single thing was a shot at MS. I think after this, even I'm worried for MS. I thought they had it in the bag, but even though MS has a LOT of things PS4 doesn't, an apple TV can do a lot of the things the Xbox does and with the $100 dollar difference, PS4 owners can go out and get a device like the apple TV.

Didn't expect this, but I'll wait to see where the exclusives are. Or maybe I won't. I've done a complete 180 though from neutral/ telling people not to worry about MS's plan to now worried for them greatly....

PS4 will definitely have exclusives, basically every system has them. Owning a PS4 for the first year will likely have a ton of them, just like on Xbone. Halo one way, Uncharted the other, etc.

what makes you think this? they hardly showed ANY exclusives, and what, 1 new IP? the history of sony console launches is that they don't have much exclusives at launch and for liek a year into it. ps2 was like that and so was ps3. not sure why ps4 would make you think any different, ESPECIALLY after how little they have shown.

xbox1 will have at least 15 by the end of this year. sony hasn't made any claim like that, and probably becaus they won't have many.

Ok so Xbox has great exclusives, coming in Spring/Fall 2014. So guess what? I could get a cheaper PS4, buy 2 games, come in 20 dollars more expensive than an Xbox 1, then purchase an xbox one when it hits 400.

MS paid developers not to show cross platform games on the PS4, only on the Xbone. Several of the "exclusives" aren't really exclusive. Unless they actually said "EXCLUSIVELY on Xbox One," it's cross platform. Even some Xbox One exclusive games aren't really exclusive because they'll also be available on PC and/or 360.

Just look at the exclusives for PS3 vs. 360 right now - the PS3 has many and is constantly getting more; the 360 has almost none aside from shitty Halo sequels.

Sony said this 40 new titles, 20 in year 1. 1/3rd of them new IPs

yeah i know all this, and have many more exclusives on ps3 than i do on 360. i'm not sure what that has to do with "must haves" at the launch of the ps4 though.

we're talking about buying consoles at launch here, not buying consoles 6 years into their life cycle.
