Cops are expected to be professional at all times. The problem is many police officers let their emotions get in the way of their work. I don't care if someone spits, gives them the finger or even strikes an officer they are expected to be a professional in worst case scenarios. Being a cop isn't a glamorous job. They know what the job entails. They should find a new line of work if they can't do it ethically.

Imagine if you were a special ed teacher in a classroom full of emotional disturbed children. You know damn well what the job is going to entail. Now, imagine having a kid that constantly curses at you. Are you going to belt the kid in the face because you got upset at what he said? You'd get fired. The same should happen with these police officers who overstep their boundaries.

He did not say they could not be arrested, just the cops expected to be professional.
Spitting is an arrestable offense while giving the finger has been ruled protect time after time after time again in court after court after court again.

Yea. I don't condone any of those actions. Spitting on an officer should be dealt with quickly. I was just stating that cops are expected to act professionally all the times.

If you want to work as a police officer you are going to have to keep your emotions in check or find another career. The cop checker was being a douche on purpose. Being a douche does not give the police a free pass on violating citizens rights.

not to point out the obvious but shouldn't that be a "duh"? everyone in a job should be act professional. When i go to to the bar i expect my bartender to act like a pro. same as the cashier at hyvee etc.

maybe i'm missing the point. but yeah i expect cops to be act professionally at all times. are you saying that's a bad thing? or causes them more stress?

Morally? Look we have a problem with the sort of personality type that is often attracted to the badge. It's a trump card that nobody else has. It allows them to answer and escalate any perceived "diss" to whatever is the end-result, from a citation to face-first into the pavement to "if you can gasp some intelligible words then you can breathe", legally allowing them to use force where, if they were a private citizen, would constitute assault and battery. Or at the most, a private citizen would get half the blame for the confrontation, where as a police officer, they can put it all off on the other person. To have the badge means always getting the last word or laugh. "Respect me OR violence", no different from any other thug who promises violence for lack of respect. e.g. all the memes on Facebook "If you get to stomp on my flag, I get to stomp on your face." Unionists who fully embrace "respect or violence". Dress and act like cishetero male or you deserve violence. Keep to your side of the tracks or violence. They're all the same.

I'd like to get as many of these passive-aggressive psychopathic assholes out in the open as possible, so they can be forced to do something else for a living before they end-up killing some unarmed person because "I felt my life was in danger" (translation: I was afraid to take a punch). Something more compatible with their personality traits, maturity level, and emotional restraint, like Subway Sandwich Artist or something.

No, most people are just being a little bit more nuanced than you are.

Nobody is saying the cop should have assaulted the guy, they do agree that the guy is the victim, however they're just saying the guy was being stupid for being a provocateur.

Let's change your wife beating husband example to something less gender charged. Let's say there is a guy A walking around in the park flipping people off and getting into their faces. Eventually some random guy, let's call him guy B snaps and decks him. Now, most people will agree that guy B is in the wrong and that he should not have punched guy A, but there will be very little sympathy for guy A because he was clearly acting like an asshole.

Only because citizens have had enough, leveraged inexpensive cameras, and taken matters into their own hands.

Time to disband most internal affairs departments. Totally useless at ensuring a high quality police force.
