Dune 1984 is disgusting. The world is corrupt, bloated, vile, it's a hymn to drugs, a triumph of violence.

Dune 2021 is clean, sterile, HEROIC, and fucking bland. If it was a spice, it would be salt.
I think you succeeded in pinpointing why some (or most?) people would find the original movie not to their liking.

Yes it is a mineral if you are talking like a scientist - in cooking terms it is considered a seasoning. But he used it in the context of spices - as far as adding flavor, salt is the most important one.

It is also a seasoning, but it isn't a spice. Spices come from plants.

I started watching C.B. Strike on HBO Max, a British detective series. This one I like. So far about 2/3 done with Season one and they just wrapped up case numero dos. Sure it has lots of genre cliches but it's a good show and I like the characters.

oh also, I really liked Get Millie Black - a Jamaican set detective story. Definitely recommend. Intense.
Been watching C.B. Strike this week-end, pretty decent.

Flight Risk

Mark Wahlberg being his natural psychopath self.

Decent lady lead.

Topher Grace being an annoying ass. Liked him much better toward the end because he was acting more and speaking less. Can't believe he's married to Ashley Hinshaw. That bitch.

7/10. The movie worked for me, especially the ending.

40 years late, i finally watched

Prizzi's Honor - https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089841/reference/

I didn't think much of it.
First, it's a wannabe Godfather script, with half-assed Italians who haven't seen the shores of italy in six generations. The plot revolves all around various character "getting pushed to order another character's death" but the things these characters do, to get the hit, is more imaginary than realistic. You won't find Carlo Rizzi getting strangled here, no subterfuge, no paranoia, nor do the hits go down with any drama or violence, with the film solidly PG-13 in having no blood, swear words or nudity - smoking is as far as they go.
Second, while it's directed by John Huston, and also starring his daughter Anjelica "Morticia" Huston, with Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner as "lead", a lot of time is dedicated to secondary character all of which are extremely bland and boring, and even the leads' dialogue is sub-par. I guess this film must have been the equivalent of Baby's First Mafia Movie for many in the 80s, given how fucking everyone was talking about "you gotta see Prizzi's Honor".

Wouldn't recommend it. It's incredibly mediocre, aside from Anjelica Huston who is magnificent, but she has 3 scenes in the whole film; the plot is mediocre, the acting is mediocre, the dialogue is boring, the interactions betwene the characters are flat, and the "crime", which should be the primary element of this crime film, is barely suitable for a Rugrats episode.

5/10
Why the hell did they cast a smoking hot blonde in a 10-sec role who gets in an elevator, gets her ass groped, which serves to delay a bodyguard so one of the bad guys can get killed, and then not even write her name in the credits. Why !

Elevator Girl In Leather Skirt would have been enough.

I enjoyed that movie when it came out mostly because I love Angelica Houston but have not watched it since. I don't know that it was intended to be a mob movie, per se but more of a black comedy.

Only just realised (after looking at IMDB) that I've never actually seen it. The movie I had in my mind (and have had for a long time) as being "Prizzi's Honor", was in fact "Carlito's Way".

Stupid movie name templates. <Italian guy>'s
.

Twisters - 2/10 - god what an awful movie. This movie has absolutely nothing on the original one. There is absolutely nothing redeeming about this movie but so much wrong with it.

I finished season one and am three deep into season 2. I still really like it. It's a really solid detective series. I like the main characters. I don't even care that they are playing with a romance there either. The murders are interesting and so is the detective work. Sure it has some dumb convenient plot movement moments but it's still a quality show.
