40 years late, i finally watched
Prizzi's Honor -
https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0089841/reference/
I didn't think much of it.
First, it's a wannabe Godfather script, with half-assed Italians who haven't seen the shores of italy in six generations. The plot revolves all around various character "getting pushed to order another character's death" but the things these characters do, to get the hit, is more imaginary than realistic. You won't find Carlo Rizzi getting strangled here, no subterfuge, no paranoia, nor do the hits go down with any drama or violence, with the film solidly PG-13 in having no blood, swear words or nudity - smoking is as far as they go.
Second, while it's directed by John Huston, and also starring his daughter Anjelica "Morticia" Huston, with Jack Nicholson and Kathleen Turner as "lead", a lot of time is dedicated to secondary character all of which are extremely bland and boring, and even the leads' dialogue is sub-par. I guess this film must have been the equivalent of Baby's First Mafia Movie for many in the 80s, given how fucking everyone was talking about "you gotta see Prizzi's Honor".
Wouldn't recommend it. It's incredibly mediocre, aside from Anjelica Huston who is magnificent, but she has 3 scenes in the whole film; the plot is mediocre, the acting is mediocre, the dialogue is boring, the interactions betwene the characters are flat, and the "crime", which should be the primary element of this crime film, is barely suitable for a Rugrats episode.
5/10
Why the hell did they cast a smoking hot blonde in a 10-sec role who gets in an elevator, gets her ass groped, which serves to delay a bodyguard so one of the bad guys can get killed, and then not even write her name in the credits. Why !
Elevator Girl In Leather Skirt would have been enough.
