I'm pondering biting on the special edition Modern Warfare Elite bundle, but how do the Rock Band Track pack downloads (and exported Rock Band 1 tracks) work moving from console to console? Do I transfer the hard drive contents to the new console via cable/network, or do I redownload the content based on my Live ID? The latter option seems less likely since there's no Marketplace location to download them from, and the code attached to the track packs claims that they're single use.

I'm curious about this as well, since I have exported my RB1 songs and my ACDC songs.

I think all you need to do is perform the HDD transfer and then the license migration.

There are reports that the upcoming 10/11 Best Buy circular contains an ad for Brutal Legend with the text "Best Buy Exclusive: Get a 3 Song Rock Band Track Pack FREE with purchase (Token in box)". It's not clear what the pack is, so in theory it could be anything (already existing DLC for example), but this may indicate that a Brutal Legend 3-pack is coming out soon. The Brutal Legend soundtrack is huge, so there's no telling what the 3 songs might be if this is happening.

Looks like we've got a lead on one of the songs in this pack. There's an audio interview with one of the cofounders of Harmonix. In it, another Harmonix employee states, "I was working on We Are the Road Crew, which is an upcoming DLC track." We Are the Road Crew is a Motorhead song that is on the Brutal Legend soundtrack.

Don't think so. Just need to redownload via LIVE ID.

I share an ID with my friend and we're both able to download no problem.

Without the license migration, the songs will only be available if you are connected to Live. If you are not online and the songs are on the "wrong" console, they will not be available to play.

Wow, what an awesome variety this week. We get the expected Brutal Legend 3-pack, the last two Rock Band Unplugged tracks, plus Kansas, Satriani and a band I've never heard of, L7. I'm removing the RBU section from special announcements since it is now done.

EDIT: I'm also going to throw up an extra week since we already have the Queen announcement.

GOOD MORNING!

In celebration of our good friends at Double Fine putting out Brütal Legend on Rocktober 13th we have a 3 pack of tracks from their soundtrack - Motörhead, Tenacious D, and Testament. If you'd like to hear more about the music in Brütal Legend we have a sweet interview with creator Tim Schafer on our brand spanking new bi-weekly podcast which you can find here on our podcast page (there's also an interview with Claudio from Coheed and Cambria!)

?These are three great songs that totally capture the feeling of Brütal Legend. I can?t wait to play them in Rock Band,? said Tim Schafer, founder of Double Fine Productions. ?I?ve air-drummed to all of them so many times, I?m sure I?ll be able to beat them on hard mode, no problem. Or at least on medium. Like medium plus. That?s a setting, right??

But the fun doesn't stop there Because we also have tracks from Black Tide, Blink-182, Joe Satriani, Kansas, and L7. We also have a track from Pearl Jam and one from Foreigner hitting Rock Band: Unplugged.

HAPPY ROCKTOBER!
Sean

Here are a couple of tidbits on upcoming DLC bands, these both sound like they might be coming via RBN (Rock Band Network).

Flight of the Conchords

This seems to be a comedy guitar duo, I listened to a few of their songs on YouTube and they were pretty funny. I guess they also have a TV show.

Bowling for Soup

Man, I would love to get "1985" in Rock Band.

It seems that the official Rock Band podcast (available on iTunes) has spilled the beans on next week's DLC a little early. We get a bit of a Halloween theme with a Rob Zombie 3-pack, plus a Wolfmother 5-pack, two Morningwood songs and one Liz Phair track.

Rob Zombie ? Burn
Rob Zombie ? Dragula
Rob Zombie ? Superbeast
Liz Phair ? Rock Me
Morningwood ? Best of Me
Morningwood ? Sugarbaby
Wolfmother ? White Unicorn
Wolfmother ? New Moon Rising
Wolfmother ? Pilgrim
Wolfmother ? Sundial
Wolfmother ? Woman

This knocks out yet another old GH2 song - Woman was in there.

EDIT: I like the Xbox lyric in the Liz Phair song. :)

OK, this is going to take some getting used to. And it sucks that I don't have a summary line to update anymore. Anyway, here's the belated post for tomorrow's DLC.

What's poppin'?

Next week for DLC (ON MY BIRTHDAY!) we have some DLC. What do we have? How about a Nirvana 3-pack from Bleach? Or maybe a 4-pack of the rest of the Foo Fighters catalog to celebrate their upcoming Greatest Hits coming out on the third? That doesn't float your boat? How about Joan Jett & The Blackhearts? Enjoy, play, and have some damn cake!

-Sean

Flight of the Conchords is a pretty hilarious show, I like pretty much all the songs they have on there too. I hope to see more smaller bands put their stuff on via RBN, even when they put music on here from bands I like it tends to be their most mainstream songs which usually aren't my favorite.

There's an interesting rumor (partly sourced from the band itself) that Third Eye Blind has just rerecorded six songs for Rock Band:

Semi-charmed Life
Losing a Whole Year
Never Let You Go
Graduate
Jumper
Motorcyle Drive By

However, these could take a long time to come out considering that rerecord just happened. Still, I'm happy to hear this because I like at least a couple of those songs.

As a minor update to this, one of the members of Third Eye Blind was just quoted as saying this pack is coming out by the end of the year.

There's an announcement on the RB2 message of the day claiming that SpongeBob songs are coming out Tuesday (today), but no such songs were in the original announcement for this week, so I'm a little confused. But this may indicate more SpongeBob coming soon.

EDIT: I never realized this until now, but Sweet Victory which is nominally a SpongeBob song, is actually by the lead singer of Giuffria and sounds fantastic! Now I'm really hoping for that one, since it's probably the closest I will ever come to getting Giuffria in Rock Band.

It looks like there was a "surprise" SpongeBob pack today, probably meant as special DLC for the Lego Rock Band release. Sadly, Sweet Victory was not included. I updated the OP.

SpongeBob SquarePants - Employee of the Month
SpongeBob SquarePants - A Day Like This
SpongeBob SquarePants - Ridin' the Hook

I gotta ask for a Microsoft point card for Christmas, I've got some downloading to do (over...dial up...ugh)

But week after week goes by with the same question going unanswered: Where the fuck is The Cure?

If I don't get an opportunity to display my best Robert Smith impression outside of the shower soon, I am unsure of what will happen.

There was a really old leaked DLC list that included "Just Like Heaven" by The Cure, but so far it has never materialized.

Well, crap. Really, any Cure would be great and I'd buy it right up. I'd really like Fascination Street or Let's Go to Bed.
