While I do like that song, it's questionable for Rock Band. Nearly the entire first minute is nothing but keyboards and vocals, so everyone on instruments will be twiddling their thumbs for a while, and the song isn't all that long.

I didn't consider that. Ah well, as it's the only Night Ranger song I like, I'll just have to be content with my mp3 of it.

Strange choice for Adam's Song, why put a song about suicide in a supposed family game?

They can do whatever they want with DLC as its your choice on what you add to it. It was also incredibly popular. They've had Last Resort by Papa Roach for a while too and IMO that's a much more blatant song about suicide.

It's rated T for teen. If you're not at least a teen you shouldn't be playing

The announcement is tomorrow morning so we'll know soon enough, but it has been reported that MTV2 advertised that "Your Decision" by Alice in Chains will be available in the 1/12 DLC release. This could mean another Alice in Chains pack is coming (people are hoping for "Them Bones" which was in Guitar Hero 2).

Kind of a disappointing lack of diversity this week, oh well.

Dear Alice In Chains fans,

Next week for DLC will be like Christmas Part 2: The Reckoning for you. Why? Because we have a super sweet Alice In Chains pack coming your way (bet you didn't see that one coming). Merry CP2:TR!

Best,
HMXSean

Well I guess what I meant was it's more weird if you're playing with a group, I actually dled the song because I like it lol. Now that I think about it what i said was pretty stupid, there are plenty of non group or family friendly songs(I should know I dled a lot of the metal songs they put on it lol).

Man, the DLC for RB has really been lame for a long time now. Where the "Rock". I am sick of live tracks and crap songs! We need some more Grand Funk Railroad! :)

What's so bad about live tracks? They may not sound as clean as studio recordings but that kind of gives the music a more raw and real feeling imo.

That's Rock Band Network, and it's not vaporware, though it is admittedly delayed from the original launch schedule. The beta test is still progressing. There's even a song list of stuff that has already been approved for sale at launch, some complete with gameplay videos. There's even more stuff in the approval pipeline.

The PS3 patch that enables the RBN store (among other fixes) rolled out about a week ago, so hopefully it's getting closer.

This week we get the exclusives from the Metal Track Pack, plus a surprise song that wasn't on the track pack - Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult. Be warned that Hair of the Dog is a rerecord, and they really screwed up the chorus ("Now you're messing with a son of a bitch"). It doesn't sound the same at all and is very disappointing, otherwise I probably would have gotten it. The video link in the OP takes you to a Rock Band session so you can hear the DLC version.

Blue Öyster Cult was one of the biggest mainstays on the psych-rock circuit of the late 70s and early 80s, selling more than 14 million albums worldwide. The first track off their self-titled 1972 album, “Transmaniacon MC,” and one of the group’s most popular tracks, “Godzilla,” (from their fifth album released in 1977, Spectres) are both heading to the Rock Band Music Store next week.
Also included in next week’s update are tracks from 70s space rock group Hawkwind (“Master of the Universe” from 1971’s In Search of Space), former Canadian alternative rock band I Mother Earth (“Levitate” from their 1993 debut Dig), iconic heavy metal rockers Motörhead (“Killed by Death ’08,” re-recorded from 1984’s No Remorse), classic Scottish rockers Nazareth (“Hair of the Dog”, re-recorded from their classic 1974 single) and American rockers Rage Against the Machine (“Bulls on Parade” from their 1996 album, Evil Empire).
Available on Xbox 360 and Wii (Jan. 26) and PlayStation 3 system (Jan. 28):

• Blue Öyster Cult – “Godzilla”
• Blue Öyster Cult – “Transmaniacon MC”
• Hawkwind – “Master of the Universe”
• I Mother Earth – “Levitate”
• Motörhead – “Killed by Death '08”
• Nazareth – “Hair of the Dog” (2008 re-recording)
• Rage Against the Machine – “Bulls on Parade”

(All tracks are original master recordings)
These tracks will be available for purchase as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and on Wii on Jan. 26. These tracks will be available Jan. 28 for PlayStation 3.

Price: $1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) per track
$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per track
** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Well, there's another unfortunate lack of variety this week, but on the plus side the release of the last of the country pack exclusives means that all the outstanding track pack exclusives (both Country and Metal) are out, so I've deleted those items from the Special Announcements section in the OP.

Hey gang,

Sorry for the slightly late DLC announcement this week. TGIF! The 6 tracks hitting Rock Band next week will be the remaining temporary exclusives from the Country Track Pack, finally available for download. We got a lot of questions about these songs when we released the last Country DLC pack, so we know there's lots of folks that will be excited for these songs. And for those of you looking for something else, rest assured that we'll have more songs to announce next week to add to the 1,000+ song library of material available in Rock Band!

Available on Xbox 360 and Wii (Feb. 2) and PlayStation 3 system (Feb. 4):

Kenny Chesney – “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy”
Montgomery Gentry – “Gone”
Rascal Flatts – “Me and My Gang”
Sara Evans – “Suds in the Bucket”
Trace Adkins – “Swing”
Willie Nelson – “On the Road Again”

(All tracks are original master recordings)

These tracks will be available for purchase as “Going Country Pack 03,” as well as individual tracks on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 system, and as individual tracks only on Wii.

Price:
$1.99 USD, £.99 UK, €1.49 EU (160 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) per track

$9.99, £4.99 UK, €7.99 EU (800 Microsoft Points for Xbox 360) for “Going Country Pack 03”

$2.00 USD (200 Wii Points™) per track

** Dates for Rock Band game tracks are tentative and subject to change. **

Well, at least last weeks RB-DLC had some good songs. Still waiting for more good-ol-classic rock.

One of the Harmonix developers posted a tweet that indicates an album is coming soon as Rock Band DLC. That's not much info, but I thought it was interesting, since it's been quite a while since we've seen a full album as DLC.

One of my all-time favorite albums comes to Rock Band soon. The many adolescent hours I spent studying its drum parts have finally paid off.

Big news today that will make some heavy metal fans happy - the previously rumored full album DLC will be "Rust In Peace" by Megadeth coming next week. Also, there will be an unusual "out of cycle" DLC release as a mashup song from The Who's Superbowl performance will be available immediately after the superbowl.

Rust In Peace is confirmed in the Harmonix 'Zine, but they don't have a forum announcement out yet, so I'll link to this Kotaku article:

Megadeth's Rust In Peace Hits Rock Band Store Next Week

The Who Super Bowl S-Mashup Explodes onto Rock Band!

Rolling Stone has announced a sneak peek at next week's Rock Band DLC - famous soul singer Otis Redding. I think that's a pretty cool bit of variety, I'll probably at least get Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay.

Songs by soul great Otis Redding are coming to Rock Band next week. Original master recordings of “(Sittin’ On) The Dock of the Bay,” “Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa-Fa (Sad Song),” “I’m Sick Y’all,” “I’ve Got Dreams to Remember” and “Love Man” will be available as a track pack or individual songs for Xbox 360 and PS3, and individual tracks for Wii.

No word on whether or not there will be additional tracks beyond the Otis Redding offering.

Otis Redding – “Love Man”
All Time Low – “Weightless”
Alphabeat –“Fascination” +

Since the first appearance of Jimi Hendrix in Lego Rock Band ("Fire"), people have been wondering when more Jimi might be coming to Rock Band. There's an interesting tidbit in this LA Times article on Hendrix:

They'll be issued under a long-term contract that Janie Hendrix signed last year with Sony Music after the 12 years that Universal Music handled all Hendrix releases. At the time the deal was completed, Sony vowed to make his music "available through every type of media" -- including a new edition of Rock Band that Janie Hendrix says should appear before the end of this year.

Now, given the vagaries of journalism, this could mean anything from upcoming Hendrix DLC for Rock Band, to Hendrix song(s) appearing on disc in Rock Band 3, to a full blown Jimi Hendrix Rock Band (ala The Beatles, but hopefully exportable since Fire was).

Here's another interesting rumor that I'd love to see happen - Whitesnake! According to these answers from David Coverdale:

Q... Have you ever thought of sanctioning the inclusion of a Whitesnake song on Guitar Hero /Rock Band etc?

DC... Yes... I recently approved a couple of songs, 'Here I Go Again' & 'Still Of The Night' for inclusion in both games... I can't remember which one, tho'... you shall have to wait & see... Sorry it took so long...

The "I can't remember which one part" is confusing though, since it says they were approved for both games.

Thanks for keeping up with this. I check it every week.

You're welcome. I appreciate the feedback - it's hard to tell if anybody reads this, except for the occasional post bitching about the song choices. :)
