Being an ass to your teachers is not smart. Respect will get him farther than that, and the awesome thing about respect is that it doesn't require you to believe anything.

I think he was trying to understand something and the teacher kept telling him stories. His parents are nice people and they make him read a lot. I guess he saw BS and called it for what it was.

I call BS on that. Do you have kids? I know when my son was 10 years old, the teacher could have told him that the sky was red and that peas came from cows and he wouldn't have said a word. Let alone telling the teacher to go fuck himself.

The kid is innocent. His parents or whoever taught him to act like that are douches. End of story.

You created the thread, asshole.

Fixed for you, as you should be.

He is not thinking for himself. He did not come up with that phrase on his own.

Well I meant it kinda tongue-in-cheek. It's obvious that filling his head up with stuff like that would set him at odds with his teachers. Why would anyone do that? All it does is make his life harder without him even fully understanding why.

The part I don't understand is that his parent (or someone) had to pay for him to go to that school. Why send him there if that's how they feel? Unless its a split parent situation and one parent is against the church and one is for?

I just hate seeing kids spew hate that early. It really says something for the situation they are growing up in.

I guess the lesson that needs to be taught is that of respecting your elders. It seems like his parents are doing a fine job of that.

I wonder where your nephew will be in 5 years. Juvenile hall?

Elders feeding him bullshit is not acceptable (to him, apparently).

So why is he in this Jewish school? If his parents don't believe, why did they put him in there? Take yourself out of the equation for a minute BTW.

His parents are both psychiaterists. They aren't religious but they wanted him to learn Hebrew and Jewish history.

Put aside some bail money for the future.

ETA - It sounds like his parents aren't that bright. They're not raising their child to have much self control either.

I'm not sure how long a person can take being indoctrinated with BS. I fell out with the religious nuts when I was 8 or 9 years old. I didn't curse them out but I just stopped attending.

People, even children, can question the beliefs of others without resorting to rudeness. Your nephew hasn't learned respect, and it seems that you haven't either.

Exactly. God forbid the kid think for himself and seeks the truth or at least an explanation besides, "this books says it happened, so it happened."

*EDIT* I agree his parents suck, though.

even if you disagree, the correct response is not "Go fuck yourself" when you're 10yo

Agreed. This is why his parents suck... kids don't just come up with this kinda stuff.

I can't tell who's the smartest in that family. The nephew, his parents (Yale, Harvard; NYU, Harvard), or the OP (Princeton, Columbia).

I think we'll be OK;)

Just because you or they have a degree doesn't make you or them decent, respectful, or smart. ;)

His parents have had ample time to instill values. Regardless of what he picks up from TV, movies, classmates, etc. he should know by now that that is not acceptable behavior.

Again, his parents are decent folks. But the kid has a mind of his own. If you want to fault his parents for everything he knows and says go ahead...

It would appear that they haven't done a great job of passing that decency onto their kid...

To be honest, he's like his father. He's a very good guy and soft-spoken, but you don't want to get on his bad side. I remember one time he and I were at the grocery store and he was about to pay but was on the phone talking. The lady behind us made a terse statement and he proceeded to call her many names, including wise and beautiful woman. She grew red like the Santa Claus in the window. I couldn't stop laughing.
