This is a good plan and all mjuszczak.....but whats the point of the conference? I think we need to concentrate on that. Yes, it was nice to meet you and your GF at the DC meet last year, but if I'm going to be spending $500+ for a long weekend, there should be something to do (besides drinking and Neffing).

Agreed. Do you want to discuss something? Should we pick a theme? Honestly, we're also hopefully gonna have a softball game, football game, etc. I'd even think of having someone put together a city-wide scavenger hunt or something that's tech/geek based. But sure, we can have a point too. Discuss something. Perhaps top debated discussions on AT.

BAD ASS!

I found the cartwheel highly necessary. Also, is it legal to run across the table, or is this the Harlem Globetrotters of the Chinese ping-pong circuit?

Hmm...count me in.

Why not in Rosemont (right by O'Hare)?

I don't drink, so either it'd be the stupid root beer idea or bust for me; I'm also not down for having to pay for beer pong I won't be playing :p

This is the kind of dude that probably plays beer pong equally well. He makes the rules up as he goes.

If the ping pong ref blew his whistle at him, it would be the last time he did.

Rosemont is closer to public transportation to get into the city, but damn that area SUCKS! I hate it there (wife's family is from that area). You need a car to get around there too.
Schaumburg at least has a plethora of restaurants to go to and a lot more to do.

If you can't stay in the city, the Schaumburg area isn't too bad. There are some train stations not too far away to get down to the city (about a 40m ride).

Seriously, I think sports would really alienate more of the people here than bring them together. I'd be one that would love a game of football, but I am sure I'd just mess up some poor dude that didn't think about momentum and how colliding bodies work :)

I don't have a lot of experience with what is bound to be sausage-based. I have traveled for some more 'dating' forums meets.

Usually the hotel that is booked is one that has $75 rooms and higher level...usually there has been a hotel 'around' the area that was more bargain bin. The meets are usually pool side.

It's usually a Friday night come and Sunday night leave deal, the very best I have been too have been long weekends where it was a Thursday arrive-sunday leave or friday arrive - monday leave. The longer ones usually fizzled due to most not being able to stay longer.

For the popular 2 nights/ 2 days:
Friday night is a mixer at the hotel lounge...sometimes the hotel extends a first drink 'free' deal.

Saturday is usually a start of some sort of pool side/beach side gathering and a BBQ/BYOB...usually volleyball and can sometimes be girl vs guy flag football (which usually someone does end up hurt :(...usually some dude pounding a chick into the pavement while trying to relive his high school / college days). There is usually some kind of silly raffle and little people trick shows.

At night there is usually a planned dinner with music/dancing and areas for discussion available in a more public place where others are around too. Sometimes a small group(s) form and go out on the town/site-seeing. Sort of defeats the 'meet' purpose though.

Usually the night ends in debauchery and some private room parties ranging anywhere from naked hot tubbing/groupsex to trivial pursuit all night. I was even at one where a Mario Kart championship was done (I think it was Mario Kart anyway, i wasn't in that room).

It's been most fun when they were able to get a full floor or section. Most just kept their doors open and people mingled.

Sunday morning is a planned gathering again with people wandering down/leaving at random times depending on the night before and when they have to be home.

Again it's been mixed heavily in my experience, but I have met some pretty lasting acquaintances / memories through these events.

Read above. We're looking into Rosemont.

No one will be "paying" to play Beer Pong. We'll have an activity fee which would cover the beer AND the root beer AND other drinks AND chips, etc. The Beer Pong part is sponsored and won't cost anything.

This sounds good. Like I said, I'm trying to get everyone in the same hotel, on the same floor, AND have a conference room in the hotel. My mom can pull that off, but I really need to get more of a count of how many people are going, etc.

i'd not focus on conference room. I'd never travel for a gathering in a conference room.

Terrible idea.

I guess I might be in for a Chicago meet, but not to just play beer pong with strangers in a hotel lobby.

I was just joking.

But if I go to Chicago, I AM going to a ball game. Period.

maybe we could book a group tour throughour the city, and then end the day with some heaving drinking, bowling, and strip joint for good measure.

Well if a Sox game will do, I'll organize that part. There is one small bar near the park that is a classic Sox bar. Not much else in the area.

The beer pong is only one event - an ICE breaker if you will. It is by NO means going to be the main event.

I'd be up for it.

I'm leaning towards Thursday the 13th - Sunday the 16th of August. I'll start a poll.

It would be interesting to go, but I can't commit to anything at the moment as I don't know where I'll be next summer. I might just keep working in the same biological chemistry lab I'm currently in at school, which would make it very easy to get somewhere else in Chicago.
