I'll beat the crap out of you all!!!

Actually probably not because we didn't have a team this summer and I got no practice at all.

Let me know when you beat that.

I have before. I say we just bowl when I come out there. :) Though I'm not going to get cocky. I average about 180, highest game is 271, forget my highest series but it's in the 600's.

My highest game is a 288, current average 184 :p

I'm always up for bowling whenever you're out here.

Damned Chicago people....skewing the poll.

I think it would be hard to get enough oxygen to the brain with your head in the clouds :p

yeah, imagine all of the geeky, sun-starved, basement dwellers of AT showing up in CO. Not enough oxygen to fill those cheese puff-clogged arteries.

Don't get me wrong, I love CO. I'd make every effort if this meeting were taking some place in Summit county and trips to A-Basin were planned...but that ain't gonna happen.

Fine with me, as long as I don't have to touch anything.

I love Chicago! I visit the place at least twice a year anyways, so hopefully I won't be overseas due to work at the time.

I am not far from Chicago and would be glad to help out in any way I can.

What would we do though? Just rent a big ball room and sit around? Why not set up something really interesting? We could set up a LAN party style area, a general area, a buffet, of course a bar...maybe get AT to pitch in a few door prizes?

Or here is my brainstorm. We could set up a general fund to pay for the venue, prizes, food, etc. and have people pitch in what they can. If people are generous enough, we might even be able to fly some less fortunate members in who couldn't afford to do so on their own!

Thats my 2 pennies

I was going to setup an amazon donation fund as it got closer. I was in talks with others via PM about what we would do - and yes, staying in a single hotel would most likely be beneficial. My mother is a travel agent, has a lot of relationships in Chicago, and could probably negotiate a meeting room for free if enough people were staying along with a good rate. But I'm only offering that, it isn't required.

We can all book our own method of travel - I doubt I'd want to be responsible for everyone's airfare. But once we had a head count, I could get a rate for the hotel per night that would include the meeting room. But yes, I agree with you. A LAN style party area, having a catering company come in, and a few door prizes from AT would be quite nice. All of this is stuff that needs to be planned, which is why I've allowed up to 9 months for it to happen -- I don't want this to be half-assed. I'm expecting at least 50-100+ members, hopefully more, and I think we could gain that much interest.

After the location and dates are decided on, I'll make a poll about people's budgets and general interest. Then, I'll be setting up a website with an information form so people can perhaps anonymously post their interest and what they can afford.

don't forget the "Hello, My name is"

Also, from my mother, the travel agent:

HI
So far, all the rates I am getting are over $200 per nt.
The best so far is the Chicago Marriott in Schamburg. It is $114 plus tax per nt for the room, and $250 per day for the conference room. If we get any meals, we might be able to negotiate the conference room charge. Problem: the only way to get to the htl is taxi or rental car. No subway, etc. And the htls in Chicago or near the arpt are all over $200 per nt. Waiting to hear from a few more.
mom

So we'll need to decide soon if we're all staying at the same hotel, or just going to rent a conference room with meals at a center.

Also:

My friend is owner and manager of BPONG, LLC (http://www.bpong.com) based out of Chicago. He said his company would be glad to sponsor the event by contributing Beer Pong tables for the day and running a Beer Pong Series Competition for those interested in playing (Bracket-based Beer Pong). Thought this would be one of many fun activities we could have at nef-con. I'm adding a poll to ask those who are going IF they would be interested in partaking in this event.

Schaumburg /= Chicago. Not by a long shot.

Why not schedule the meet for Branson, Missouri?

If it was up there, I would give people free trips on a 4x4 trail or something.

Right. It was just an idea. The meeting is occurring in the Chicago area - we've already decided that. I'm gathering hotel prices now, but my mother (a travel agent) was able to find the cheapest conference room and rooms there in Schaumburg - doesn't mean we have to go with it.

I'm just saying is all. The problem, like you've seen, is that hotels in the city will be expensive. and the problem with a place like Schaumburg is that it's not convenient to either airport or CTA.

What about Rosemont? or one of those areas b/w O'Hare and Chicago. lots of hotels along the way, and CTA accessible.

Either way, my chances of making it are 1.6% right now. Sucks; if I still lived there I'd be willing to host. Though, I'll probably contribute to the Platypus gin fund. It's the only way to keep him tolerable. :p

My mom says she is still waiting to hear back from a hotel in Rosemont, but that's a possibility as well. I'll keep everyone updated.
