Hmm, that seems like a decent idea. I just tried out Battlefront on the 560ti and it was working fine at 1080p... but upgrading both might be nice. What are the specifics of the cards Teizo? And what is your location? I'm Texas.

North Carolina. They both are MSI GTX Gaming 760s with the Twin Frozer IV cooler.

I can assure you they are both in good shape. Shoot me a pm with your email address and I'll link the pics of the cards. If you want them, hopefully I can figure everything out for you and get them to you ASAP.

I will ship them out today. Glad the right opportunity came up.

When I played the Battlefront Beta with one of those cards (not in SLI), the single 760 delivered 50+ fps on Ultra settings. The game is optimized very well and the frame rates were smooth and playable. I hope your kids enjoy them as much as I did while I had them.

I need a recommendation for a video card for my son's computer OR upgrade my vid card and give him mine. Here are our Rigs:

Dad: GTX 770, i5-4670K, 16gb, 1920x1200
Son 1: GTX 560 ti, i7-870 @ 2.93, 8gb, 1080p
Son 2: GTX 275, G3258 @4.4ghz, 8gb, 1680x1050

I'm trying to install Star Wars Battlefront on all 3 computers for christmas. But the game won't even run because it says the driver for GTX 275 won't work. So I can either upgrade the GTX 275 for my son....or I can upgrade my GTX 770 (which I am happy with) and give him my 770.

I need the card right away and most likely will be a newegg.com purchase. Thanks in advance!

Upgrade the CPU on the G3258 system because the game will be unplayble on the dual core CPU even if you upgrade the GPU.

And dont even bother with a Core i3 for that game, you will need at least a core i5.

GTX 960 for $200-250 if you prefer nvidia.

If he (or you ;) ) has any interest in playing Fallout 4 it should run it at very high or ultra at 16 x 10. My 2 GB GTX 680 is comparable and ran FO4 at 19x12 very high settings with some slowdowns in the rain.
the worst advice, the equivalent of telling op to buy trash.

I agree about the 380x at $200 being the sweet spot....but I really have concerns about the AMD support. I'm not a fanboy or anything of either team, but the nvidia drivers have a long track record in my house of being excellent. Looking at the AMD subforum, people are complaining about drivers....ugh.

Not to take away anything from my recommendation to get both of those 760s, but AMD's competitors to your 560Ti and 770 aged MUCH better than your cards because of AMD's better driver support and raw GPU horsepower. Also, for SW:BF, AMD is beating NV in all price brackets with modern cards, besides NV's excellent 980Ti/Titan X.

http://forums.anandtech.com/showpost.php?p=37903796&postcount=26

For the future, you should do more research as you have it backwards. NV cards perform great at launch, AMD driver support is better long term and AMD's cards age better.

Anyway, those after market 760s are an excellent upgrade for the price to satisfy both sons. At some point you'll have to upgrade all 3 cards due to 2GB VRAM limitations.

I wouldn't recommend using that 560 Ti for any modern game unless you don't think they'll notice the difference between low/high settings. Get yourself a GTX 970 and get one of your sons a GTX 960 which should be roughly as fast as the other's 770.

---I just have only used nvidia for a lot of generations so it's hard to know what AMD is like. Thanks for the input and I think the 380X was going to be my path if I hadn't received the offer for the two 760s. Since my first post, I've done some educating, like I said, I wasn't in the market for a new vid card until I tried to run BF and kaput.

---- yes, I think you are right, they will be good for a little bit but will need replacement also....we'll see what kind of games they play going forward...we haven't let them play any more grown up game until this star wars game....

Why do some people keep recommending this turd of a card especially when the OP can get a 760 for less than half price of a 960? You do realize that a $150+ 960 is just 11-13% faster than the 760? For new cards, 960 loses to the R9 380/380X in SW:BF and 970 loses against 390. The deal the OP is getting for 760s is excellent since it's akin to getting performance similar to buying 2x 960s for less than the price of one of those. This seems like a great stop-gap upgrade before he can do a much more extensive CPU upgrade for his son's rigs. It also gives him a chance to wait out until 16nm cards and get something much better than the September 2014 970 that to this date still sells for almost the same price it debuted at making less than an ideal $300 upgrade in the context of the technology curve if his 770 satisfies his expectations already.

Ya, if you have a microcenter or Fry's near you, at some point you can upgrade the G3258 to an i5/i7 K series CPU. BTW, for your son's #1 rig, you should overclock the i7 870 if you can.

A 380 4GB and 390 would definitely be better, but you know as well as I do some people insist on having nVidia only. If the OP is willing to go with AMD equivalents however (he currently has all nVidia) then that would be excellent.

Ok, currently the 870 is running at stock, so that will be my next project. We havent had any problems with any games on the G3258 yet. It's overclocked to a good speed. But when we hit a wall, that will be the next step.

Great input guys, really appreciate all of it. The 380x seems like a great deal and I certainly would be ordering one right now, but the two 760s was hard to pass on.....and gives both of my sons a good card for a while I hope.

I think they will. Those 760s are even capable of 770 (like) performance at the settings I mentioned to you so they have a bit of life in them yet I think @ 1080p and 1050p.

I'm glad I was able to help.

And thank you guys for the kind comments. It was a good situation for both us.

They're 7 and 9 and play Minecraft and Age of Empires. I think they'll be fine with a $130 upgrade for the two of them, rather than spending $400 on a pair of 960s.

...Just for your info, that game is rated T, quite competitive and doesn't have a particularly welcoming community. I have my doubts that your two sons will get much enjoyment out of it if they are not into those kind of shooters.

Get them each a 980TI and 1440p monitor. I'll sell you mine for $850 each. I'm a good guy too you know, like that Teizo guy but better.

I know it's not a perfect game, but right now they have Star Wars fever and there is no talking them out of it. I will disable chat and the audio chat as well because I know people can be rather rude in those games. I'm disappointed that there isn't more local coop like a campaign with the game. Pretty lame, from what I read it's just online multi for the most part. I'm hoping the three of us can play on our own server with bots?? I actually was going to get a PS4 bundle with SW Battlefront but there isn't much coop options at all from what I read so that ruled out PS4....

Teizo sent out the cards within a few hours of us talking!! They should be here Monday - plenty of time for the christmas surprise. Thanks again Teizo!

There is a two-player survival mode kind of thing. Girlfriend and I enjoyed the one map that was offered during the beta. Basically, survive a wave of storm troopers and capture objectives.
