I need a recommendation for a video card for my son's computer OR upgrade my vid card and give him mine. Here are our Rigs:

Dad: GTX 770, i5-4670K, 16gb, 1920x1200
Son 1: GTX 560 ti, i7-870 @ 2.93, 8gb, 1080p
Son 2: GTX 275, G3258 @4.4ghz, 8gb, 1680x1050

I'm trying to install Star Wars Battlefront on all 3 computers for christmas. But the game won't even run because it says the driver for GTX 275 won't work. So I can either upgrade the GTX 275 for my son....or I can upgrade my GTX 770 (which I am happy with) and give him my 770.

I need the card right away and most likely will be a newegg.com purchase. Thanks in advance!

GTX 960 for $200-250 if you prefer nvidia.

If he (or you ;) ) has any interest in playing Fallout 4 it should run it at very high or ultra at 16 x 10. My 2 GB GTX 680 is comparable and ran FO4 at 19x12 very high settings with some slowdowns in the rain.

I guess I have two options........
1. Give him my 770 and I get a new card that is a step up from 770...~$$250+
2. Just get him a good card for around $150 and then upgrade my card later so I can give the 770 to my son with 560ti.

They are 7 and 9 years old, mostly play minecraft, diablo, age of empires, so graphics haven't been an issue until this star wars game.

I'm temtped to use this as an upgrade for me, but the 770 works fine for me so far at 1200p.

I have always preferred nvidia....drivers....but it seems like radeon is better right now? I haven't been following stuff at all lately and now need this card right away for xmas.

All of the cards are so similiar (ie..7 diff versions of evga 970x on newegg)....that I don't want to rush and make a purchase mistake. So i really need your help.

Honestly, get yourself a 970 (since you seem to prefer NV), give son 1 the 770 and then give son 2 the 560 Ti :)

If I want to upgrade Son 1 and give Son 2 the 560 ti....does this Asus GTX 950 2gb look good at newegg, $139 after rebate?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121980&ignorebbr=1

or the 3gb 280x poofyhairguy recommended above for $180 after rebate look better??

If I want to upgrade my 770, is this one best? For $200 seems like better deal??

Budget?

Best deal under $300 is this 380x

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...-na-_-na&cm_sp=&AID=10446076&PID=3938566&SID=

(I would get it for myself and pass the 770)

edit: Next step up in performance is a 390 or 970 which are both around $300. They are a decent step up from the 380x, but at a 50% price premium.

Honestly with new games (especially battlefront) I could see 2GB VRAM being an issue. I usually pass 2GB with my 1080p screen, and the 280x usually matches a 770.

How about two 760s for $130 total? Give one to each?

I've never sold anything ebay, but I do have a pay pal account and I can ship both cards to you if we can work out the details.

I used them for 2 years, but they are in perfect working order. Look brand new for the most part other than a little slight dust build up, but I cleaned them thoroughly before I boxed them back up in their original packaging. I had them in SLI.

Hmm, that seems like a decent idea. I just tried out Battlefront on the 560ti and it was working fine at 1080p... but upgrading both might be nice. What are the specifics of the cards Teizo? And what is your location? I'm Texas.

That is a good deal since it makes both sons happy. You can then sell 560Ti+275 for $30-40 in total, making this a very cheap upgrade for your sons.

Otherwise, the R9 380X for $200 and passing on your card down is the next recommendation.

I agree about the 380x at $200 being the sweet spot....but I really have concerns about the AMD support. I'm not a fanboy or anything of either team, but the nvidia drivers have a long track record in my house of being excellent. Looking at the AMD subforum, people are complaining about drivers....ugh.
