Well the first logical thing to try is a different pair of headphones.

I've heard that some of the iPod's kill their headphones (I believe it was the gen 5 and the right side that it had killed)...

Anyways, try another pair of headphones.

If you're still having problems, you'll have to go to the apple store. Depending on how long you've had the ipod, you may have to pay $29.95 for service (after the first 6 months from purchase due to shipping and handling fees)

tried the standard white earbuds (actually unopened until today), some sony studio headphones, and some philips headphones. the philips headphones were still dead, as thats the reason for my current headphones, the sony street style ones. the sony studio headphones have the same problem, the left side only works, and the same with the ipod buds.

i dont think my headphones would crap out on me and its weird that some 5G ipods kill the right ear of headphones. i will try the headphones in other sources and get back to you.

crap...looks like ill have to pay 30 bucks. oh well...i guess thats apple for ya.

thanks for the help!

Hi, I have a iPod touch sensitive version with the four buttons on top of the scroll wheel. EVerytime I try and hook up my ipod to the computer that I have or any computer that I can get my hands on, the ipod shows me the "apple" logo and then immediately shuts off without letting me update it. I have tried to reset the iPod and all that, but none of it works...what the hell do I do???

Doesn't sound like anything serious, and as long as it still works there's probably nothing to worry about.

There are many quircks and oddities found in the iPod minis

Well first off it's a 3rd gen ipod. There are a number of possible reasons it's doing this. First off what cord are you using with the computers you're plugging the ipod into?

If it's a firewire cord then there's some other issues, if it's a USB cord 3rd gen ipods cannot be charged via USB and therefore it's not getting any power and dies shortly after the apple logo shows up.

Otherwise, it sounds like it's either a mobo issue or hard drive issue. Can you get it into the diagnostic mode? (reset the ipod by holding down menu & play, and then when the apple logo comes up quickly hold down the previous next & select buttons at the same time. The screen will go blank and then let go of the buttons and the backlight will come on and a menu will come up.) If you can get into the diagnostic mode try running a HDD Scan. Make sure the ipod is plugged into a wall outlet and let it be (it takes a while, 20 to 30 minutes depending on the size of the hard drive in it).

Try some of those issues, otherwise if you want to you can send it to me and I can try diagnosing it.

I was using a USB cord :p, I was using my friends new USB cord. So, I should try and using what kind of cord which would probably be able to fix it...?

You need a firewire cord or a 2 in one cord from apple (You can buy them at Target as well)

The 2 in one cord has both firewire and usb connectors. The firewire cord goes into a firewire wall charging unit and the usb connection goes to the computer.

Why don't you have the cord for it anymore if I might ask?

When I was moving from house at school I lost so much stuff, i stuffed all the cords I thought I had into one box and I cannot find it anywhere... I didn't think there would be any difference between using the USB cord...me moron. Does the 2-in-1 firewire thing have the wall charging unit with it?...Can you just link me to everything that im supposed to have...and I'll go pick it up at Target today if they have it... :D

so, is it possible? anyway to modify an existing EQ setting?
Sorry about not answering your question. I know I read it and I thought I posted an answer to it but it must have slipped my mind.

As far as I'm aware there is no way to add an EQ or is there any way to modify any of them.

Personally you're better off just leaving the EQ turned off especially if you have a first gen ipod mini (since using the EQ requires more processing power and wastes away the battery a lot faster).

I have a 4 gig ipod mini (I believe the second run of mini, with the longer battery life) which has recently started fritzing out after charging. I can charge it all night and then go to play some music and it will say "no battery power remains" and shut off. I can restart it a few times and then the battery meter will be full and it will play fine. It also happens midway through playback. I can be listening to music for 2 hours and it will suddenly say "no battery power remains" even though ~1/2 power is left and shut down. I can restart a few times and all is well again. It is getting annoying and I am out of my 1 year warranty period. Im not sure a new battery is the answer since this one seems to hold a charge, just becomes fritzed out at apparently random intervals.

Could be either the battery or the motherboard...

iPod's and especially ipod mini's are VERY VERY quirky. Trust me, I've worked on at least 20 of them easily and every single one has had a new problem that baffles me.

My first suggestion would be to replace the battery. I believe somewhere in this thread I posted a video on how to replace the ipod mini battery. Make sure you watch it before you replace the battery.

thanks for the reply. I thought about replacing the battery but it seems as though it still charges nicely, its just that the ipod "sees" it as dead randomly. Not sure, just my impression. I may gamble on a battery replacement.

Well, the only reason I say try a replacement battery is because with almost all replacement batteries they come with tools that allow you to get your ipod open without ruining it. If you can tear it apart and verify that there is a good connection with the battery then you may as well try the other battery.

It's a gamble but most ipod batteries off of ebay are only like $15, so the most you'd be out is $15 if you tried.

I have a color ipod from HP that went bad on me. It would startup, the lcd would turn on and show a white screen, then it would shutoff. It wouldn't even show the apple logo, or appear to the ipod updater while plugged in. I couldn't get it to work at all, not even in disk mode. I sent it back to HP to fix, as it's under warantee, but what do you think might have caused the problem?

Fascinating, go find a fvcking Zen Vision thread and be "proud" there, troll :|

My sister's iPod Nano will sometimes refuse to shut off, from the menu or by holding play. Everything else works, save for making it "sleep". The only way to fix it is resetting it or syncing it. Is there anyway to fix it?

Probably the mobo or else it got water damage or some form of damage that would hurt the lcd, mobo & hard drive...

Definitely something was seriously wrong with it...

Does it have the newest software on it? Perhaps backing up your music and restoring it is in order.

I'm going to once again bump this thread because the other thread that helped people out as well got locked.

I am in no way soliciting my services in this thread, I'm only offering my help.
