Basically, if you're not an anarchist, you're a big government conservative.
As you are someone who wants government to regulate a woman's body with regard to abortion I don't expect you to understand the hypocrisy of claiming to be for small government while seeking to expand it.

How many more GOP officials do we need on the record saying that these laws are made to keep Democrats from voting until we can all just admit that's the purpose?

These endless justifications are silly. We require ID when people purchase alcohol because there is shitloads of evidence that people try to buy alcohol who are not legally permitted to do so. As we have gone over time and again, there is no evidence that meaningful numbers of people engage in in-person voter fraud, which is the only type of election fraud that voter ID would prevent.

Why supposed small government conservatives wish to create additional government regulation despite a complete lack of evidence for its necessity is ideologically incoherent. The only reason it makes sense is if the purpose is to win elections.

Right. Because you have to be in favor of big government to think the government should criminalize murder.

And I don't want to regulate her body. I want to regulate her ability to kill people, just as I want similar regulations to apply to myself.

I don't think there's anything insidious or unreasonable in asking someone to prove their identity to vote.

That's one of the things I don't understand here. Every time I vote, I have to show ID. Are there places where you just walk in and vote, making up any name you want?

You would like to create an additional check on voting that will prevent some legally entitled voters from voting. This, I believe, is undeniable.

All I'm asking for you to do is provide a rational, objective, empirical justification for doing it. Not emotionally how you feel about it, but facts. Why do you believe undertaking this action is necessary, what objective are you attempting to accomplish, and why is preventing some legal voters from voting is a worthwhile price to pay to achieve this objective? Again, factual evidence.

I don't think those are unreasonable questions to ask.

How lucky for you that your decision to kill "people" will never have an effect on your health and well being.

I don't think there is anything insidious in asking that all US citizens prove their identity in order to not get shipped out of the country immediately. I am a meat popsicle.

The problem with I.D. law is that it's solving a problem that doesn't exist. Voter fraud is such a small issue (In the video the guy admits it's like 1 or 2 votes) that by having and I.D. law you end up suppressing people who would otherwise have voted. Not to mention all the other extra garbage restriction they tack on to the bill.

You do realize that problems "exist" only if they are caught, right? :awe:

Dang, Ashley Banfield just called out Don Yelton at the end of her show, "Legal View".

She was doing a piece about him getting fired, and said that last year he posted on his Facebook that she was a "Loudmouth bitch".

What an idiot. You don't go on a national television show and talk about that. That hurts the whole brand. He was fired and I could not agree more with the result.

On the other hand, he may have actually been a liberal spy all along who set out for the sole purpose of making conservatives look bad.

As a NC'er, I was facepalming my way through this interview last night about NC's new voting bill. It appears that some GOP'er felt the same way because he is now out of a job.

WRAL story (video in the link):

http://www.wral.com/gop-official-fired-after-daily-show-flap-/13034190/

For those that don't want to watch the whole video:

Email from the NCGOP:

I watched this and kept thinking, is this real?? Sure as shit this was a real interview that this guy agreed to with the Daily Show. Unfucking believable!

I am glad he got fired, but he is just one of many many many out there who think exactly like this. The true face of the GOP right here in this interview.

Now Texas strict new voter ID law is looking to eliminate women voters. For all those women who divorced and didn't update their ID to reflect the change are going to find out at voting time they cannot vote. Just like this Judge who was almost blocked from being able to vote: Texas Judge almost blocked from voting due to new voter ID law

All the GOP is doing is shooting themselves in the foot big time. This is even impacting all their female republican voters.

In the past some odd 5 years there has only been 4 documented cases of voter fraud in Texas.

The GOP wants the return to the days where only white male landowners get to vote.

This interview basically summed up the real reason for the Voter ID, and we all know it. Was just nice to see a GOP official admit it :)

This thread should be sickied and whenever a racist voter id law question ***es up just link back.

There have been other Republican officials who have admitted voter id laws and not about stopping fraud but stopping Democratic voters.

We can add their quotes to the thread as well.

There is a valid argument in there though, do you really want people too stupid or lazy to register before hand to pick your government?

Aww man, the truth is out. We kept everyone quiet except except some knucklehead County Republican from NC. Damn, we almost got away with it.

Do i want shit-for-brains conservatives who think the earth is 6000 years old, evolution is a lie, and global warming is a myth to vote? No, but you don't see me advocating taking away their right to vote, despite the fact that they're fucking retarded.

You cannot see the difference in having a deadline to register versus arbitrarily saying a specific group shouldn't vote?
