Does he rank still as a top 10 player? top 20?

here's the thing, he doesn't score that much and he didn't score that much in NJ recent 14-0 streak but he does add significantly to the wins, via he rebounding and his assists.

is that enough to make him a great player?

how does he rank vs Magic Johnson, John Stocton and Isaiah Thomas, 3 of the best point guards in recent history not currently active.

I think he's one of the best 3 point guards still playing, should get into the Hall of Fame when all is said and done.

I'd have to say that Kidd ranks 4th among those players you named.

He adds an X factor... it is the rebouding and the assists. He distributes the ball well, and he sees the floor well. He is a great player, just not an elite player like those you named.

but i'm willing to bet he could be a better GM than Ike. ;)

but ya, i don't see him as being an elite, if he wins a Championship mb i change my opinion.

but not right now.

Anyone could be a better GM than Ike. I'm amazed that he's still alive, quite frankly. NYC can be a brutal place.

Jason Kidd could have joined Tim Duncan and won a couple of championships. That he stayed in New Jersey won't be held against him. He's an amazing point guard. A step above Stockton and Zeke in overall effectiveness.

Jason Kidd is no where near the point guard caliber of John Stockton. Really good player, HOF, ehhhh don't know about that. Streaky offensive player and is a below average defender. He can run a fast break with the best of them, but is not a break down the defense type pg. He doesn't create shots for other players, like a Nash or Iverson. Top 20 player, maybe, but I don't think he's a HOF player.

How many triple doubles does kidd have?

i don't see how you could possibly say there is any question about kidds HOF status.

btw, his D has gotten worse lately but he was a pretty good defensive player for years. he also has a good back to the basket game agains most other PG's in the league.

Are you kidding me? Stockton is like the one of the best pure pg ever. (Magic is a point forward)

Gary Payton in his prime, is a better player than Kidd, and Gary probably can't even crack the top 5 pg ever.

Kidd was quite a good defender until the microfracture knee surgery. He hasn't been the same since. Anyhow, no question: he's going to the HOF for sure.

GP can score when he wants do, play D, and make passes, he has no holes in his game. Can you say that about Kidd? The last couple years of GP's career shouldnt affect his reputation that much, dude is like 37, what do you expect?

GP is more of a shooting guard that happened to play Point. he just isn't the PG overall that Kidd is.

Isaiah Thomas was also more of a shooting guard too, he was known for his scoring just as much as he was for passing.

My $.02, it'd go Magic, Stockton, Oscar Robertson as top 3. Thomas would be maybe 4. 5 and 6 is a tossup between GP and Kidd, unless Kidd wins a championship. Then he gets the nod.

ROFL Below average Defender ?
Kidd is one of the better defenders in the league.
Kidd is a pass first point guard he doesn't have to be an offensive threat. Nets have 3 scoring options now. Carter, Kristic and Jefferson.
He doesn't create shots for other players ?
You obviously never watched JKidd play. He gets his players easy shots and makes everyone on the team better.

Lay off the crack

GP averaged about 23 pts, 9 assists, 5 rebs, 2 steals in his prime years. Steve Francis is a good example of a SG trapped in the PG position, and he only averaged about 6 assists/game over the years.

I agree Kidd is a better passer, but passing is only one of the attribute that a good PG should have. A good pg will take over the game during clutch time, like Isiah Thomas, GP can do that, Kidd couldn't.

actually, longevity is an important factor, if hank aaron had been forced to quit 5 yrs sooner due to injury, no one would remember him as he would just be another 35/100 guy for many years.

it's his longevity that makes him a legend.

same with emmitt smith in football.

I agree with the fact that J-Kidd is among the elite at PG.But I dont know about HOF material. He hasnt won any rings or done anything spetacular in individual achievements to garner the "award".

You can talk all the trash you want. J Kidd is a good player, but he is not a HOF. Hell Kevin Johnson and Tim Hardaway were both better players than Kidd and neither one them are in HOF. Vince Carter has been a tremendous offensive player his entire career. I can't think of one NBA player he has ever played with that he made better. He's a really good player, but a HOF, and in the likes of a Stockton or Magic, I don't even want to sound ignorant, but if you think he's in that class your f'in fool and should turn your attention to NASCAR because you don't know sh!t about B-ball. And I am not trashing Kidd either, because he is tremendous player and has been a top notch player his career, but he's not elite, simple as that. And right now I'll take Nash, Iverson, Billups, Bibby, and Parker over Kidd right now. Clearly Iverson is 2 guard but has run the o with nicely these last two years. And all those players are better offensive players than Kidd as well.

I don't know. Steve Nash is stealing a lot of Kidd's thunder. Crazy passes, crazy layups, deadly three points, Nash just seem to do a notch better than Kidd at everything.

jason kidd is one of the best passers in the league. he has an ok mid-range jumper, and can drive to the hoop.

with that said, i think mike bibby, steve nash, tony parker and terrell brandon, and maybe even sam cassell are(was) better all-around point guards... while their passing skills are not as good as kidd's, they can all shoot better than kidd.
