A piece of plaster came loose and landed on my grandfathers foot. He got a purple heart for it... This man deserves a congresional medal of honor.

Medal of honor, Purple heart, NOTHING MATTERS ANYMORE, this man is now dead, any award he gets will not benefit him, all it is is an attempt to make his family feel some form of pride for the actions of their son. A piece of metal or ribbon or award or whatever should not be required for the family to feel pride, Why are people so damn materialistic This man is dead, and now he has to answer to a higher power, I hope that he died for the righth reason, personally, I think not, because you have to remember that on the other end of the sniper scope is another human being that is fighting for his/her reason whether it be patriotic ones or religious ones, he also has a family and life of his own, and he views the sniper as "evil" just as the sniper views him as "evil" but nonetheless the one who dies for the higher power has a more meaningful death than the one who dies for something materialistic or man-made. <my opinion

This kind of stuff makes me so mad. Why haven't we heard about this yet? This is a disgrace if this happened 2 weeks ago and it's been confirmed and it's just coming about now. I know writers, reporters, and correspondents have to be careful after stuff like the Jessica Lynch story (wasn't that her name?) where stories are highly exaggerated but it sure would be nice to read about some true heroes. It seems like the bloggers and soldier death mongers were the only people who knew about this.... I mean come on.

In the movies one sees a single grenade making huge explosions, sometimes not so huge. So having no idea how powerful a grenade is, it's not intuitive to think that one man jumping on a grenade will shield the blast enough to protect others nearby.

The movies make a grenade explosion seem like a small nuclear detonation. It's done for the OOHH and AAAHH effect.

Bingo. The torso absorbs the blast and reduces the shock of the blast. It also absorbs most of the shrapnel fragments.
