That must be one fvcked up feeling when a grenade comes through the door and bounces off your chest...that would be my first thought I would hope / think also you know your dead,no need to take the others with.

it's pleasing to see that society (as represented by ATOT posters) still respect some forms of self-sacrifice. If this guy had accidently killed himself while e.g., cleaning his gun, or had he committed suicide, we would be hearing "Darwin award!" by now.

If only some of us could be given the opportunity to make a similar sacrifice...

And I mean that in the most respectful and patriotic way possible.

A Navy SEAL sacrificed his life to save his comrades by throwing himself on top of a grenade Iraqi insurgents tossed into their sniper hideout

Undoubtedly a serious personal sacrifice, but then again it was a sniper hideout. Somehow I don't feel sorry for people sniping from hidden positions, or using flame-throwers, or imparting death from low orbit and stuff like that.

He's only a true hero if he goes into the city, shoots all the terrorists (all headshots of course), feeds the starving citizens, and rescues the princess, huh? Why the fuck shouldn't they use snipers?

So the U.S soldiers are not permitted to use the same tactics that sniper insurgents use?

I know it won't happen, but I wish Bush would loose one night of sleep after hearing about this story (and stories like it) I hate the war, but I have nothing for respect and support for our troops over there fighting. Bush is an asshole, and this story is incredibly sad. I can't even begin to say what I'd do in his case, but when they said he never took his eyes off the granade. That is pure heart.

RIP solider, as f*cked up as Bush might be, it's people like you who make me still love this country.

>drew strength from his family and his faith

It would have been more impressive if an atheist had done this. This guy thinks he is going to magical lala land after he dies, so it doesn't really matter to him.

wow i hope you die in a ****ing fire, i really hope hell exists just so you go there. you are the kind of punk that makes me question one of my professions, but its a good thing for you there are more people that show some respect for my dead brothers than disgrace him as you just did. I hope you feel all big and mighty because you tried to bring religion into this you ignorant piece of sh!t. I will go to the grave protecting what you say, but ill tell you how i truly feel before i do it.

He was fighting for his right to believe what he wants to AND for your right to make that stupid comment......

This guy did a good thing, but it doesn't change the fact that he did it while shooting other people and to help his friends keep shooting other people. Everyone else here is just glorifying war and killing. Good job being part of the problem guys.

If this poor guy hadn't been brainwashed by religion to think he was getting a reward for dying, and brainwashed by a culture that calls killers heroes, maybe he would have stood up for what was right and not fought.

You, sir, boil my blood.

Our servicemembers aren't brainwashed killers. The SEAL wasn't a Christian fanatic. He died saving the lives of his team. Sniper hideout, yes. They will probably take out some insurgents before they kill some other mother's son or daughter. The insurgents have zero respect for human life, unlike this SEAL.

Stood up for what is right? Sounds like Petty Officer 2nd Class Michael A. Monsoor was more of a man than you will ever be.

We need to see more of these heroes on the news, they happen every day.

Face it guys.....some men are born to be courageous heroes and others born to be critical cowards.
