Undoubtedly a serious personal sacrifice, but then again it was a sniper hideout. Somehow I don't feel sorry for people sniping from hidden positions, or using flame-throwers, or imparting death from low orbit and stuff like that.

Wow, This is war, go away from this thread troll.

That's Navy Seals for you!! Hoo-ahh! A couple of guys got the MOH for doing this same thing in Vietnam (A medic comes to mind who jumped on one to save the 3 patients he was treating on the battle field under fire), so along with his previous SS he should get it. RIP!

Why don't you learn how difficult being a sniper actually is instead of relying on Counterstrike for your knowledge about warfare? Guys trained as snipers can hit targets at 1000 yards and longer if they're using the right weapon.

Incidentally, the military no longer uses flamethrowers because they aren't terribly effective. We use thermobaric weapons to clear out caves and holes -- much more effective to burst their lungs than to cook them.

It would have been more impressive if an atheist had done this. This guy thinks he is going to magical lala land after he dies, so it doesn't really matter to him.

This guy did a good thing, but it doesn't change the fact that he did it while shooting other people and to help his friends keep shooting other people. Everyone else here is just glorifying war and killing. Good job being part of the problem guys.

If this poor guy hadn't been brainwashed by religion to think he was getting a reward for dying, and brainwashed by a culture that calls killers heroes, maybe he would have stood up for what was right and not fought.

Not going to respond, just quoting for posterity.

Canadian sniper holds the record kill at 2657 yards in 2003. That was with a McMillan Tac-50.

BTW, this is a person i could only wish to be as brave as. He is a hero, a gentlemen, and a obviously awesome person. I hope he is awarded the highest honor he can recieve for his sacrifice.

I got to hear a speaker that was in Vietnam and he did the same thing. However he lived through it.

He was awarded the Medal of Honor.

He was invited to speak to us at Offutt AFB in Nebraska.

I hope that he is awarded the Congressional MOH.

God bless this man. It makes me feel truly small knowing that there are people serving our country who would do things like this.

sad to say but i probably wouldn't have been able to do that, not brave enough. thank god there are people who are.

Wow. This guy is a hero, pure and simple.
Talk about the ultimate sacrifice. Hope he gets the recognition he deserves.

I would be laughing at you, if this wasn't such a serious topic. Instead, you just remind me of the idiocy that remains in the world, and the disrespect that runs wild in some circles.

RIP, this is a shining example of the courage of our heroes fighting for our freedom far from home, and also the freedom of others. Unfortunately, far too many do not appreciate their sacrifice and what it means.

I don't like wars and I don't agree with them on an ideological grounds, but I have a great deal of respect for the soldiers. They are doing something that I don't think I could ever willingly do.

This man is a true hero.

Sad waste of life more than anything else...being killed at the hands of an enemy we created.

Pretty sad commentary on the press corps, isn't it? There are plenty of examples of courage in Iraq every day, and the partisan liberal reporters and editors won't put it in their papers -- such a stark contrast to WWII, for instance.

My guess is he'll get the Navy Cross, simply for the fact that the incident only involved a few men. But, he could get the MOH.

PN is thata way!

RIP, he has more guts than I have.

My mistake, here is how my post should have read:

This guy was so amazingly brave! He is a true hero! He should win a Medal Of Honor! We need to hear more stories about heroes daily so we can be happy about occupying Iraq!

If you don't like it, go ahead and jump over to P&N. Look at it this way, he died to save the people he loved. What is so wrong with that?

Yeah...we definitely "created" the terrorists :disgust:.

This man lost his life so that you could walk outside everyday without worrying about a car bomb going off.

Why don't you go over there and sympathize with the insurgents.

Jackass.

The terrorists that are in iRaq now are there because of our initial intervention. Fact. Do you not see how one can think critically about a topic without participating directly in it? Have you not evolved from the "knee-jerk" reaction era yet?
