Name a Sci-Fi show on air today that's as good or better than Stargate SG-1

Ever since Stargate SG-1 concluded I haven't been following any Sci-Fi shows. I've been re-watching the entire Stargate SG-1 series from the start and so far I'm in the middle of season 7. What new shows out there that compares to the quality of SG-1? I'm thinking I should forgo anything new and start on watching the entire series of the newer The Outer Limits.

The thing about SG1 is that when it was good, it was REALLY good. 85% of the time it was really just meh. And I watched from the series premiere on Showtime (hooray for the bewbies!) til the series finale.

I can't tell you a single thing on as good. You're going to get lots of Continuum (which feels like a Stargate show, production-wise) and WH13 and some of the other shows. I'm going to tell you to forget that crap and watch the BBC series Sherlock. It's not scifi but I found it quite enjoyable. Then watch the bbc series hyperdrive. Then you'll be done with scifi.

Ps - at this point, you are intermixing Atlantis in to your SG1 viewing, right? Is the only PROPER way to watch it.

I haven't been watching Atlantis. Maybe getting all the DVDs and watching that will be the next step after SG-1. Haven't seen a single episode of Stargate Universe when it was on the air. Doubt I'd be interested in getting the DVDs for that.

Sherlock does seem interesting.

I was wondering about that. I watched the first few on Netflix and was like "WTF, I see Shrub!"

There's a couple of crossover episodes you might be a little 'huh.' on. Not confused really, but referencing things between Atlantis and SG1. Try Netflix that's a great way to get both.

BTW, Universe is fucking incredible. If you consider yourself a stargate fanat all, you shouldn't miss it.

There is a lack of sci-fi shows on TV right now. Continuum is ok. Revolution is so bad it's funny.

You'll have to settle for fantasy. Game of Thrones is great. Once Upon a Time is interesting.

Doctor Who... but bla bla bla, most of you think it sucks.

Other BBC shows are great too, just not hardcore sci-fi.

I did watch Atlantis here and there when it was new. The problem with Netflix is that they dropped Stargate SG-1 for some crazy unknown reason. Getting DVDs would also be preferable.

Stargate Universe seemed like a Tiny Toons version of Stargate. But I suppose if the new Star Trek movies can pull it off, then perhaps Stargate can.

They did? WTF?!

This thread had me thinking about a rewatch.

Edit: Theyve dropped SG1 and Atlantis, but still have Universe and the two SG1 movies. That's weird.

Edit 2: All available on Amazon Prime so I'm all set!

Atlantis isnt really as good but its close enough, if you liked SG1 you will like atlantis. Ive nearly finished watching SG1 in its entirety, still got the 2nd movie to go though.

If you've never watched Torchwood, you might try that. (BBC Show)

Personally I find Continuum utterly boring.

Every time I think of Doctor Who I think of the embarrassingly bad original series that I watched on PBS as a kid. If I could immediately identify just how bad it was when I was 7 or 8 years old, I can't imagine how bad I would think it is today.

I did see a little bit from a few episodes of the new series and just as I suspected it was lathered with a generous amount of British cheese. I don't think the British can do Sci-Fi correctly.

Dr Who today is really nothing like the Dr Who of when we were kids other than in premise. It takes itself much more seriously.

Another one for you to try is Farscape. Great show. (these are all old shows....there really is nothing currently on TV that is anything like Stargate).

I haven't seen anything as good as SG-1. I was never able to get into WH13 or Dr. Who, and to be honest, as soon as the Ori came into the picture for SG-1 and the spin-offs, I lost interest.

I have had success finding a couple random scifi series on Netflix though. There was a BBC one about refugees from Earth going to a distant planet, and only a couple of the colony ships made it, and there was a group of genetically modified humans who had been cast out who basically become the bad guys. There was also some interesting stuff on the planet, but I don't want to drop spoilers. Can't for the life of me remember what it was called, sound familiar to anyone else?

I also suggest Solaris (movie) if its still up on Netflix. It's not action, more philosophical? It was good regardless.

If I'm suggesting other shows:
Farscape
Battlestar Galactica
Outer Limits (old and new, neither are on Netflix afaik)

Its not space above and beyond is it?

The problem with BSG is that it starts out really good and then by the middle of the second season it's just... Bleh...

I see we share similar tastes. I also never really cared for the Ori story arc. The newer The Outer Limits is on the top of my list. Never really got into Battlestar Galactica and by the time people were saying the story was falling apart I really had no desire to return to it. Farscape does interest me though. That's another series I'll probably be getting the DVDs of.

Edit: I also really liked Solaris. It's a fantastic movie!

I did actually enjoy Atlantis as a a whole vs SG1. SG1 was probably on the air for a couple years too long.

Stop right now and go watch Universe. Give it 5 episodes.

Oh heck no! An average SG-1 episode is still a good episode to me. The bar is pretty high with SG-1.
