Name a better car for $84,060 then.......

I was at a friends over the weekend we were talking cars as usual, and I brought up the fact that I think you can't find a better car from the factory then a Nissan GT-R for the money.

Dollar for dollar can you buy a more powerful and beast of a car? I don't think you can stretch your dollar any farther than that.

I believe right now it is on the Top Gear leader board at #17.

Don't even say Ariel Atom because I can't drive that year round in Chicago!

Let's hear what you think! 🙂

GT-R definitely is a pretty wild vehicle. Dollar for dollar it's hard to quantify though. With the more recent software upgrades they seem to be holding up in terms of reliability, but parts/service are very expensive, so the car will likely cost a ton to maintain once out of warranty. They're not all that fuel efficient, and the tires are also specialized and very pricey. Overall I think a Z06 is a better dollar for dollar value in sheer performance, even if I do think the GT-R looks cooler/exotic. GT-R 0-60 is faster, but from a roll the Z06 will take the Godzilla down. On a track they're fairly close, but obviously it takes a far higher than average amount of skill to squeeze the Vette to the limit, whereas the GT-R is apparently like a big videogame, the computers and dynamic management takes care of everything.

The GT-R is a better car. As evidenced by the fact that an average Grandma can do well on a track in one.

Isn't that all people care about?

I hate to rain your parade, but your title should end with the word THAN. Not THEN.

I've never driven a GT-R so I wouldn't know. Dollar-for-dollar, my G8 would probably be better.

With that nice big plastic bumper cover! 😉 I really don't care for the look of the Vette.

I'd be buying it for the engine. 😛

GT-R, albeit impressive, just doesn't do it for me in the looks department.

I'd take a 69 Camaro SS over anyone of them though. Or a Plymouth Superbird. Or a Ruf CTR Yellowbird.

What car's bumper cover isn't plastic?

Not every car is so poorly made that when you lean against it the plastic bends in so much its ridiculous with no support. For the cost of the car it should be made a little bit better than that even if it is the cosmetics.

It's called aero and weight reduction. It's not there for structure. What, should it be filled with 200 lbs of solid resin or concrete?

Look how fragile a F1 car is when it falls apart when it hits something, same thing.

I don't know of any car made today that doesn't have a plastic bumper cover, that isn't held on by 2 pins, that doesn't fall off in the most minor collision.

I don't know about you but I don't go leaning against my car or sitting on the hood to see how sturdy it is...

Until you see a GT-R up close and in person... Damn, that car is HOT!!!!

I tend to agree though, technologically and performance wise, its pretty hard to beat.

I agree though about the fun factor. It's the same issue when the manual vs any gay automatic/flappy paddle/dsg garbage is brought up.. I don't care how fast it is, AT ALL. It's just not as fun as shifting and clutching.. PERIOD.

Thus I say the Corvette may be the winner.. I'd really love to drive each and report back 😀

I'm kind of tired of seeing GT-R's since they tend to deafen me with their exhausts.

If I had $75,000 to spend on a Nissan, honestly, I would be importing a R34 V-Spec instead.

Long live the straight 6!

If I were going to drop $70K on a car right now it would be a BMW 550i, V8, 6Spd manual.

The GT-R is a nice car, no doubt about it, just not my cup of tea.

That'd be a nice car, but I think you can literally get 2010 M5s with less than 10k miles for that price.

New yeah, I don't think $70k will get an M5.

^ Yea put a 550i next to a GT-R and it would like putting a Civic next to an M3.

That's the point. Different people have a different definition of "better".

For me, the quiet, comfortable V8 cruiser sedan is better. This is why choosing a "best" car is completely arbitrary.

Quiet comfortable V8 Cruiser - you are looking at 7 series, not 5 series. S-Class or LS...

The 5 series is quite a nice ride, just like the competitors in the range (A6, E-Class, etc). Just because it's not a boat doesn't mean it's not a good luxury car.

Let's look at the 550i.

Quiet? Check.

Comfortable? Check.

Designed for grand touring and long trips? Check.

V8? Check.

Are there other cars that do this also? Of course there are.

Boats are the most comfortable though. Mmmmm backseat of S-Class...

You can get two loaded camries and it'll be TWICE as good... I'm just saying.

But if you're talking about the back of a car, back of LS-460 > S-Class. If I'm gonna be in the back, might as well be in a boat.
