I guess you should specify that "stuff" does not include USB mice.

As far as notfred not getting X to work, when were you trying it? I've been using gentoo for over a year and I've never had X fail once. I've compiled it at least 2 dozen times on multiple machines.

And as far as gentoo being faster than other distributions because you compile your own binaries, thats mostly a myth. The only reason(that I've noticed) it feels faster is because it isnt loaded to the brim by default with unnessecary services and bloat, like rh, mandrake, suse, etc are.

Hey guys, when I´m typing, if I press the ´ key, it makes the next letter accented. To get a ´, I need to type ´ twice. For example, if I type ´a, it will show up as á. How do I disable that?

The 3rd Edition has been remaindered on Barnesandnoble.com for around $7 for the better part of the past year. The 4th Edition is a very recent release.

Anybody want to bother to help me set up a non-root user? I know you aren't supposed to run as root all the time, but I have no idea how to make myself a user account that balances power with safety correctly. =\

IIRC, as root:

adduser username
passwd username
*enter password*

run it.
put that user in the games, wheel and portage groups.

emerge grub works fine
then i run "grub" and it just dies on me, spits out an error message, and forces me to hit the reset button (the cursor keeps flashing, but no amount of keyboard input will do anything)
i took a picture of the error....

It's done this twice!!
