Did you seriously clip an EP4000? I run mine with a modded quiet fan (lower flow rate) at shake the house volumes with dual sealed 18s (bridged mono 4ohm - two 8ohm drivers in parallel) and it never even gets warm. I can't even imagine high efficiency ported 18s at substantially higher power levels.

How do you have them wired? Keep in mind the EP4000 will NOT do 2ohm bridged mono and is preferred not to run 8ohm stereo. 2ohm stereo or 4ohm bridged mono is the way to go.

FYI, the general consensus is the EP4000 clip limiter kills SQ and should be left off and protect though HPF and non-insane volumes.

they are wired up in 2ohm stereo, and yes i can clip it with ease.

i honestly am a noob about all of these settings and stuff and just have it wired up identically to how the prior owner had it wired, with the same amp as well.

Also, play the War of the Worlds and Flight of the Phoenix tracks on the Bass Demo Disc. It seriously feels like the house will be ripped apart.

for some reason the sound on certain clips turns off at certain points. but if i pause it then restart it the sound will come back on, but then it cuts off again in a little bit. pretty sure it's just because my media is like 2+ years old. or the ps3 just doesn't like the media. i burnt it at 4x which is pretty slow.

war of the worlds is one that gives me sound issues like this.

that terminator salvation is pretty insane though. that one doesn't give me any sound errors.

yea you need something that can put out like 2000w continuous or so to drive dual caps to the fullest

2ohm stereo should be fine. The EP2500 (EP4000 predecessor, apparently identical to EP4000) was tested to 820W RMS/channel 2ohm stereo @ 20Hz. Wired in series bridged mono (4ohm apparent) gives slightly higher output at 1975W RMS.

Are your gains set up correctly? Also, double check your DIP switches to make sure everything is set up right. I can see if it's accidentally configured to bridged mono and you're running a 2ohm driver (bridged mono only powers output 1) the amp would overheat and clip really fast.

I ask because the volume levels would have to be insane (to me) to clip that amp with dual caps. Like I said, I run a less efficient sealed system at extremely loud (to me) levels and the thing doesn't even get warm.

i know someone who got one and is running 8 18s from it. 4 dual opposed cabs

its is insane but in such a good way
Are those the Chase SS 18.2's? I have 2X SS 18.1 (essentially one 18.2) and the output is incredible in 5000 cu.ft. 4 of these would plausibly give an additional 12dB of output. Crazy.

so i adjusted some settings tonight and changed the dip switches on my amp to match what was suggested in the manual for 2 channel (same as i had it except turning the clip limiter on). i also changed the crossover and lfe settings and it's sounding great right now. i honestly probably wouldnt be able to tell the difference between just small changes to the settings now.

watched some scenes from dark knight again to compare. i actually toned down the bass a bit just so that it blended in more and sounded smooth rather than overpowering to the point where you notice that it's turned up louder than the rest. i think turning that clip limiter thing also helped smooth it out a bit.

i also watched some scenes from saving private ryan and 300 ... sounds ssssooooo good. i was going to watch some scenes from T2 but the wife came down and told me she was trying to sleep lol.

now i just gotta get my damn surrounds.

The opening scene at Normandy in Saving Private Ryan is great for showcasing everything about your sound setup; the subs, the surrounds, directional panning... It's all excellent. I just finished up my own surround setup and that scene is just absolutely stunning. And since your equipment is roughly 10 times as good as mine, it's going to blow your mind. Pixar films are surprisingly excellent as well, hitting some really deep bass extension and making use of a well-developed sound stage, and they have the benefit of a high WAF. So, you know, toss on Finding Nemo or Ratatouille; the wife will be happy and your subs will get a serious workout testing the structural integrity of the neighbors' foundation.

we actually watched finding nemo in 3d the past weekend but with my old speakers and receiver hooked up in stereo. i definitely do want to watch it again though when it's all said and done. i may be watching it this weekend when my brother comes over though.

on a serious note though, can too much bass realistically mess with the structural integrity of a house as far as foundation and what not of a house? i know that it can cause pipes and stuff to losen and wiggle, but can it really mess with the concrete foundation or studs/joists/beams that support everything? i swear i feel like i should be worried about that with the bass that this puts out lol.

unless your house was built in china and is held together with chewing gum you should be fine

haha no it wasn't, but that is just how powerful these subs are as you know. i really need to put on something loud and go out in my backyard and hear how it sounds to see if the people behind me can hear anything.

One of my favorites for bass is near the beginning of The Polar Express when the train is coming in.

the bass in the terminator salvation clip on the reference bass disc is pretty damn insane. as is flight of the phoenix.

If you can deal with the Shakey Cam the entire movie then Cloverfield is an incredible LFE workout. Another one that just has an great soundtrack the entire way is Tron Legacy.

I also get a kick out of the latest Rambo. The mortor scenes when the army is shelling the village about halfway through and again at the end when the rebels come in along with the midrange chest slam of close up pistol fire and the 50 cal sniper rifle being fired are brutal.

http://www.avsforum.com/t/1333462/the-new-master-list-of-bass-in-movies-with-frequency-charts

I will attest that I own 3/4 of the top 2 ranking and they are all legit bass movies purely for the their demo. Most of these are pretty cheap at amazon or bb or something now if your worried about price.

cool, nice list there!

i actually cannot wait to watch jurassic park on my setup. can't wait to watch the t-rex scene on there. think im going to wait until i get my surrounds though before i watch that movie.

I was mostly kidding about structural damage to the house. I'm pretty sure your eardrums and bodily functions will give out before the house does. Although, on Avsforum there is a guy whose tile floor cracked after an orbit shifter demo. At my house, there are pretty large windows in the listening area and a ceiling fan directly above me that rattle like crazy. The ceiling fan especially is a little disconcerting. May need to change that out.

Good to hear the clip limiter helped out, and seems like it may have even improved SQ, which is a surprise. It also provides a little piece of mind.

That's a nice PS3 stand. :)

Seriously though, the room looks nice. Well done.

yea, i'm actually going to put it inside the doors of that cabinet because it has no back to it. i just have it there for now but when i clean it all up down there for my new years party im gonna move it under there.

and thanks for the comment, it's been a long time coming! it's just ALMOST done.

i'm now actually doing research on what all i will need to use a tablet as my controller for everything. i plan on getting the roomie software and buying an ipad to put it on.

http://www.roomieremote.com/

i saw it in action before and it is pretty awesome. i also do need to buy a few converters, both a serial -> ip, and ir -> ip to get all of my equipment to actually work with it. pretty sure i just need 1 of each though. the serial is for my projector, and the ir -> ip is for everything else. i'm also going to need a bluetooth -> ir adapter for my ps3 to get that working.
