Merry Friggen Christmas, huh?
sheesh!
I am soooo sorry for you, and your wife... and especially those poor kids.
🙁

God, I'm so sorry.
TallBill-your wife's sister and her husband are your sister-in-law and brother-in-law. What else would you call him?
I've met my wife's husband's sister once. She is no relation to me whatsoever. I wouldn't refer to her as anything other then her first name.

Your wife's husband's sister would be related to you... she'd be your sister. 🙂

Given the circumstances you described, I think it would be better for everyone involved if you didn't take the kids into your home permanently.

Any guesses why he did it?
Maybe I should add that to the OP. They were on the verge of splitting up. He was being a big idiot and not wanting to change his crappy behavior. Basically, his pot-smoking started really screwing him up... he turned all paranoid that his wife was cheating on him, etc. When she'd finally had enough of his abuse and BS, she kicked him out.
He promised to change, weaseled in and a week or two later, shot her. He only shot himself to avoid arrest.

Well... the odds aren't that great that his other family will take good care of them. Foster care has an even lower chance..... the more I think of it, the more it's best for them to stay with us. We're a very loving home... I'm sure I can learn to love my nephews as much as my own son.... but I do hope they'll be better behaved than with their own parents. Parenting is tough enough with our only child almost two years old, but now I have to learn how to care for and discipline a 10 and 12 year old.
Not easy.

It's your responsibility to raise them properly then, get them out of their reckless redneck style while they're still young.

I may not like these kids much, but I DO know we're their best chance. If they go to his brother, they'll have the issue of daddy's brother being so much like him. A good and bad thing.
I can't abide them going to foster care when they can be with family. I wish it weren't so, but it is. If we're the best option, we'll have to do it. We'll all have to adjust somehow.
