Seriously? You really need someone to tell you what the differences between a luxury car and a Mustang are? Do you need someone to tell you the difference between a hot dog and steak too? Both are meat and will fill you up equally well. Why bother spending all the money on the steak? Oh yea, that's right, people only eat steak to try and impress other people who can't afford it...

Great, now compare their times around the Nurburgring which isn't known for it's perfectly manicured pavement and is a much more technical course for seperating the capables from the pretenders.

Um, yeah...when was the last time you raced anyone for more than a few seconds at a time let alone for 12+ miles through a German forest with no other traffic, a safety harness, and safety gear including helmet, fireproof racing overalls, gloves and boots?

My average speed on my way to work today was around 18mph. It would have been exactly the same in an M3 or a Kia or a Lamborghini Gallardo.

And I think the Mustang has proven itself on the race track in the last 5-6 years despite your ignorant ramblings.

Hey Jules, any cars can get leather seat nowadays.

BTW, the Lotus you love so much? Has a Toyota engine in it, so no V-TECH.

Let me guess, Mustang GT owners change out their oil at Jiffy Lube for $20? Change their brakes less often? 15K miles? Where the fcuk did you get your info from? Do people race these 15K miles car everyday?

Quit arguing semantics.

No shit? Really? I didn't know that...

I have cloth seats in my 7 year old Maxima and not a day goes by that I don't wish I had a BMW. God, I could really sweat the bitches in a 328i if I trade in my car and take out a loan...man, I'd be really cool on these forums then. :p

No, I think I know the differences. I just spelled them out for you. You stupid or something?

This is so true that its actually sad that people consider it. I would take a 2010 maxima any day over a 2010 328i.

That trek home for you would be the exact same 18mph in a Lotus as well. So why don't you stop masturbating to thoughts of it in every thread you post here? Since there is no difference between any car you can buy for your particular commute home, why don't we make everyone on the planet just drive a Prius so we can all be one with nature and save the planet?

Streets of Willow have LOTS of big sweepers, not much of a technical course.

Yeah. As good as the new Mustang GT is, I suspect it would run out of brakes on the Ring pretty quickly and the rear axle expose its limits just as quickly.

But even comparing Ring times or whatever doesn't matter because very few of us will ever run the Ring and post competitive times while doing so.

Put any one of us in a Pagani Zonda and race against Walter Röhrl around the Ring in a 1972 Dodge Dart and Walter will win every time.

Was that brake tapping on the Mustang or just sun reflection?

I'm really just messing with these spec/tech racers. ;) It's kind of fun to get them all riled up over two cars I really don't care that much about. :p

The Mustang GT is a great sport coupe, every bit as good as the M3 on the track but yeah, it really isn't about performance/price. It's about performance/prestige and while the Mustang is every bit as good as the M3 in the performance category it doesn't measure up in the prestige category.

I do kind of have a soft spot in my heart for Mustangs though...I've owned two of them. I've also owned two BMW 3 series (my wife's cars) and living with them on a daily basis the BMW's paled in comparison in every way quite frankly. They were more expensive to maintain, they needed more maintenance more often, they were slower, they weren't as much fun to drive, the stereos sucked, the electronics were dodgy, they were both automatics (which made them shit to begin with). About the only thing they had going for them were the stupid badges on the hood and trunk with the blue and white propellers...oh, and they had leather seats. My Mustangs didn't have leather seats...damn them. I feel all inadequate now. :p

Ill take mine in black please.

got stuck in traffic next to a guy in a new black 5.0. Looks really good in profile, but for some reason, the mustang looks sad to me head on, whereas the the Camaro looks angry (which I like). GM needs to get that new 5.5 v8 out asap.

Um, I never said anything at all about a Lotus or a Prius or nature...Not sure where you're going with this.

I think some people are completely missing the point.

The fact that a middling, not even hotted up Mustang (no Track Pack, not a Boss 302 or GT500) can even be compared to an M3 (which as you see in this thread and tons of other places is supposed to be godly) is absurd. You can make excuses ("no one cross-shops these", "luxury!", "the M3 is 3 years old already!!", etc), but you just look like idiots.

The worst part is, no one is saying the M3 isn't a great car, they're just saying how amazing it is that a Mustang is competing with it.

Lastly, if you want to get pissy about it, I can guarantee that with $25K you can make the Mustang more luxurious, more tech laden, and perform even better.

The mustang also has another 1000ccs on the M3, but the M3 has 26k on the mustang. I'm awaiting that gt500 vs cts-v showdown. Damn it's a good time to a gearhead.

I wish it was a good time to be a homeowner...or have a spouse who sells real estate for a living.

Or to be looking for a job.

Yeah, well...

The mustang is ugly!

In all seriousness, I could never imagine myself driving one and at the same time taking myself seriously, the styling is just lulz. (Of course, this is just a personal choice, it doesn't make the mustang any worse a car.)

I think what this really points to is how manufacturers are reaching the limits of practical power/weight ratios for sports cars. (excluding supercars, of course)

Five years ago, MPH magazine did a comparo of an 05 SRT-4 ACR $22,390 and an 05 M3 w/Comp package $52,995. The ACR was only ~1/10th of a second slower in the road course compared to the BMW. No one would choose the SRT-4 over the M3.

Dude, give it a rest; every thread you come in here with the same tired diatribe.

Here's something for you to consider - while the new Mustang maybe a much better handling cars than those previous generations; wait, yours belongs to the "previous" generation doesn't it? Some people could very well say "redneck", as you would fall perfectly into that category, according to common wisdom.

You realize it takes on average 2-3 generations for the regular Mustang GTs to offer Cobra levels of performance right? 12 second 1/4 mile stock and .90s g skidpad is 8 years old to me if you care about magazine numbers. And I don't need to remind you which one is light-years easier to modify for even more performance.

Some people buy a car for more than just stop light to stop light "racing". Your constant bagging of people that buy these types of cars makes you no better than they are. It makes you the exact opposite of them, with the same equal hatred level and ignorance.

I never bagged on the cars themselves, in fact numerous people on this board can recall that I have a fondness for the E46 M3. I just hate pompous bench racers who buy them as expensive status symbols thinking they ever better than everyone else's, when better means cutting them off at red lights and merges on the street 99 percent of the time. I never said a M3 is for drag racing, but if one challenges me to a drag race and I weld his doors shut with my mere "mustang", that's not my problem. He picked his own poison, and nobody has any room to bitch about "oh but a M3 isn't for drag racing" or "it shouldn't be compared to a mustang" because that's what the majority of people buy these cars for: status and trying to be better than everyone else. "Better than everyone else" in the real world when it comes pissing contests with cars in day to day life and spontaneous epeen contests on the street translates unanimously to out accelerating someone else in 999/1000 circumstances.

So lets sum up my previous post shall we:

You know how many people I run into who brag about their stock slow ass C6 or M3 all the time and the ONLY thing they *ever* talk about and absolutely won't shut up about is how it has 400 HP (flywheel lol) blah blah blah smoke everything blah blah blah blah. Oh no wait they had their mechanic install a K&N it's 450 HP now.

And then I come to these forums and people like you want to assure me that the people who buy them don't buy them to be faster than everyone else or don't care about straight line performance? Bullshit, all I'm saying.

Anyhow I didn't even bring up my car, not sure why you went there. I simply postulated that that majority of people who blindly purchase these kinds of cars just want to be better than everyone else in your average Maxima/Kia/Accord/Camry and out accelerate them in city driving, rendering arguments like "its more than a straight line car" completely moot. So the argument that people don't buy cars like a M3 for straight line speed is completely bogus, because drag racing and rubbing their BMW emblem in the face of some dude in a beater Buick on a city straight on the way to the office is all that 99 percent of M3s or any car over $40k will ever see, sadly. Unless I'm just not *aware* of any 160 mph hair pin left turns on my way to work...
