$280 each isnt that bad, then again i have no clue how expensive property is where you are moving. O'er here in Boston, MA, I have to pay 800$ per month for a POS basement apt. A normal apt is 1200$ per month per bedroom.

And... I dont think moving in with a friend and her boyfriend is the best thing only because you will have to deal with whenever there is a fight etc. The last thing you want is a person to move out because of a fight and then your monthly payment goes up...

EDIT: Damn thats a nice place...

Plus when they break up, you get screwed on the rent.

So true.

Just agree before about eventualities like that. Gentlemens agrement.
Then you are good to go.

yep. trust me we have discussed everything... and we will all be mature about whatever situation comes up 🙂

Right 😉
HEY EVERYONE PARTY AT CAITLION"S HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!😀

See above post. If the couple breaks up, he/she who stays in the house pays for both parties. You still only pay your share. Easy.

Maybe I've said it before in this thread: I WANT TO MOVE BACK TO TUCSON!!

omg. 300 bucks for that? it looks beautiful..... nyc is a completely different ballgame.

my god... (but i would seriously reconsider living there with your best friend and her bf, esp since you all are young).

Agreed, $280 is nothing in Seattle. Even with five or six guys in a single house, you're still looking at $400 per person.

It's all fun and games until someone leaves the toilet seat up. Then it's every man for himself. I will never move in with another woman again.

And to the OP...it depends on how much you make. The general rule is rent should be about 30% of your take-home pay. If you're making $900 a month in take-home cash, or about nine bucks an hour at 40 hours a week, you're good to go. Anything less and you risk being screwed.

yeah i make between 900-950.. im sure ill be able to afford, as will my friend and her boyfriend. its just a high price for tucson. but it is a LOT nicer than almost all of the houses we have looked at.

oh, and about hearing them... i DO have a bf of my own 🙂

i think you might have mentioned it 😛

our agreement right now is that if they do break up, he will move into my room and ill share a room with my friend. that way everyone still has a place to live, and nobody gets screwed with rent.

Edit: Posted before seeing your response. Sorry.

Also, I think a better ratio is 30% of gross or less (28%) of your net is better.

Have fun living with another couple. Most of the time, it sucks. I've had several friends live with a married/engaged/dating couple before. I don't believe any of them made it a year. Enjoy being the 3rd wheel.

Looks like a go except you should get it in writing that they are liable for the duration of the lease, even if one moves out (they still have to pay rent). I guess that also implies that you guys aren't going to be leaving for college or whatever (I would hope you're going to college while living at this place).

been there, done that, for about nine months. the couple i lived with were dating, then they got engaged, and finally we moved out at the end of the lease and they got married afterwards.

most of the time it's not too bad, but don't expect that everything will go smoothly and prepare for the worst. with my situation, i just knew the girl right before we moved in together, but the guy is one of my best friends and i've known him for about 7 years at the time, so that helped a lot.

any ideas which one your going to be going into? A couple of the locations are less than prime...I really like the ones at speedway and houghten though. Defaintely a great place to live at imho especially if you can get in at that price. Probobly not the best situation but a nice place is good to get into in Tucson.

Do you have to get your 'rents to cosign or whatever? My parents, and my flat-mates' parents had to cosign without any choice. Not sure why tho... Maybe cause we hadnt built up enough credit or something? Or is that just a MA thing?

Yeah, get an agreement in writing. Word of mouth doesnt mean much.

my best friend, her boyfriend, and i are moving out in about a month in a half. we have looked at a LOT of places, and have decided on this:

http://tucsonrentalhomes.com/casa_grande.htm

so far the only negative is the price - $845/month or ~$280/month each.
the positives are that pets are allowed (we have two medium sized puppies that may get larger), they don't have a problem with this being our first place and turning 18 RIGHT before we move in (meaning we have no credit history or references really), its a nice location, and a beautiful house that we all like.

so weve pretty much decided that were going with this one... i just wanted to get some outside opinions. do you think it seems worth the price?

🙂

$845!!!! You're bitching about $845?!?!

Try living in the Bay Area... then you'll have reason to complain

I love it how every time a thread like this starts, you New Yorkers/SoCalers never cease to amaze me with how much you bitch about you rent. STFU. It's getting old. You pay more rent because you probably make more money. I'm not sure if you're trying to brag or just being annoying whiny bitches, but it has nothing to do with the OP

Its not that simple. There is a premium on living in NYC or SoCal, simply because so many people want to live there, that is not entirely made up for in terms of higher wages. We make a bit more money, but pay WAY more rent.

And before the obvious question, yes I'm moving from NYC soon.

We're not trying to brag, we're just disgusted at how little some people pay for the rent, and yet still find a way to complain. I pay $475 for my share (out of 1850) of a 3 bedroom apt in queens, and thats the small room (8x10).

If you cant pay $280 a month in rent, you probably shouldnt be moving out at all.

Hehe, yeah. $845 is about right for a nice new 2 bed/2 bath house here. Maybe even a tad expensive.
