It got mediocre reviews. 54% at Rotten Tomatoes, which means "rotten".

I just remember in the theatre when I saw it, for the arena fight scene, only my bud and I were laughing. I dunno, but maybe the rest of the audience just didn't really get the joke, since it was referencing the original 1960s Star Trek, in a somewhat oblique way too.

Spoiler video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I5n28hpMFBE

Some said "The cable guy" almost wrecked Jim Carrey's career, I thought it was awesome," I learned the facts of life by WATCHING the facts of life!!"

No, The Cable Guy was destroyed when it came out. Everyone crapped on it relentlessly.
Well, a lot of the big critics hated it, but overall it got middling reviews.

My fellow audience members didn't seem to enjoy it though.

P.S. Janeane Garafalo was in that movie. Loved her in her very short scene.

Joe vs the Volcano
It was panned when it came out, yes. But I think it is a cult classic now? I liked it when I saw it in the theaters. The luggage thing was a homage to It's a Wonderful Life, I think.

I recall finding it pretty hard to watch. I guess the character Carrey was playing hit a little too close to some real kinds of people we've all probably met before.

I don't mind the new Star Wars. Just rewatched them recently. Definitely plenty of WTF moments, but the lightsaber fights are far better than the older movies.

The last light saber fight with Qui Gon, Obi Wan, and Darth Maul was awesome. Most of the rest of the movie blew.

And Yoda/Emperor in the third one.

I still say Dude Where's My Car is a funny movie with some originality.

its hilarious, i challenge anyone to watch dwmc and the hangover back to back and tell me hangover is funnier.

this is actually a good measure of a persons character, ask them which movie is better, if they say dwmc theyre cool, if they say the hangover theyre a stupid liar.

Here's the luggage salesmen, :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ljOj6GVcnQ
part of the movies charm is how well the cameo's were cast, Ossie Davis as the limo driver, LLoyd Bridges as Samuel Harvey Graynamore, Abe Vigoda as the chief Tobi, Robert Stack as Doctor Ellison. The scene where Hank's awakes in the middle of the night while floating on his beloved luggage to see the a huge moon rising out of the ocean was just fantastic,..http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H1EOnVSSJYs

I like this topic, but am not remembering titles I'd like to list.

One I'll mention is that sometimes people disagree with how great a movie I think Planet of the Apes was (the original).

Another I think was amazing is Amalie, though I can't get anyone who has even seen it.

Both those movies are highly acclaimed. Serious? You'll find The Fabulous Destiny of Amelie Poulain on many critics top 100 lists, including mine. The directors of that film are also no secret, since they also made Delicatessen and City of Lost Children, which you will also find on many top lists. About the only bad movie they've done is Alien Resurrection, and that wasn't bad because of them.

There's a whole cult of PotA people. You simply have to be kidding.

Edit: I see others here have taken you to task over this.

Do you live in rural Georgia?

Do you not talk to people other than on the internet?

Irreversible - This is one that definitely crosses a line with many people. The content of the film is uncomfortable to say the least, in fact I would say that the director's aim throughout the film is to make you very uncomfortable. This film has it all. Male nudity, homosexual themes, homosexual acts, homosexual aggression, transvestites, gay clubs, rape, drugs, realistic brutal violence, overt revenge, subtle revenge, non-linear timeline, spinning jagged camera and editing techniques that make you wonder why anyone got sick at Breaking the Waves, and the most beautiful girl in the world getting her face pounded into concrete.

This is a love it or hate it film with subject matter most Americans can't get past and therefore hate. It's the only fictional film I have dared someone to watch.

Death to Smoochie

I agree, it had me rolling

Watched this one with my wife. Very good movie.

One of those I can watch anytime its on.

3. No movie to date has captured the same suspense & creepiness that Mothman Prophecies did. Slashers don't make a scary movie. This thriller kept me up at night without showing a single drop of blood.

Alien Resurrection
Armageddon (I realize it wasn't a flop per-se, but most people bash it constantly).

The Getaway (1994). They had a free screening for us in college. I remember walking out saying it was the best movie I've seen in awhile, but everyone I was with said it was lame.

Magnolia - Tom Cruise is amazing in this.
Alexander - It's very watchable, some slow parts, but very entertaining.

yeah thin red line is awful. one of those movies i wish i never saw. whereas saving private ryan is one of the best movies ever!

They're both terrible, but Shaving Ryan's Privates was worse by far. Everything that happens after they get up the cliff sucks.

Like Silence of the Lambs, I have tried to like it, but it's unlikeable.

This is a first. I guess I assumed that, like everyone else at the time, that everything Jim Carrey did was pure comedy gold. I thought Cable Guy was terrific, and I assumed most people did.
