Uhh, since when has an Oscar-winning "Best Picture" movie been a movie "people dislike?" At the very least The Academy liked it.
Since most people I knew when it came out said it was a pointless, dull, braindead movie.

I personally think they were braindead to say that but many people did, and do.

a discussion at lunch today made me remember a new one...

the newer conan the barbarian movie.

everyone at lunch thought i was insane for liking it.

oh, and TMNT3 as well. it sucked as a kid but i watched it recently and it is actually pretty good. i think as a kid i was pissed about it because it didn't have shredder or any of the normal tmnt villians.

My date back to loving them as a kid, but i still watch them today, still enjoy them, and get stuck on the channel if I ever accidentally flip to one:

The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension
Flash Gordon
Real Genius

Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull - yeah, it wasn't as good as the original movies but I liked it enough, even if it was stupid at times. It gets compared to the Star Wars prequels but it's nowhere near as bad.

Casper - I loved this movie when I was a kid. Definitely doesn't hold up though. Nostalgia Critic did an episode on it.

The Room - widely seen as one of the worst movies ever, it's also in my top ten favourites.

Event Horizon has a soft spot for me, mainly because Sam Neill and Laurence Fishburne brought solid performances to a pretty silly film. Watching the infinitely superior 'Sunshine' with some similar themes is a better experience, but I still had fun with EH.

Interesting.. I really enjoyed EH as well, never heard of Sunshine will have to check it out.

I sorta thought Jersey Girl wasn't completely awful... I understand I'm in the complete minority here, even Kevin Smith admits it was a piece of shit.

Death to Smoochie was fucking awesome.

I like that movie too.

Dredd. Karl Urban was pretty good in it and the story delivered pretty much what was promised by the previews.

I like the fact that it showed a version of Judge Dredd's first mission with Judge Anderson. There was even an explanation for the slow-mo shots that was kind of cool.

While it could have used a better villain, it deserved to do better at the box office imho.

I think poor box office is different than people not liking it. The reviews are good, it just couldnt shake of the stink from the Stallone version. I dont think anyone I've talked to about it said they didnt like it. It was more "much better than I thought".

Most of the movies in the thread are either fairly well reviewed, beloved, or box office hits. Having some hater say they dont like a movie doesnt mean it most people didnt like it. I was expecting someone to like movies like Gigli, Catwoman, Batman and Robin, Brown Bunny, etc. I guess those movies are truly unlikeable.
