I like my bike but to be honest, I really prefer driving my car -- I don't have the same connection to my bike as I do my car. I can't really explain it...

Maybe it would be different if I was a really good rider and was scraping pegs through the corners, but on the other hand the downshift into, turbo whine accelerating out...damn I love driving...

the MR2? have you worked on it a lot more than your bike?

I like bikes, but the traffic around here is scary enough when you have a cage around you...

I love the free wind of a bike, but I wish harm on anyone who feels they need to exceed a certain decibel level to be cool

Just had this argument over at the V-Rod forums. A bunch of guys were saying that "loud pipes save lives". I said it was BS to justify having a loud bike. Seems they didn't want to hear that.

Bikes are unsafe, aka I'm a pussy.

Yep, I am one of the 4 people that admitted this. My dad has a honda? 900? and his wife has a little vespa. I was down for the 4th and my sister rode with my dad then tried the vespa. I *refused* to try the vespa. Give me metal around me please!

I had a bike like that a few years ago. Mine was a '79 Honda CB750 though...I kind of miss it from time to time even though it is archaic by today's standards.

Smart riding saves lives.

Loud pipes perpetuate negative stereotypes which encourage cagers to remain unsafe around motorcyclists out of spite.

Nice. I spent a long time looking after taking the MSF course and never ended up buying due mostly to low funds. I was also torn between buying a cruiser or, incidentally, an SV650. I decided to split the difference and get a UJM. Definitely the most bang for my buck and I could probably ride it all year and then sell it for what I paid.

I paid $1300 for it when I bought it and then sold it about a year and a half later for $1500. Granted I put about $1000 into it, new exhaust, rebuilt the carbs, valve adjustment, new clutch, went through the braking systems completely, cleaned up and replaced some damaged shiny bits, new tires and battery. Still, it was a fun bike to ride and fixing it up was also kind of fun...kind of wish I could have kept it but oh well.

The guy I sold it to painted it mat black and put these black rectangular mirrors on it...completely fucked up the look of the bike IMO but hey, it's his bike now.

The SV650 is so much better in every respect than that old Honda. Better chassis, better brakes, better power, substantially lighter weight. I'll always have a soft spot for old Honda motorcycles though. Wouldn't mind picking up one of the SOHC CB750s from the early to mid 70s. A friend of mine has a '74 CB750 Super Sport that is a blast to ride.

It was kind of fun having 2 bikes at the same time. :D

I put even less stock in the statement than I do in the loud pipes bs.

i would love to get a night rod someday, those things are bad ass

You probably mean a Night Rod Special, or VRSCDX in Harley parlance. The Night Rod is a VRSCD. You can get a used one pretty cheap right now, lots of people selling them because of the bad economy.

And yes, they are bad ass.

Couldn't live without my Duc or Kawasaki. They keep the weekday commute exciting and weekends eventful :)

a legend in your own mind eh?

Don't be a hater Jules. V-Rods are the coolest bikes made, and that makes the guy's that ride them cool. It's a burden at times, grown men bow as we drive by, young women throw themselves at us, young boy's run around wearing little tiny helmets and fringed leather jackets pretending to ride V-Rods. Some of them even continue doing this into adulthood. That's why they call us Harley fags.
