troll bait folks, way to let 'em reel you in. Each group/musician probably represents it's own axis of the major genres of rock. Any fan of music will consider one of these the greatest. I'm sure this poster agrees...

anyhoo:
Metallica
Oasis
Widespread Panic

meh, this thread is just a contest to see how fast we can all name every band, ever, in the history of bands.

some n00bs would just say "music is overrated" to get an e-fight going.

disturbed

all other emo bands

i dont think disturbed is groundbreaking, or even very innovative.
i will say that they do put on a great live show and sound very tight.

some of these other bands live .....
my god..

Yeah, I like Disturbed a lot. Seen them twice. Great show.

by the way; most underrated: frank zappa

its funny how some of you guys take offense when someone says one of your favorites is over-hyped. This entire thread is pretty stupid as everyone likes something different. The old guys dont like anything new and the younger guys dont like anything old. Who Cares!

I like Disturbed's music quite a bit...but that lead-singer is such...a....frickin....tool!

He tries WAY too hard.

this isn't a thread about liking and disliking bands. it's a discussion about bands that are overhyped and ones that are not.

Overhyped indicates too much credit for what they do, not that everything they mack is bad, or they have no talent. The Beetles are overhyped, so are most pop stars today (would be nice if they could actually sing), Nirvana was overhyped (had a great impact on music, but their music did not meet their status), DMB is way overhyped, I still think everything they do sounds the same, and Bach is overhyped, come on, can't we do something that is not piano or an opera?

For those who were going to respond on Bach, look up "Sarcasm".

Overhype is such a weird word to use for music.

I figured Radiohead would get alot of votes, which is kind of odd. There is next to nothing as far as label promotion for Radiohead. They get very little airplay. The hype they recieve is all from critics and fans, which would seem to be the sort of thing where hype "should" come from.

DIAF. 😀

I would say The Mars Volta. Early stuff was interesting, but now, just WTF.

There's a difference between overrated and overhyped. Take Metallica, for example. Everyone claims that they invented thrash metal, popularized metal, made metal uber, and such. No doubt that makes them overrated. However, overhyped would be if everyone kept saying "Dude, the next Metallica album is going to kick ass!" when, in fact, many people are anticipating them selling themselves out even lower.

I don't have the widest taste in music, so I'm going to say Megadeth. They haven't put out a solid full-length album since Rust in Peace yet every time before they release a new album, the fanboys cheer "Dave Mustaine > James Hetfield! Megadeth 4 lyfe!"

This thread was all nice and cozy sleeping on the server, then you had to go ahead and wake it up :| Nice work.

lmao @ Fritzo

How about the B-52's for being over-hyped. "Rock-Lobster"??! "Love Shack"??!

Are you kidding me? They are on of the greatest bands today! How can they be over-hyped? They are actually good!

And to whoever said Godsmack was over-hyped is also wrong IMO

Nickelback is definitely over-hyped

So is any other emo band out there (Yes I'm looking at YOU Panic At the Disco and AFI)
