How about the B-52's for being over-hyped. "Rock-Lobster"??! "Love Shack"??!

Lots of good songs on their first album, though.

interesting to see that no one seems to know what overhyped means. people are just listing bands they don't like.

how can coldplay, tool, or radiohead be overhyped? they've been around forever, sell millions upon millions of records, have loyal fans, and sell out shows everywhere they go.

overrated? maybe in your opinion, but overhyped is when a band doesn't live up to their billed potential. it's not the same.

some of these lists are a joke...

Don't just say a band is over hyped because you don't enjoy them.

What other criteria should someone use to consider a band overhyped.

are you serious?
that in and of itself tells me that this thread is entirely rubbish.
Over hyped would mean a band that is BIG and has no right to being big (ie: they don't have talent)... please note: there is a HUGE distinction between not liking a band and saying they have no talent. Example: I HATE Pink Floyd.... yet I can agree that they are very very talented.

GTFO of this thread with your rational thought. That said, I'm going to have to go with Hendrix, Dylan, Nirvana, Pink Floyd, Metallica, Sex Pistols, ...

I don't think it's possible to overhype the Beatles. No matter how much hype there is about them, they were still better than the hype. They are in my eyes without a doubt the best band ever.

Overhyped, I will say REM, U2, Radiohead I agree with. I also think just about any punk band, but that's probably because I don't like punk music but there seems to be alot of hype about them from everyone who does like it.

I used to think Led Zeppelin were an overrated band, but I've been listening to more of their stuff recently, and I really like them alot now. I still don't think that the guitar work was necessarily anything spectacular.
