They always are in these threads. Sometimes seriously, sometimes in jest.

You really think that?

In their case there was a reason why they became popular, when I think overhyped I
think a band that isnt that good but get huge success.

Radiohead peaked at The Bends and then began their self-indulgent downfall. OK Computer had some OK (haha) tracks, but it was largely pretentious and annoying.

the editors/magazines/websites that put Radiohead albums on their "best" lists also feature fergie on their covers, name Jack White one of the best guitarists of all time, and/or believe that The Cure is one of the most influential bands of all time. in other words, i don't trust a thing that they say.

LOL.. omg I am seriously LOLing right now... I honestly couldn't take the rest of your post seriously after you said Radiohead peaked at The Bends. I don't recall Time Magazine having Fergie on their cover or naming Jack White one of the best guitarists of all time, yet they include OK Computer and Kid A in their list of best albums of all time?

yup. Just, Iron Lung, and Street Spirit are some of Radioheads best songs.

Time magazine says that Radiohead has some of the best albums of all time? Good for Time. If you're reading Time magazine for music recommendations, do you also depend on Maxim for its political analyses and look at the Economist for all the hot chicks?

Radiohead is the first that comes to my mind imo.
guess that shows differences of opinions. i consider radiohead to be the greatest band currently and one of the top bands in modern music. i also consider myself a 'musicphile' who has seen more live shows than the average person.

...and this just reinforces radiohead's "over-hyped-ness".

liberal use of superlatives? check
arrogance? check

i go to a shitton of shows (possibly more than you), but does that give me perspective to name the "best" or "most important" band? nah... because there's no "greatest" band.
talk about making a fool of oneself. first of all i clearly stated "opinion" and "i consider" and second your response was much more arrogant than my post. i also never stated anyone or anything was "best" or "most important". your reply is nonsense.

How many bands should thank them for that? Nirvana was definitely an important band.

The problem here is your audience. There are too many hair-band/glam lovers here. They hate Nirvana because Nirvana helped to expose the state of rock music at the time for what it was: soulless fluff. Hair-bands had no substance and zero social awareness.

Nirvana was more of a gateway band that gave bands like Alice In Chains, Soundgarden, Nine Inch Nails, Stone Temple Pilots and Pearl Jam the attention that they deserved.

You do realize how many artists list the above under their Roots & Influences, right?

right and how many of those band have gone on to become overhyped bands themselves...

Oh come on...Ok..so granted I am kinda obsessed with Radiohead..hence my name KarmaPolice but they arnt that over hyped. I wouldnt even say they are over hyped at all..I would say the only thing that some people might isay s that they are overly dramatic and artistic at times. That being said you cannot deny that they are good..I am not saying that this really makes them the best but their albums are ranked in the top albums all of time on a regular basis.

Yes they have rabid fans
Yes the music doesnt fit anyone...
but over hyped..i dunno.

U2 on the other hand...Yeah they are overhyped lol.

This coming from a guy who's a REOSpeedwagon fan:roll:

BTW, when has Time Magazine been on the same level as Rolling Stone when it comes to music?

System of a Down by far, they're one of the worst, yet most popular, bands in recent history.

I used to love radiohead......but everything after OK computer feels like a shot in the dark. Kid A had its marvels....and I can understand why people would love it, but everything after that seems so self absorbed.

Haha, oh man. I hate the majority of nu-metal bands, but SOAD is great. You just have to "get" them. They're tongue-in-cheek anti-government, and the Armenian twist to their musical style adds flavor that makes them stand out from the mediocrity of their peers. It's not for everyone, but I definitely disagree with anyone who says they are overhyped.

sounds like something a magazine would say. sorry, but there are only so many YADWBBs (Yet Another Distressed White Boy Band) I can take. to name a few:

linkin park
staind
SOAD

they have a couple of good songs, but the rest sound the same and feature annoying screaming/yelling or whining.

I never said they were, but the person I was replying to was saying they didn't pay attention to Rolling Stone, so I named another magazine that named a few Radiohead albums on their Best lists.

BTW who said I was an REO Speedwagon fan? I haven't listened to them in years, I just like the name OREOSpeedwagon :p
