how did you arrange that? thought they don't let non-mormons in?

Nah, the guy that I work with goes to a church that lets non-mormons in -you just have to dress funny. Quaint little place, though. I must say that they spend a lot on facilities.
Ok Nik this makes perfect sense. Let me get this right.

You have been inside an lds temple, because you work with a guy that goes to "a church" (what is that supposed to mean) that lets non-mormons in, as long as you dress funny?

Seeing as how Mormons decided to re-write their own bible and toss the old one, I'd say it's definately NOT the purest of churches.

Saying "church" is a force of habbit. Sue me. Anyway, if you want to debate on your CHURCH's rules against his CHURCH's rules, you can call him up and talk to him yourself.

Brandon, a guy I work with, was described earlier in this thread as one of my best friends. He's who I talk about Mormonism with most often. Granted it's not all the time, but I really like talking with him about it. He and I have open minded conversations about theology. It's quite stimulating.

Are you sure it's a temple, and not the local stake house? (every neighborhood needs a good Stake house...I'll have the baked potato with mine please)

Yes, I am. You know nothing of the garments or their purpose.

While living in Utah, you'd see lots of example of the kids who had been "strained thru tht garments"...severe to moderate physical or mental handicaps...the lasy or wandering eye, cleft palates, or worse...probably from interbreeding for so many generations...Admit it or not, there is still a lot of remenants of polygamy floating around in predominantly Mormon areas...where so many are related to each other, and breed amongst themselves. One husband with 5-6 wives, each with the appropriate 6 or more kids, and they interbreed...like 1st cousins. Lots of living proof why this is bad...just go to a mall in Utah...and look around...

Actually, I HAVE been in an LDS temple. Multiple times, in fact. One of my best friends is a Mormon. Several family members are Mormons.

so was it your friend or your coworker or family member that "let you in"?

I probably posted as you were typing it out. Scroll up.

I have yet to set foot into a satanic church, though. That would be interesting.

I still don't know wtf you're talking about. What is his church? Is he a mormon? If so why are you saying my church and his church? It's the same church.

I find that hard to believe since all you do is attack and criticize. Maybe you would be able to have a conversation like that with me if your first words uttered after hearing the word Mormon isn't "twisted cult".

I dunno, people seem to be shocked or some other form of disbelief that a non-mormon has set foot into a mormon "place of worship" or whatever the hell name you want to spin. People seem to be raising a stink about it, like that means something anyway. Yay, I've been inside a mormon temple. Do my statements suddenly carry more or less credit or something? Anyway, I just figured since several had an obvious problem with the idea of a non-mormon inside a mormon temple that it must be against the mormon rules or something. I honestly don't know why it's so hard to believe, but if my guess is wrong, then fine, whatever. Why IS it so hard to believe?

I obviously don't care what you find hard to believe or not :p Doesn't change anything, really. Yeah, AT tends to get a little harsh, but you still get the general idea. Do you have a suggestion on a more politically correct way to phrase "twisted cult"?

Baited question with a well-prepared answer meant to confuse and distract from the truth. I've seen this set-up before. :p

Still at it, aye Nik?? Still offering to fix all our Mormon problems with no solutions? Your pure hatred always makes me laugh. Sure wish I could help you change your feelings, but I gave up on that a long time ago. But you do provide me with the motivation to keep talking to people about my church, and for that, I must thank you.

I don't hate mormons! For fvck's sake! I guess my emoticons didn't convey well enough that I was just TEASING. Do I need a giant sign saying "Just pushing your buttons for fun, don't take this post seriously" in place of each emoticon? I know it's hard to judge someone's tone over the internet, but for the love of Pete!! :frown:

<edit>

Nevermind, I guess I can't read. I thought you were quoting the post of mine right above yours. Anyway, much of this post is still my intended response. I don't hate mormons. What gives you that idea?

after a temple is finished being constructed, they give guided tours through them to the general public for about 2-3 weeks before it is "dedicated". They show you through everything a member of the church would ever see going through the temple.

ROFL!!!! Now that's the Nik I know and love! I think it was the post a month or so ago where you stated you had love for everyone but the Mormons, or something along those lines.

I know you don't like us, and that's all good. We can only hope that one day you'll change your mind. ;)

Almost, but not everything. They only show you the rooms, they don't show you what goes on inside the rooms. That's the important stuff. But aren't those things beautiful??

I love the temple.

Don't. Wanting to join an organized religion is like saying that you want to join a political party, only using spirituality as justification for doing so.

Do your own studies and educate yourself through prayer, fasting, and your own Bible studies. If you're going to check your beliefs against the beliefs of others, which you should, don't just talk about it with people of one specific denomination (ugh, denominations SUCK).

It's not much advice, but it's all I've ever been able to count on, personally.

Nah, the truth is that I don't really hate mormons. Hell I just love to flip people sh|t. I get it in return, and it's (usually) all in good spirits. It's fun. :) I don't remember what you're talking about (shows how important or meaningful the thread must have been to me, huh!) but I most likely only said it for the benefit of those being targetted at the time.

My way of thinking? Come on in, have a conversation, sling some mud, kick each other in the teeth, give everybody some beer, laugh about it all, and just have a good time. I like talks like these on AT where people sling mud and take cheap shots once in a while during a serious conversation. It breathes life into an otherwise almost-too-boring discussion. As long as people are all level-headed enough not to take sh|t seriously and just let it roll off their back while they sling some back, it's all good. It makes for more interesting reads. :D

Hey, better slinging mud than bricks. for you, and :cookie: for me.

I used to like talking that way, but I'm southern, so my tempter gets out of control too quickly if I'm not careful. Matter of fact, think I just had an argument with an LDS person about the priesthood earlier today. Sorry about that msparish, even though we don't agree.

I enjoy the conversations, but just always have to be careful not to get carried away. Being raised Southern and Southern Baptist doesn't help. :)

What? :)

Short version: Book of Mormon with all new stuff. Written to replace the bible everyone else uses.

It doesn't replace anything, it's just more scripture. The same way the catholics have their own version of the bible with certain books of scripture that other denominations don't consider as sacred. The catholics consider both the "bible" as other denominations consider sacred, plus a few additions of ancient scripture on top of that.

With mormons it's the same thing, they consider the bible sacred scripture (as long as it was translated correctly and not corrupted through man's perceptions) plus more scripture on top of that that happens to coincide perfectly in harmony with the bible (plugging in numerous holes the bible seems to have left out, thanks to constantines little council).

And by the way I challenge any of you to read the book or mormon and see what it really says. Read it for yourself and lets see if you actually find anything that you find so objectionable or against the bible.
