yep, pollenation is a bitch.
I'm talking full fledged BT varieties. This corn has been available for yrs and is being grown in a lot of areas. This is nothing new, not sure why it is coming to light now?
Here's the thing. BT corn requires use of less pesticides. Problem in the past is that the protein in the corn that kills the insects is in the silk. So as long as the corn is growing you don't have to spray it. In the past varieties, once the silk dries, the protein stops being produced and farmers have to start using spray again. I have heard new varieties have alleviated this problem... though haven't looked into it. In some areas in the southern US, they have HUGE worm problems. They will spray a corn crop 15+ times. GMO crops will eliminate a majority of this spray use.
My point is...GMO or increased pesticides.
