looks terribad as expected.

surprised to see Fox--I thought Bay banned her because she wouldn't let him fuck her?

They need to do a real TMNT, like the original stories where the turtles were murderous sociopaths.

I don't see what the problem is - I think it looks awesome. It's in the same vein as all the other superhero movies as of late, but I know it's also really cool to hate on Michael Bay so maybe it's that.

Has nothing to do with being "cool"

Has everything to do with being legitimate.

Yes, if you go see a Michael Bay film expecting a deep story, then you'll be disappointed. If you just want mindless (albeit entertaining action), he does just fine. There's a place for that. I usually gravitate toward deep/heavy stories, but sometimes I just want stupid humor and explosions. Avengers, Transformers, Dark Knight, Iron Man - it's all just different coats of paint on the same formula, and I find them all entertaining.

From the start of that trailer, it's clear that Bay thinks he's doing to Ninja Turtles what Nolan did to Batman.

Ugh...

I don't think the Turtles look bad, but it is odd that they got rid of Splinter and turned Shredder into a scrawny white businessman. With the removal of Splinter, Shredder doesn't really need to be Japanese, but that guy doesn't look like he'd be tough for those huge, bulky Turtles to beat. Unless they're going to make him more like Silver Samurai from the X-Men (or really the Wolverine movie) and have the suit be cybernetic.

EDIT:

Cowabunga, dude! You should order some New-York-style pizza and watch the first movie! The second movie is okay until you meet Razor and Lockjaw. You even get Kino, the Short Round of the movie ... except not as annoying! The third is in feudal Japan!
..."third?" There is no third TMNT. Only 1, 2, and 4. :hmm:

"Ruining" a cheesy 80's cartoon about anthropomorphic turtles? Impossible. (Yes I watched it.)
As nostalgic as I can be at times, these were not pieces of art.

Oh come on. It was a lot more than a cartoon.

- Comics (it was a comic before it was anything else)
- Video games (most based more on the comics than the show)
- Movie (not really based on the show at all)
- Action figures

Of course, other merchandise too; but that's the main stuff.

Changing them from "mutants" to "aliens" as he originally intended (before the outrage) would have ruined it. The guy is a fucking idiot.

I need to go back and watch the original tmnt. I remember enjoying it when I was younger. I have went back and watched some movies I enjoyed as a youth and they didn't hold up at all.

Probably shouldn't watch them then

Actually I saw some of the 2nd one when it was on TV recently and it wasn't too bad. I just didn't realize the "go green" and anti-corporate feel it had when I was a kid.

The 3rd one definitely was god awful though

TMNT were ruined the moment the first live action movie was released. This can only make things better.

agreed.

anyone who grew up reading the old black and white comics knows this.

ugh. the 80's stupid cartoon was not the orginal. Hell the color comics aren't either (btw the archie ones are what the cartoon and movies were based off of).

back before all that shit was a great comic in black and white. There was tons of violence and bloodshed. It was great.

Ok, you convinced me; just bought Blu-ray of the first movie. :D

Edit: weird, the 2nd and 3rd movies are $4 a piece more. :hmm:

Totally tubular! Although, they do have a triple pack of the first three live action movies, which might be cheaper than buying them apart. It's $20 right now on Amazon (US). Even though some people don't like all the movies, I couldn't resist it since I only paid $10 for it!

it seems like they wanted to humanize the faces more but took it too far, and it just doesn't look right

Well what exactly does a fucking MUTANT NINJA TURTLE look like? Fuck me, I need to quit reading people's useless drivel over a TMNT movie, it's irritating as fuck. It's a movie for crying out loud!

I just have to ask this question. is this movie for today's children? Or is it for today's adults that were kids when the Turtles were a cartoon? Last I checked and I'm not the best source for this but do children even know the turtles? Are their turtles cartoons that still play on TV?

My son is obsessed with the TMNT. They have a reboot on Nickelodeon that is actually quite good.

People are aware of the version of TMNT before the cartoon, but I doubt anyone would say this movie is based in any way on the original comics instead of the 80's cartoon. An ultra violent TMNT wouldn't be a ticket seller.
No matter what the original comics are about, this is 100% based on nostalgia and the cartoon, just as the Transformers were and all the other remakes of 80's movies and TV shows.

Yup, as long as they don't go the Super Mario Bros movie route and TOTALLY change things. The weird little headed men, the actual dinosaur Yoshi, Koopa being a (somewhat) normal man, etc. That was just ridiculous. Miyamoto said it was bad because it was too similar to the game. Uhh...no. It was bad because nobody enjoyed working on it, it was a bad idea to begin with and SMB has almost zero story behind it. So glad Ramis declined to do it!

Nah I looked at that, but it ends up being over $10 more up here!
