If you are going to move to our country, learn our damn language.

It's not our damn language-- we don't have an official language.

I don't know why I came into this thread-- they always make me disgusted with people. For school, I'm doing work at an after school program at an elementary school here, where they have a large Latino population. The kids are in bilingual education, focusing mostly on Spanish, with English added in, until they get to a certain level of comprehension and can join their English-speaking classmates. They don't see speaking Spanish as a deficit, but rather want to improve the students' Spanish while introducing them to English at the same time.

Adults coming to the US from Spanish speaking countries don't have the luxury of being transitioned into using English like that, and it's much more difficult for adults to learn a new language in the first place.

I really don't see what the problem is with people speaking another language. I liked a previous suggestion I read of having two national languages.
Whether English is "official" in the books or not I don't care. It should be official. It's unofficially official IMO. Every country needs a language that everyone speaks. Here it's English. If someone also knows additional languages, then whatever. But all the signs, media, etc. should be in one language only. No reason not to be. A country where people speak several different languages, but none of those languages everyone speaks, just causes all kinds of problems. And I don't want to be forced to learn another language. If I moved to another country, I would expect to.

Can't believe you guys are arguing over language...........it's a cultural lesson for ALL of us. Be happy that we get to experience different cultures. Unless they are the minorities who want to be in gangs, sell drugs, shoot and threaten all the time then it's kool with me.

Living in Stockton, I have more to worry about then the hassle of trying to tell my mexican coworker stuff using body language.

You do know that other countries have signs with english on them too right.
Speaking of gangs, drugs, and violence, seems a majority of the crime reports I see in my local news here now are latino. So how can they be helping out our country's economy so much, as some say?
Just this morning, they showed this (or video here) and most of what they showed were mexicans. It's something similar every week.

Also, why is it that if anyone asks any sort of even a slight hint at a software pirating question on AT, the lashing, name calling, and BAN chants come pouring in, yet many of you don't seem to care that many of these mexicans broke our law by coming here? No matter how good of a reason they have, or what kind of good any might be doing, fact is, many broke the law.

I agree 100% I should have bolded your entire post b/c is is dead on with what I've been trying to say.

Adopting two official languages just makes it THAT much easier for Spanish-only speaking immigrants to become complacent in a country where English is the dominant language for all major transactions.

Seriously dude it's not just Mexicans. I've driven through many communities and signs that were only in Chinese or Taiwanese or whatever. There is certainly a strong baised against Mexicans here on ATOT, and I find it disgusting.

Because there are a lot more channels/media/practically everything geared to them opposed to those other communities... I don't want to fscking have to press 1 for english nor do I need to hear english THEN spanish spoken after every fscking sentence on TV etc.. They need to learn OUR language...

LOL do you not see the racism in your own statement?

'course I do. I was just trying to use racial derogation towards whites to the same extent that folks in this thread did so towards mexicans. I'm willing to bet many whites aren't used to it.
